Cataclysm earthquake mobs "visible" in Stormwind

Today, WoW.com can report that these mobs are again visible in Stormwind on some servers. We've verified that when you view nameplates on mobs (by pressing the V key) and look up around the Stormwind bank, you can see the [DND] Shaker mob, as pictured above. The Shaker mobs are also present in the trade district. When you are able to view the nameplates, you can't view the actual mob itself -- they are invisible / have no form.
We're not sure how they work. We think they appear at random intervals, as sometimes we can see them and other times we can't. We also are guessing that they might only be able to be seen on some specific servers -- we know they're on Sisters of Elune and Ner'zhul.
However it's important to make very clear that other than their appearance and function, we don't know for sure how they appear.
We're interested in what others are seeing, on what servers, and under what conditions the mobs are seen. So far our staff has only been able to verify that these mobs are present in Stormwind, however we wouldn't be surprised if they're just intermittently visible in other cities.
We know that in Cataclysm Deathwing is going to come back and destroy a lot of old world Azeroth. Entire cities can change, and lands will be torn asunder. These earthquakes appear to be part of the lead up to the event, with Deathwing's return causing the very land to shake in fear.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it. Nothing will be the same. In WoW.com's Guide to Cataclysm you can find out everything you need to know about WoW's third expansion. From Goblins and Worgens to Mastery and Guild changes, it's all there for your cataclysmic enjoyment.Filed under: News items, Cataclysm

While I haven't been able to see them, I can't stand in the Exodar for longer than 2 minutes at a time without my screen shaking repeatedly. Perhaps because it's under ground and closer to Death Wing?
raspybunk Mar 24th 2010 11:36PM
Presumably deathwing isn't in the center of the world, he will be springing out of the earth above stormwind in that unused area, which will become the way to get to the new area of his in cataclysm. So stormwind or IF should be the closest cities to where he currently is. Also, the closest we can possibly get to where he curently "is" should be somewhere along the run of the deeprun tram from stormwind to ironforge.
There may even be an excuse for the water seen during the trip of the deeprun tram, as there are underground lakes in the new cataclysm area's early graphics. Though I can guess the area is suposed to be deeper than the construction people dug, at least it points out that there are underground lakes in the area. I'm kinda hoping the tram gets messed up a bit. Originally the journey of the tram could have gone underwater but the location of it's trip was changed once they had troubles with the way the aeas layed over one another and the travel.

Oddly enough, I was reading this article to my family and my son calls out from his computers that found them.

Fair enough, "Garrosh". I easily get confused with names. Doesn't change what I said though.
Gizzmo Mar 25th 2010 2:07AM
is there any news on these things showing up in other cities other then just stormwind?
Hiwa Mar 25th 2010 2:23AM
Oh lord not the 'zombie invasion' fight again. Look, the two sides are never going to agree. Can you just give it a rest?
Hiwa Mar 25th 2010 2:24AM
Sorry was meant to be in reply to earlier comments about the pre-wrath zombie event. Carry on.

What I found even creepier when looking for these things were the gryphons. If you look up at the roof tops near the entrance to the flight master there are a bunch of stabled gryphons just sitting there. Watching.
You can even see one in the screenshot here on the tower in the right of the picture. Am I the only one who never noticed these things watching me for all those years. *shudders*

Confirmed on Destromath-US.

hmm wonder if you can run around cities spamming a /tar shaker macro to find more? tried a quick lap of org on jubei'thos and got nothin'.
pietrex Mar 25th 2010 4:38AM
Not only haven't I seen them anywhere (Horde side), but I also can't seem to notice any earthquakes. :(
Aleph Mar 25th 2010 5:05AM
When the 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit us here in the Philippines a couple of hours ago, the first thought that came to my mind was [DND] Shakers. :\
Aggrajag Mar 25th 2010 5:10AM
I presume these mobs have the shake effect attached to them like giants such as Fel Reavers do when they walk? They've probably been there a while (giving devs time to place them all) and only just had the "shake tag" attached to their character profile.
Alas I am Horde and haven't seen, or felt, one yet :(
nobbie Mar 25th 2010 5:23AM
You are all wrong. The [DND]Shaker (do not distub shaker) mob appears when you enter the Stormwind inn and yell at the innkeeper: "A martini, sir .. shaken, not stirred!".
soulmidget Mar 25th 2010 8:22AM
[dnd] shaker on alleria-us just before server restart
marianocr1992 Mar 25th 2010 8:44AM
[DND] Shaker also seen in Deathwing US
Tryed to tickle him to unleash an earthquake,
nothing ... :(

As a player with multiple 80s who has seen most of the content in WoW, and had the opportunity to raid and quest and gain achievements and do dailies until I'm kind of tired of that stuff, another zombie invasion type event sounds kind of fun.
-->BUT, I was new to WoW and only level 20ish when the wrath pre-event stuff started, and I almost didn't survive as a player. That was the most miserable time, and I was suddenly feeling some pretty heavy buyer's remorse for the 3 months I had just pre-paid. When that was going on, this game sucked for me and other low-level players. There was no way to play - at all. And we didn't have the frame of reference to know what was going on, or why. There was absolutely nothing fun about it. It was like griefers suddenly had a license to do their best to make it impossible to play. You know how some people get, when hidden by the anonymity of the internet. Look at the way people talk on the forums or trade-chat. We aren't all like that, but too many are, and they, unfortunately, take advantage of that in these situations, which could, otherwise, be fun. In effect, I paid for 2 or 3 weeks of playtime when I was unable to play, at a time when I was not experience enough to know that it wouldn't always be like that.
Now, I am looking forward to a change of pace, which is what I heard so many other experienced players say at the time. But I think some protection for low-level toons needs to be in place if something like that happens again, or, at the very least, an explanation to new players of what is going on and why and that it won't last long. You may have thought that was obvious, but to me, at that time, it was not.
