Blood Pact: Destruction 101, page 2

Above is an image of the raid build I would recommend but there are many optional points spent there. Here's a link to it and below is a breakdown of each talent.
Example destruction raid build.
Talent overview
Affliction talents:
- Suppression - can be taken to prop up hit until gear provides enough.
- Improved Corruption - If you want to include Corruption in your rotation then you'll be wanting this.
Demonology talents:
- Improved Healthstone - As this doesn't give any direct or inferred DPS gain it is often left out but can be handy as a filler. Take it as an optional.
- Improved Imp - Firebolt is going to be around 10% of your damage. So this is a straight 1% DPS gain per point, nice.
- Demonic Embrace - You'll not be tapping a lot so the value here is less than for other specs but it's still a decent place to put filler points -- dead locks have low DPS.
- Fel Synergy - You probably want at least a point in here, maybe two. Don't let that little guy slack by getting all dead on you.
- Fel Vitality - More power to the small one and to you as well. Worth the points.
- Demonic Aegis - This is why you have filler points in demonology, this talent rocks socks.
Destruction talents:
Improved Shadow Bolt- Shadow Bolt is for those other specs, you wanna be throwing fire about so no gain in putting points here.- Bane - With ISB having no use this is a must-have, but it's also pretty sweet, so all good.
- Aftermath - Each point offers a 3% bump to about 5% of your damage, so 0.15%. Not a big deal but the daze is pretty sweet and the alternatives give you no DPS at all.
- Molten Skin - Viable alternative to Aftermath if you die a lot but not a DPS gain.
- Cataclysm - Mana efficiency is your thing, this is a part of it.
- Demonic Power - Buffs to the imp, we like that.
- Shadowburn - I like this as a leveling spell but no good for raiding.
- Ruin - Make your Crits do 200% damage rather than 150%, that's nice.
- Intensity - Pushback resistance is nice to grab along the way, so snap it up.
- Destructive Reach - Good for both range and threat management but if you don't have issues in either area then feel free to only have the one point here.
Improved Searing Pain- Don't need it. Pass.- Backlash - 3% extra crit is great for raiding and the insta-Incinerates are great for grinding.
- Improved Immolate - solid buff to Immolate but also essential to getting your mitts on Conflagrate.
- Devastation - 5% crit chance on almost every spell you cast for a single talent point. Lovely.
Nether Protection- has had some specialist, situational uses, but not worth including in your build.- Emberstorm - More damage to almost everything and more casts of your filler. Whoop!
- Conflagrate - There is nothing not to love about this spell, except the complexity of just how it works.
- Soul Leech - On a fight like BQL (with constant damage) you can expect to get about 10% of your healing from this spell alone. Handy and required for ISL.
Pyroclasm - You can expect this to be up for somewhere around 75% of the time, so it's a nice buff.- Shadow and Flame - Straight-up damage buff, always good.
- Improved Soul Leech - Applies Replenishment to the group and fills up the blue bar for you.
- Backdraft - Part of the reason Conflagrate is so awesome.
- Shadowfury - Hugely fun spell but not much use in a raid environment. Get it for non-raids and lols.
- Empowered Imp - Synergy with the snot-ball -- better than it sounds.
- Fire and Brimstone - All-around damage gains, gotta have this.
- Chaos Bolt - Great spell, nice damage and it's green.
Gems
For a meta use the Chaotic Skyflare Diamond. Unfortunately this needs two blue gems so make sure you have a couple of Purified Dreadstones at all times. With that in mind and if the socket bonus is a load of spell power (head and chest items for example) then feel free to gem for the bonus, matching colors as below. Otherwise, just put pure spell power gems all the way.
- Blue - Spell power and spirit
- Red - Pure spell power
- Yellow - Spell power and haste
Glyphs
A lot of warlock glyph information can be found in a previous Blood Pact: Warlock glyphs to use, ignore or to dream for. Typical setup for endgame destruction would be:
Enchants for the endgame
- Head - Arcanum of Burning Mysteries
- Shoulders - Greater Inscription of the Storm (or Master's Inscription of the Storm for scribes)
- Back - Greater Speed (or Lightweave Embroidery for tailors)
- Chest - Powerful Stats
- Wrist - Superior Spellpower (or Fur Lining - Spell Power for leatherworkers)
- Hands - Exceptional Spellpower (or Precision if under hit cap, or Hyperspeed Accelerators for engineers)
- Legs - Brilliant Spellthread
- Feet - Icewalker or Tuskarr's Vitality
- Rings - Greater Spellpower
- Weapon - Mighty Spellpower or Greater Spellpower for a staff
Don't forget to add extra gem sockets where you can (waist for all, wrist and hands for blacksmiths).

that chalkboard says "Destruction lol"

3.3.3 did not change the glyph. The spell power bonus is still based on spirit. The -mana returns- from life tap are now based on spell power.

