Upcoming WoW manga releases

Two new releases are coming from Tokyopop's Warcraft manga line. Both will be written by Richard A. Knaak, touching upon subject matter he's dealt with before in licenses Warcraft releases. The first is Warcraft: Mage, another class-specific WoW book (following on the heels of the successful Death Knight manga). It certainly looks like Rhonin's on the cover there, although the story purports to be about "a young mage who faces his greatest challenge when he is forced to confront a foe only he can stop." Presumably Rhonin gets to be the Yoda this time.
Also coming out is Shadow Wing, volume 1, titled The Dragons of Outland. It's about the dragons of Outland. It's also about Tyragosa and Jorad Mace following the events of the Sunwell Trilogy, how they ended up in Outland giving folks quests in Netherstorm, and how Malygos got his groove back.

Varissa: "All right, all of you, listen please..."
Rhonin: "Honey, please, let me."
Varissa: "urgh... all right."
Rhonin: "ah-hem.... MINIONS, FALL IN!"

What... is up... with the damn shoulders? Wow, look how important I am. My shoulders are two football fields long and big. Clearly I am strong because I wear them.
Seriously, this is more than just Blizzard's need for a "silhouette" and more of a need to peacock their males.
/end rant

At least the second Manga should be a bit more attached to WoW a less to the Author. I know they're still Knaak creations, but they actually could do with a bit of fleshing out.

Apparently today is opposite day.

I that case, I think Knakk is a terrible author and everyone that dislikes him, does so for a comletely intelligent and valid reason and are not just jumping on the Knakk bashing bandwagon.
Hello.

Sorry, I think I should make myself clearer. Even though Jarod Mace and Tyragosa, they are characters with attachments to existing lore and events and not a creation that personafies the Author.
Unlike other "Mary Sue" authors (such as Michael A. Stackpole and Timothy Zahn from the Star Wars universe), who tend to make 'their' character look like them, as well as sharing personalities and casting too much importance on 'their' characters instead of their support characters, Knaak is at least paying some attention to his secondary and tertiary characters (at last).
Now, whether we like it or not, Authors have to create their own characters. Usually out of fear of mishandling existing characters or by constantly reusing dialogue from the original franchise (another annoyance I have with Star Wars authors), but also as a means to attach themselves to an existing franchise. Again, I have read novels written by people that haven't added any new protagnognists with their story, and I have to say, the vast majority of them become very poor stories. Again, to provide a Star Wars example, read Planet of Twilight. A truely abysmal novel. (seriously, force vampires.....)
ANYWAY. Knaaks problem in my eyes is that he's created this character called Rhonin, which was a great fun character when held JUST in the context of Day of the Dragons, but the character has had so much attention since that time, including becoming the leader of the Kirin Tor that it's hard for other's to care. That's the Mary Sue aspect of Knaak that I have come to loath.
All the other characters, however, lack this. In fact, the lack of attention on them seems to be a symptom of Knaak's decision to concentrate so much of Rhonin (and to a lesser extent, Krasus). If he had chosen to spread his attention across all of his creations, then this hate would probably be lessoned.
Don't get me wrong, he fails to make be care about any of this characters so far (except for Falstad), and some of the oddities in his stories which conflict with existing lore frustrates me a fair bit, but those issues are so minor compared to the issue of over-identifying with a single character that I'm willing to overlook them when reading his works.
We'll all rejoice when he finally kills Rhonin off (please?)

Rhonins death ? Now THAT would be a book I'd appriciate from Knaak!

At least the kid in the front's got the right idea.
KILL IT WITH FIRE!

Only you can save us, God-Mage! Use your almighty FLAMING TRESSES to vanquish the evil ONLY YOU CAN STOP.

Hummm.. what's the point of the article :/?
At least we could get a date, with that title. I mean, in the article itself, not following the links. Otherwise, just link it and save the words :/
And if it was just to mention what had already been mentioned before, you forgot about WoW: Shaman.
Kharon Apr 3rd 2010 10:26PM
Why the downrate? Seriously, the article isn't even about the books coming out soon.
Celess Apr 4th 2010 7:02AM
It's called an ANNOUNCEMENT.
Celess Apr 4th 2010 7:03AM
Stupid edit system...
...Continuing...
I'm sure you didn't look to Blizz and say "Why are you telling us about Cataclysm? This blue post isn't even about content that's out soon!"
