WoW Moviewatch: Enchants Are A Girl's Best Friend
I enjoyed Gigi's departure from rap videos. While I know she might return to those soon enough, I was glad to see her expanding her repertoire, and putting some proof out there that she can perform in other styles. The lyrics themselves were okay, and I think she did a decent job of getting enchanting-related language to fit the poetry of the well-known song from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Since Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend is most well-known for its performance by Marilyn Monroe, I think Bloodvein did a solid job of recreating a Monroe-like feel for this video. There's something to be said for the shout out to a stage performer, and Bloodvein handled the material well.
I'm not sure about the advertisements and plugs before the video started, though. While nothing about them intrinsically bothered me, they took up nearly fifty seconds of a six minute video. That's a pretty steep entry barrier for an audience who isn't highly motivated to watch the movie, and I wonder if it kept some people from checking out the entirety.

I don't like nearly a minute of ads. I don't like Gigi. The video was made well, but I didn't watch most of it because of Gigi's irritating voice.

Agreed!

I appreciate the effort on Gigi's part, and her courage to try her hand at a different style of song. That being said, I hope she sticks with her rap songs, they suit her much better.

i like her voice but for the most part although this movie may be newish she has had this song on her site for over a year.

would it be a dis if my wife were to re-record this while actually hitting the notes that Nicole Kidmen hit whilst performing this thing (The "diamonds area girl's best friend")? ...also keeping with the tune wouldn't have been a bad idea either - just some points from a pair of WoW heads who do sing... stick to the speaking and pwnage in PvP Gigi... singing isn't your strong point.
David King Mar 29th 2010 12:18PM
I stopped watching because it was boring, not because of her voice.
Stephanie Mar 29th 2010 8:01PM
Agreed.
Also, her voice was the weakest sound in the video. I understand trying to create a style (lounge singing) but what is the point of the song if I have no idea what you're saying?
I guess that comes from her rap background. (ba dum ching!)

The machinima looked very nice :)
As for Gigi's singing.. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't exactly great either. It's not a song I feel any need to listen to again.
And I prefer artists that are either modest or only show off for fun or to be ironic, neither of which apply to Gigi.. Ill leave it at that :)
Sarah Mar 29th 2010 12:23PM
Well, her singing was a bit better than her "rapping", but was she suppose to sound drunk?

Movie - OK.
Storyline - Yuk.
Music - Good.
Lyrcis - Fail.
I didn't make it half way. But wow, too much time watching a sword travel.
Qot Mar 29th 2010 1:04PM
Not only that, but the sword traveled backwards. She threw it blade-forward, it spun until it was flying hilt-forward, stopped spinning... Then it hit the gnome's hair blade-forward.

I don't think she really has the vocal strength to carry off a Monroe-esque performance - I've preferred her rap work quite a lot more.
Eberron Mar 29th 2010 12:38PM
.... When will someone take this dead cat's mic away from her already?
Meatwadz Mar 29th 2010 12:38PM
Um... I thought you had to be GOOD to get your videos featured here. The video is alright but the music is just god awful. I'm not trying to be rude, but this is talentless garbage that doesn't deserve a spot on wow.com.
Khremloc Mar 29th 2010 12:54PM
You must be new here. :)
Tekwolf Mar 29th 2010 12:41PM
2 min intro?... for that?! no thanks...
David Mar 29th 2010 1:40PM
I counted, it was actually 1 minute and that was just beyond ridiculous.
Drakkenfyre Mar 29th 2010 12:59PM
Gigi isn't helping her videos by putting that much advertising before the video.
Lornos Mar 29th 2010 12:58PM
I have to agree with you, well, not really, every thing was about this was horrible. Half of it was composed of lame intros, I could care less about these nobodies, and when it finally came it to the song I had to kill the vid. Her voice was heavy and throaty, and the lyrics were trash. I have to wash out my ears with some real music to get this foul taste out of my mind. Worst minuet ever spent. Those cheesy musical notes off the piano did not fit well at all with the color scheme and scenery, the character animations ripped from the model viewer were strung together in a very choppy way.
Saying I could do better would open my self up a can of pain, but surely with all the people involved in this project it could have come out much much better. If you cant sing, don't try, find some one who can. Just because you have access to the video editing software default from Apple doesn't mean it gives you the experience and talent to string an awesome machinima together. I am all for people trying to express them selves in art, but this is not the way to do it.

Now that I have actually listened to the song, ugh, the voice is terrible. I don't criticize people often, and I think that giving your best outweighs talent sometimes, but her singing in that video is, I don't think she can pull it off.
And this is coming from someone who doesn't like her videos anyway. She didn't use autotune, and "rap" about PVP, but I don't think she has the voice to pull that off, not Marilyn Monroe.