I thought that Destro should be using glyph of LT over Glyph of Immo. Has something changed recently? I just did a very quick check and it seems like most of my usual sources for lock theory crafting are still recommending LT for all builds.
stieinberg Mar 29th 2010 9:33AM
Prior to 3.3.3 glyph of LT pulled in higher but in most high end gear set ups now glyph of immo pulls in a little more because of the lack of spirit on tier 10 gear
Valcore Mar 29th 2010 9:35AM
As you get more and more T10 and non-spirit ICC gear Glyph of LT becomes less attractive. You should be running with Glyph of Immo, Conflag and Incinerate as Incin makes about ~50% of your damage not including your pet (also use a Firestone because so much of your damage is direct damage).
In my experience, I think the rotation listed isn't quite optimised.
On Something that lives more than 10 seconds, it should be Curse > Conflag > CB > Immo> Incin . A few caveats are that when you're on the move or about to be CC'ed (just got spit on by fester for example) you should cast Corruption. Also, when opening if you are going for maximum burst it's best to go Immo, CB, Conflag and spam Incinerate. Why CB before Conflag? Server lag will delay your being able to cast Conflagrate and CB is your next highest damage spell.
Just a sidenote, if I'm at all worried that I'll pull a mob off the tank right away during the opening pull (boss or trash) I will start with a curse and corruption and then go into my rotation. This gives the tank at least 2 seconds to establish threat while still giving you something valuable to do with your time.
Morthaine Mar 29th 2010 11:09AM
uh, 3.3.3 changed Glyph of Lifetap to scale with spellpower and not spirit. You should be using this glyph.
Arthercy Mar 29th 2010 10:47AM
@Matt
Actually, according to the guys over at Elitist Jerks, Glyph of Imp is best for the 3rd glyph spot at higher gear levels, with the Glyph of Immolate being slightly behind or on par with it. Glyph of Life Tap has lost a lot of value with the lack of spirit on t10 gear.
@Valcore
I'll agree with you that on an opening sequence it is often better to CB > Conflag due to server lag & Conflag not being available right away. However, beyond that, the priority should always be Curse > Immol > Conflag > CB > Incin. I'm not sure why you placed Conflag & CB before Immol since (1) you can't even cast Conflag if Immol isn't up & (2) CB should only be cast when Immol is on the target since it will hit 10% harder with the Fire & Brimstone talent.
@Dmonic Hobbs
No love for Rocket Boots again, but glad to see that Tuskarr's Vitality & Hyperspeed Accelerators made the list this time.
Thanks again Mr. Hobbs for another great article.
Arthercy Mar 29th 2010 10:51AM
@Morthaine
No... while it is true that Life Tap now scales with spellpower & not spirit, this refers to the mana return from the ability & in no way affects the buff from Glyph of Life Tap.

@Morthaine
Running SimulationCraft with this profile:
http://profiler.wowhead.com/?profile=20850049
if I swap Immolate for Lifetap glyph (and add the action to keep the buff active) the DPS drops by a little over 200. That also comes with a more complex rotation so unless you specifically gain from GoLT I still recommend Immo.
As a further test I used the same profiles but set the latency to low, the % difference more than doubled which I guess shows one of the issues of a more complex rotation.
ryanmillertime Mar 29th 2010 11:03AM
I spent 20min testing at a training dummy the difference between these two glyphs and found a few hundred dps extra with glyph of lifetap over immolate.
As for the simcrafting... who has a full ilev277 set? Is the simcraft updated to the spellpower scaling that was put in last week? I'm really skeptical of it when I can just use the training dummy in-game to find immediately relevant trustworthy info.
For most raiders, in 245/251 gear, GoLT appears to be a clear DPS gain over GoImmo

