Upcoming changes to the WoW Insider Show

So, to that end, we're doing a few things differently.
- Recorded intros and teasers for the show.
- Technology for the show's backend
- Provide detailed notes, along with a "here's what you're missing" clip, for each show, so you can decide at a glance whether this particular week will be up your alley.
However, one thing that will be changing is the live format. Because of the increased emphasis on production, we've made the decision not to record live each Saturday on Ustream. The podcast team, or rather the significant others of the podcast team, also found the middle-of-the-weekend broadcast schedule problematic, and our couches aren't very comfortable. So, instead, every Monday morning we'll deliver a fresh podcast for you to listen to via download, streaming audio, or iTunes. We know this affects a large number of you who listen to the show each week in the chat channel, and hopefully you'll be pleased with the other changes.
If you have further feedback for the show, please feel free to email theshow@wow.com or get in touch with me personally at sacco@wow.com and we can have a discussion.

I'll miss the live chat, and the pre- and post-shows, and hearing the rare bits that didn't make the show. I won't miss going a little out of my way to clear out a bit of my Saturday afternoons, if i had the chance, to stop and listen, or the ::AHEM:: highly annoying, trollsome musical choices played before and sometimes after the show. ;P

Pros: More polished show
Ability to Edit
Better end product
Cons: People in the chat channel do not get their names mentioned
Pros win.

Occasionally people in the chat channel did have something constructive to add to the conversation, but I agree that in most episodes having their ridiculous names called out on-air was their only contribution.
RetPallyJil Mar 23rd 2010 5:13PM
I'd rather have the rough edges of real people jabbering on about something they love to do, not a carefully-worded and perfectly-edited presentation.
Cataca Mar 23rd 2010 5:55PM
Agreed
I'm all for improvements but I will miss the live recordings. I liked the feeling of carrying on a conversation with friends about stuff we could geek out about.
I just hope it doesn't become a WoW version of the BBC world news....
And if it still isn't posted on the due day, Elizabeth Harper should be making a few heads roll.

never listened live, so i don't care. But a more polished show is always nice.
WHat it doesn't need is a bunch of annoying music or really random guests like nerdcore rappers or something.
Stay on topic!

And with that, the effective size of enter keys everywhere was reduced, albeit marginally. =)
I shall miss the witty and sometimes perplexing banter in the chat channel, and also its ability to provide reasoning for that stifled laugh mid-show.
Chris Mar 23rd 2010 5:25PM
Sounds good.
Got to be honest...after the departures at the end of 2009, the show went for 5 stars down to 3.
Hope this marks a turnaround.
best wishes.
Jay Mar 23rd 2010 5:49PM
Indeed; I tried listening after "the departures"; couldn't make it past 2 episodes. I'll give it another try though.

I agree, after schramm & turpster left (IMO) the show feels like it's lost it's touch, the hosts sound pressured to keep the show what it was, and sound bored doing the show Don't get me wrong I still like the show and hope these changes push the show back up.
Best of luck can't wait for the next show!

I've actually enjoyed the show more since the change of hosts. Granted, I hadn't started listening very long before the switch happened, so I hadn't really built up a fondness for Mike Schramm and Turpster, but it seems like Michael Sacco and Rossi keep it more on track. I feel like I'm getting more out of the show than I used to—it's not just a lot of banter (which is entertaining, but not very fulfilling when I'd rather hear news). Anyway, I think the changes all sound good. I'm glad they'll be putting more effort into making it glitch-free and polished.
Jenessa Mar 23rd 2010 5:45PM
I am really really sad over the loss of the live stream to me the show will never be the same ever again. One setp closer to shutting out the audience, up next comments on entries gone!
Okay maybe not that extreme.
prenden2 Mar 23rd 2010 6:10PM
I'm trying to figure out whether this new streamlined version will result in more or less Lady GaGa.
Adam Holisky Mar 23rd 2010 6:22PM
More.
Jenessa Mar 23rd 2010 6:41PM
I will hold you to your word Adam.

I stated that the show died when Mike and Turpster left. I still feel that way. But now we are finally having the funeral.
RIP wowinsider show, You'll be missed.
Sky Mar 23rd 2010 6:38PM
I hate to say it but Mike and Turpster werent that good. Mike didn't really know much about the game but he is the one talking about 80% of the time. He obviously didn't like WoW all that much considering that he jumped ship when offered a bigger paycheck by Joystiq. Turpster knows a lot about the game and provides some comedic effect for the show but his jokes were getting old.
Aside from the technical issues (Sacco's internet connection was rough in the first 5 or so episodes), Im really liking the new show. These people really know what they are talking about (except for the nerdcore rapper... she annoyed the you know what out of me). Anyways, kudos to Sacco and Rossi for keeping the show relevant and fun to listen to. Dont listen to the haters.
Lemons Mar 24th 2010 4:36AM
Mike may have been somewhat of a noob...but that's okay. He was the host...he directed the flow of conversation and he was good at that. Most of the time the hardcores (usually columnists) would come on the show and have their say, you'd get a joke from the T, Mike would say something noobish and in the end it was a very balanced. Comedy, casual, and hardcore all in one show.
But now you got Rossi and Sacco. They sound like...two guys who play wow. They're moderately funny. Moderately knowledgeable (I haven't heard anything I don't already know). It's middling.
Now I'm not going to pull an NBC and throw em out before they've had a chance to prove themselves, but for now I have not been very impressed by the new WoWI show.
frosstbyte Mar 23rd 2010 6:29PM
I really think this is all for the best. The technical difficulties/horrible sound/lack of production value worked for Mike and Turpster's style, because they aren't serious players and they weren't running a particularly serious show. The whole thing was kind of a joke. It was an entertaining joke, and I enjoyed listening to it, but it was definitely fluff. (I'm not saying it was bad. Lots of good things are fluff. I'm just being descriptive.)
When you and Rossi showed up as guests, though, I knew I could count on a more in depth discussion of the game, encounter mechanics and the state of things. You two are more critical and analytical players, and I think your show will benefit from a format that doesn't try to imitate the almost absurd degree to which Mike Schramm failed to keep the old show to any real format. Instead, I look forward to a sharper, more focused show that gives some real looks at the game's current state and its future.
I applaud the changes and can't wait to hear how they go. Good luck.

The chat channel died the day Mike stopped asking us how it was going
