Cataclysm earthquake mobs "visible" in Stormwind

Today, WoW.com can report that these mobs are again visible in Stormwind on some servers. We've verified that when you view nameplates on mobs (by pressing the V key) and look up around the Stormwind bank, you can see the [DND] Shaker mob, as pictured above. The Shaker mobs are also present in the trade district. When you are able to view the nameplates, you can't view the actual mob itself -- they are invisible / have no form.
We're not sure how they work. We think they appear at random intervals, as sometimes we can see them and other times we can't. We also are guessing that they might only be able to be seen on some specific servers -- we know they're on Sisters of Elune and Ner'zhul.
However it's important to make very clear that other than their appearance and function, we don't know for sure how they appear.
We're interested in what others are seeing, on what servers, and under what conditions the mobs are seen. So far our staff has only been able to verify that these mobs are present in Stormwind, however we wouldn't be surprised if they're just intermittently visible in other cities.
We know that in Cataclysm Deathwing is going to come back and destroy a lot of old world Azeroth. Entire cities can change, and lands will be torn asunder. These earthquakes appear to be part of the lead up to the event, with Deathwing's return causing the very land to shake in fear.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it. Nothing will be the same. In WoW.com's Guide to Cataclysm you can find out everything you need to know about WoW's third expansion. From Goblins and Worgens to Mastery and Guild changes, it's all there for your cataclysmic enjoyment.Filed under: News items, Cataclysm

I'm pretty curious about what they're going to do for the pre-expansion event. I hope it's as cool as the Pre-Wrath event. Zombie invasion was awesome.

Zombie Invasion was awesome...
However it seemed like it happened ages before Wrath actually hit. Maybe that's because
so many players got their proverbial panties in a twist about it.
Hopefully Blizz has learned from History

@Cetha
They should still bring it back anyway, probably the most fun I've ever had in game. Watching a huge blob of ghouls rip people apart in Shat was the best, and organizing "zombie raids" was even more fun. Blowing up the AH, causing chaos and confusion, probably the best implemented event Blizzard's ever put in-game.
But the e-thugs and 12 year olds wanted to raid content that was at the verge of being obsolete, and PvPtards wanted to MAX HONAR, MAX BADGEZ, MAX GEAHR, MAX EVURYTING, so it was prematurely ended.
Haters gonna hate.
I'd like to see Worgen in major Alliance cities in the pre-Cat patch, that'd be awesome. The random earthquakes are a pretty neat preview of things to come though :)

The event was super awesome, as were the bugs allowing us to kil NPC's as zombies.
Though waiting several hours for the BG NPC's to respawn sucked!
SamLowry Mar 24th 2010 11:45PM
So, more griefing by "the e-thugs and 12 year olds" is exactly what we need more of, eh?
I hated the zombie invasion for exactly the same reasons the griefers loved it--AH & gryphons unusable, unavoidable attacks resulting in truly awesome repair bills, and just general jerkiness.

@SamLowry
Yeah because a real zombie invasion is supposed to be fair and stuff. It was a tiny event that wasn't going to last more than 2 weeks max and you cried about it. OH NO MY PRECIOUS GAME HATH BEEN DISRUPTED.

When Wrath was about to hit, I decided to devote myself to...zombie hunting. I was Alliance (I know...forgive me...) and had begun to make a name for myself there. Any zombie that came within a stone's throw of Stormwind? They were taken out by my bow, or my beast's jaws, or a combination of the two...and soon I was starting to make a name for myself in...other circles as well.
One day (in fact, literally ONE day before Wrath dropped) while in Eastvale Logging Camp, I was accosted by a zombie attacking Sara Timberlain. Unfortunately, before I could dispatch said zombie, he had already killed poor Sara.
I was incensed!
My arrows flew from my bow like a flock of seagulls for Iran (obsure joke...budum chssh!) and soon, I found myself quickly outnumbered. Zombie after zombie had pressed in upon me, forcing me back into the logging mill until there was nowhere for me to escape. My pet already dead, I had nothing left but my sword and my determination, but in the end even this was not enough...
I fell before the zombie horde and arose as one of their numbers.
"Hello..." one of them proffered.
"Brains?" I feebly responded.
"Indeed," he replied.
"BRAINS!!!"
And the rest, as they say, is history.