@Dominic Hobbs
*Dominic* sorry for spelling your name wrong. WTB edit button.
@Ryanmillertime
"I spent 20min testing at a training dummy"
20 whole minutes, eh? When I run SimCraft I do 10k iterations with a fight time of 5 minutes. Something tells me, SimCraft > 20min on a training dummy.
"As for the simcrafting... who has a full ilev277 set?"
This is precisely why you're encouraged to run Sims based on YOUR gear. Hobbs was even kind enough to do an entire write up a few weeks ago on how to do this.
"Is the simcraft updated to the spellpower scaling that was put in last week?"
I assume you mean how LT now scales with SP instead of Spirit. Yes, Simcraft is updated for 3.3.3. Does this change even effect your DPS? No.
"I can just use the training dummy in-game to find immediately relevant trustworthy info."
Are you hitting this dummy with a full compliment of raid buffs/debuffs? Accounting for mobility, proc uptime, etc? Any data you get from a training dummy is almost completely worthless.
"For most raiders, in 245/251 gear, GoLT appears to be a clear DPS gain over GoImmo"
Obviously GoLT's worth is going to be completely dependent on your current gear & total Spirit (again, this is why you should run your own Sims). For example, for myself, sims show that GoImm is worth ~136.81 DPS & 1 point of spellpower is worth ~1.9 DPS. If we assume this value to be fairly accurate the question becomes: when does Glyph of Life Tap (GoLT) grant less than 136.81 DPS? If 1 point of Spellpower is equal to 1.9 DPS, then we would need to earn less than (136.81 / 1.9 = 72 Spellpower) from GoLT, which is equal to (72 / 0.20 = 360.03 Spirit). Also consider that Priests (Divine Spirit, 80), Druids (Gift of the Wild, 51.8 [talented]) and Paladins (Blessing of Kings, 10%) provide +Spirit buffs. Assuming that your raid has all three of these classes (which nearly all do), you would then only need 195.5 Spirit (see below for calculation) to keep GoLT. I currently have 220 spirit, so yes, GoLT is still slightly better than GoImmo for me (though GoImp is better than both). However, as I continue to gear up in ICC it won't be long before GoLT drops below GoImm in value.
X + (X)(0.10[Kings]) = 360.03
(X / 0.1) + (X / 1) = (177.57 / 0.1)
(10X / 1) + (X / 1) = 17757
11X = 17757
X = (17757 / 11)
X = 327.30
---
327.3 – 80 [DS] – 51.8 [GotW] = 195.5
Arthercy Mar 29th 2010 1:39PM
Again, WTB edit button:
X + (X)(0.10[Kings]) = 360.03
(X / 0.1) + (X / 1) = (360.03 / 0.1)
(10X / 1) + (X / 1) = 3600.3
11X = 3600.3
X = (3600.3 / 11)
X = 327.3
---
327.3 – 80 [DS] – 51.8 [GotW] = 195.5

Although "Dmonic Hobbes" is fitting for a lock. (demonic?)

Another good warlock post.
However you state "While demo has a lot of burst it doesn't have an execute phase. " I guess that should read Destro as Demo certainly does have an execute phase with Soulfire spam once Decimation kicks in

Fixed with thanks.

Wow - SO funny I was just thinking "what happened to Blood Pact lately?" not even 20 minutes ago and bam here it is.
Back on topic - It's been a coin toss in the air on whether to use glyph of Immolation or glyph of Life Tap. I've switched to glyph of Life Tap and noticed my DPS has gone up significantly - that being as long as you keep it active.
Dominic Hobbs Mar 29th 2010 9:41AM

Patch 3.3.3 seems to tip the balance in favour of Immolate again, but that said, if you get better results with GoLT it's certainly not a bad glyph choice.
romeolock Mar 29th 2010 11:41AM
i like alot of your recommendations. One thing i noticed was the feet enchant. Engineers should be using theirs and such with the back enchant. Also glyph of LT does not become viable at all in icc because there is little to no spirit and with the imo change 10% more dmg when it crits becomes like 25% more dmg dont quote the exact number. But either way on boss fights recount list imo(dot) as my 2nd highest dmg now.
Talasna Mar 29th 2010 9:37AM
If you're hit capped then Engineering's Rocket Boots are much nicer than Icewalker. Also you can now shoot flames out of your feet as well as your hands :D
