The ghosts of Azeroth

Caer Darrow
The inhabitants of Caer Darrow are my favorite ghosts, not least because you can't see them at all until you've done a bit of work on their behalf. The island seems utterly deserted barring the Sarkhoff couple...until you realize that it's not, and that there's an entire town full of people trapped on its "happiest day," going about its business, oblivious to how the world's moved on. That there's a ghostly vendor you can't otherwise talk to without a Spectral Essence is even better.
Karazhan and the surrounding zone
I'll admit; my first trip through Deadwind Pass as a level 40ish druid scared me. The first thing that greets you on your entrance to the zone from Duskwood is a corpse swinging from a tree and an Inferno-esque sign warning you to turn back. When you hit the level cap in Burning Crusade, more horrors greeted you in the southern end of the zone, between a 10-man raid full of local nobles trapped in some demon-fueled time surrounding the First War, to a cellar and village full of equally hostile ghosts. And then, of course, there was Karazhan's crypt and the superbly-creepy room of upside-down sinners. Is that still accessible?
Darrowshire
Pamela Redpath and the Battle of Darrowshire questline. 'Nuff said.
I know Cataclysm's going to change a lot of these zones, but I sincerely hope that their ghosts manage to stick around -- or that a few more spectral goodies are unearthed in the upheaval.

Well there's the kodo ghosts in the kodo graveyard in Desolace. Believe you can only see them while dead.

Gaeriyan outside Gadgetzan for the Linken quest.

What about all those ghost quests blizzard said nobody has ever found didnt they say there was about 9 of them?
RetPallyJil Mar 28th 2010 11:29PM
I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers that bit. I was starting to think I'd lost my marbles.
kooda Mar 29th 2010 2:40AM
It was definetly there i might have to organize an event one day in which everyone gets themselves killed and runs round azeroth looking for quests dead

As far as ghosts(spirits) go, there is one quest line that will always stand out in my mind and brings tears even thinking about the ending.

Those who have been to Auberdine most likely know of Yalda. According to WoWwiki, the house she is standing next to used to be wrecked, but now it's whole and yet she still stands there. She doesn't say anything, doesn't give you a quest, isn't part of a quest chain, doesn't alert the guards if you come in from Horde-side...she's just...there...staring longingly out to sea, through the inn and toward the lighthouse.
I'd love to know what story they had planned for her, if any. I've even gone out to the lighthouse and managed to get up on the island itself, but there is nothing there that could account for her presence, or why she is staring at it. Or maybe she's not staring at it? Maybe she's staring out across the water, perhaps toward Darnassus? Who knows.

Not certain why that posted as a reply to you, Sinfulle. *grumble*grumble* Stupid comment system...
Anyway, as to your comment - yeah, I always loved that quest chain.

what happens when you combine http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=8888 with one of the longest corpse run in the game?
WIN!

That room of the upside-down sinners looks pretty cool. It's basically a perfect lift from Big Trouble in Little China.

Another sad ghost chain in WPL would be the Janice Felstone NPC (Better Late Than Never is gotten from a package after you talk to her in the nearby barn)
It reveals some things about a certain cockroach vendor in UC.

I always liked when living people on Alliance side are tied to dead people in the Forsaken, like the oft mentioned cockroach vendor and his ghost sister.
There was also the pre-wrath and pre-Naxxramas Scourge invasion event where you would find items that would lead you to npc's around the world. They were basically evidence that someone's family member had died (you found evidence of this off of Scourge) and when you turned the item in to the Argent folks, they'd find the 'next of kin' and give you a quest to go find them. You'd get lemonade and bread from them special that wouldn't show up in their vendor bag previously, or in the case of some trainers, they'd have the option to get the items from them now. It was a shame they took out the 'gossip' before vendors, because now you wouldn't be thanked by say, Zarena Cromwind in Booty Bay. I wish they didn't take away the little gossip feature for vendors, because some said some of the funniest things! All that to save some whiny people a whole second or two when clicking on an npc...

Gossipmonger on Curse lets you access those little bits again! They're still in the game, just turned off by default.

@PalominoMule: Oh hooray for you! I didn't think it was possible to make something that would do this. Thank you. :D

I went to go do the Caer Darrow chain today because even in the pursuit of Loremaster I managed to miss them.
I'm so glad I did.

This article was way too short and phoned in. Bad bad bad. Ghosts of azeroth truly deserves better. Fix it.
Ovamaestro Mar 29th 2010 6:57AM
absolutely, the darrowshire questline made me wipe a few tears from my eyes.
i'd like to add the benediction questline, and the arthas's heart questline in icecrown that was awesome too, in fact, that quest should be the attunement to enter icecrown citadel.

You can still get into Kara Crypts as a mage. Blink remains broken and imba as an explorers tool.

Hey Alisson,
Just saw your youtube video on ICC-10 putricide.
What setup are you using to record the raid encounter ?
I'm thinking about video recording all raids, especially pugs and i like the quality of your videos.
Any suggestions ?
thanks

There was a quest which apparently was disabled last year - it was the quest where you kill Ras Frostwhisper in HUMAN form.
You had to use your trinket and go to the upper staircase of Caer Darrow instead of entering the instance; you then had to speak with a dead soldier.
Problem is the stupid trinket no longer works anywhere near Caer Darrow so you can no longer get the quest.
At least it didn't last month.
If this has been changed let me know!
