Lil Sparky's workshop uses Auctioneer/Auctionator scan data, and shows you the cost of the mats for the item, and the amount its selling for on AH.

Informant tells you how much each stack of ore/herb is worth if you prospect/mill it. If you compare it to the cost of the stack on its own, its easy to figure out which is a better choice. ie. Informant tells you the average worth of a stack of Titanium ore is 220g if prospected. Titanium ore stacks are 250g on AH. Selling on AH is a better choice.
