BlizzCon 2010 Officially Announced: October 22nd - October 23rd

Despite the very sparse information available from Blizzard, we do know at least one thing -- Jay Mohr will be hosting again. Ticketing information is not available yet, and we don't expect it to be for some time. What this says about the release date of Cataclysm is also anyone's guess. We don't have any solid information on that at this time.
If you've been holding your breath waiting to find out when and where the next BlizzCon would be held, then... you've probably passed out by now. But if you've just been patiently watching for an announcement, then we've got good news for you: BlizzCon will be returning to the Anaheim Convention Center on Friday, October 22 through Saturday, October 23! Just as in years past, BlizzCon 2010 will feature an exciting mix of discussion panels, tournaments, hands-on gameplay, contests, and much more. Check out the announcement press release, and keep an eye on www.blizzcon.com in the months ahead for further details, including ticketing information.
Many of our readers have already weighed in on what they expect from this upcoming BlizzCon -- expectations are high. Hopefully we'll be getting for information about the event soon. You can bet that WoW.com will be there again this year, and we've already got plans in the works to hold an even bigger meetup than last year!

What does this mean regarding when they are likely to release Cata?
Faar Mar 25th 2010 11:54AM
Guess this means we won't see Cata until november then, making LK another 2-year stretch without any major additions to the game, leveling, lore or quest-wise.
I can't possibly see them fitting in Cata between now and Blizzcon, considering they've already said Starcraft's due for release in the first half of the year... (Unless I imagined that of course.)
It's also worth noting they haven't started any closed beta testing yet (or we'd heard of it by now, because people just can't keep secrets very well - unless you happen to be working on Blizzard's 2nd MMO of course... ;)). Considering LK closed and open betas went on all through summer and autumn I'm predicting we won't see the next game for quite a while yet... :(

Like the other expansions, I believe that Cataclysm will be released on November 23rd, 2010.

Unless you wanted to word that differently, I should note I'm just assuming you're saying that Wrath offered nothing new in its lifespan.
To that, I have two words to say to you: Dungeon Finder.

Unless you take the comment "next blizzcon you'll all be crying over goblin rogues" seriously. That would make Cata's release before October 22nd. /hope

@Lidodger, huh? WOW itself was launched on 11/23/2004, but neither of the expansions was released on 11/23 (BC launched on 1/16, WOTLK on 11/13).

Dungeon finder and gearscore have completely ruined the game.

^ Lol, Dungeon Finder is so bad bro.
Grovinofdarkhour Mar 30th 2010 10:59AM
Goblin rogues are going to steal your lunch.
And there's nothing you can do about it.
Bossy Mar 25th 2010 11:50AM
So Cata will launch the week after...
Parajoe Mar 25th 2010 11:58AM
It means cataclysm will be launched before October and not the proposed November launch dates. " in the next blizcon people will be complaining about goblin rogues"
Misanthrope Mar 25th 2010 12:10PM
Because people wouldn't be complaining about the rogues from beta, amirite?
Vahan Mar 25th 2010 12:10PM
I wouldn’t be so sure about that. I work in software verification and validation for a medical device manufacturer, while I realize that it is not strictly speaking the same, the general principles are the same. Given the magnitude of the changes, I would find it hard to believe that it will be released before December or January. I would have to think that Cataclysm would have to have a pretty long beta to flush out the more serious bugs. Then the developers will need time after beta to fix and then build the final release candidate. Once that is done the release candidate needs to be given to manufacturing and then they need to start manufacturing. Then it needs to go to distribution so that it can be delivered to countless number of retail outlets. All in all the steps big and little add up very quickly.
Sedirex Mar 25th 2010 12:59PM
Getting a perfect release candidate isn't the biggest concern. Remember that the LK box was patched up to 3.0.1, which was never playable, and we had 3.0.2 a month before LK release.

People seem to be forgetting Blizz has no concept of time what-so-ever. I mean how many times have we heard "Soon" from them? Sure it would be nice if we were qq'ing about goblin rogues at blizzcon, but that doesn't mean it's gonna happen. I'm trying to decide what is more of a waste of time; predicting blizz release dates or filling out this year's NCAA tournament bracket.
Molsan Mar 25th 2010 11:52AM
See you all there!
kale Mar 25th 2010 11:51AM
oh god oh god oh god oh god *squee*
Tori Mar 25th 2010 11:53AM
Would Cataclysm launch prior to the convention then?
neutronbomb98 Mar 25th 2010 11:57AM
Remember they said "You'll be complaining about Goblin Rogues by next Blizzcon"? Well there we have it. Cataclysm by October!
johnthediver Mar 25th 2010 1:09PM
I still have my hat in the ring for Cata in August. This BlizzCon will be all about SC2 and Diablo 3. They may also announce the title/theme of the next expansion, or the next gen mmo.