Because when people think "LAWL! I GRIEF FOR HOWERS! IT THEIR FAULT FOR BEAN LEVEL 8 OAR NOT HAVING FLYENG MOUNT IN SHAATRATH!" clearly they aren't e-thugs, or 12.
Gothia Mar 25th 2010 7:40AM
This was a well planned event that was turned asunder by abuses from the Player base. I especially disliked the constant disruption of services namely the auction house, banks and taxi services.
Like with anything the Zombie event should of had limitations so that vital services and low level starting zones would not be disturbed. Unfortunately, those safeguards were not in place by Blizzard and an immature player base ruined the event for all concerned.
I did not enjoy the Zombie event because of the players taking advantage and griefing low levels and NPC's. The zombie event did not fail because of poor content, it failed because of YOU.
JAREDO Mar 25th 2010 7:59AM
Well the Ruby Sanctum seems to be where we learn of Deathwing's impending escape, so I imagine everyone can relax until 3.3.5.
It could happen earlier I guess, but you'd figure Deathwing wouldn't bother trying breaking out until after the event or else he'd stick Xerestraza in a tree himself.
IslandDJ Mar 25th 2010 8:11AM
jc said: "Yeah because a real zombie invasion is supposed to be fair and stuff."
I'm sorry, did you just say "real zombie invasion"? WoW is a game, something most of us enjoy as an escape. World events add flavor, but when the game is essentially unplayable it goes too far. And when a game mechanic gives morons the ability to ruin it for the rest of us, that's unacceptable.
Sir Broose Mar 25th 2010 8:55AM
As a player with multiple 80s who has seen most of the content in WoW, and had the opportunity to raid and quest and gain achievements and do dailies until I'm kind of tired of that stuff, another zombie invasion type event sounds kind of fun.
-->BUT, I was new to WoW and only level 20ish when the wrath pre-event stuff started, and I almost didn't survive as a player. That was the most miserable time, and I was suddenly feeling some pretty heavy buyer's remorse for the 3 months I had just pre-paid. When that was going on, this game sucked for me and other low-level players. There was no way to play - at all. And we didn't have the frame of reference to know what was going on, or why. There was absolutely nothing fun about it. It was like griefers suddenly had a license to do their best to make it impossible to play. You know how some people get, when hidden by the anonymity of the internet. Look at the way people talk on the forums or trade-chat. We aren't all like that, but too many are, and they, unfortunately, take advantage of that in these situations, which could, otherwise, be fun. In effect, I paid for 2 or 3 weeks of playtime when I was unable to play, at a time when I was not experience enough to know that it wouldn't always be like that.
Now, I am looking forward to a change of pace, which is what I heard so many other experienced players say at the time. But I think some protection for low-level toons needs to be in place if something like that happens again, or, at the very least, an explanation to new players of what is going on and why and that it won't last long. You may have thought that was obvious, but to me, at that time, it was not.

The biggest issue with the Zombie invasion, its something that we all know, the thing that people point to when words like "failure" and "let down" are mentioned---Orphan Immunity.
I spent 30 minutes getting infected and getting into Org while avoiding the cures, and dodging other zombies as I made my way to my Orphan feast. My reanimated jowels almost hurt in anticipation.
Then my living life was ticking away while my un life was about to take over...THE ORPHANS COULD'T BE EATEN!
Thomas Prescott Mar 25th 2010 11:52AM
People who QQ about the zombie event fail to understand its purpose. It was supposed to disrupt norrmal play to make an impact. Bizzard isn't retarded, if they didn't want lowbie zones, AHs, Banks, Flight Paths, etc to be disrupted they could have easily done so. They intentionally left everything vulnerable to the zombie invasion to make an impact in the game world. This kinda like how, in the TBC event, a clone of Lord Kazzak tore apart cities, it makes the world event epic.
Blizzard learned that to make world events truly fun, you've gotta bite the bullet and disrupt the normal flow of game-play. If Blizzard gives someone a pony, someone else will complain that it shits too much, etc. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy what is given to you.
oowxam Mar 25th 2010 4:41PM
I was lv30 when the zombie invasion hit, and I had happened to be in Tarren Mill when someone started mentioning it. Obviously, I went to the Undercity to find out more. After hearing some people mention booty bay, I went there as soon as I could. I found the box.
The next week was heaven for me.
I tried to spread the plague as far as possible, going all the way to Thunder Bluff as a zombie, infecting things along the way. I may not have been 70, but I still had tons of fun, and didn't care about NPCs dying. I purposely exploded in the AH. I enjoyed turning guards against each other.
The Zombie Invasion was meant to disrupt the common game for EVERYONE, so it could not go unnoticed. Unlike events where you HAD to be max level to do anything, the invasion incorporated everyone in it, and caused the most fun i've ever had in WoW.
I had hoped that perhaps some sort of item could have a 1% drop off the LK, and 5 could be put together to make zombies or something, yet that would be waaaay too much work >_

kinda like how when ZA came out and the houses were set on fire, the logs reported that burning man turned on or something like that.
raspybunk Mar 24th 2010 8:49PM
I'm not nearly as concerned now that I know the shakers are only level 60. They must have leveled with recruit a friend and given up till they have the tokens for some BOAs.
I can't wait till some more of the schenanigans start up for the event.
