World of Warcraft: Cataclysm press beta invites going out

In the pre-invite email, Blizzard says that they're gearing up for the Cataclysm beta, and that a Battle.net account is required to participate. Members of the press with a BNet account who received the email can then sign up for the invite pool.
What we don't know: when it's happening. Press registration for the beta is open until April 15th, but Blizzard specifically states that they have no start date ready to announce. We'll keep you updated with more information, including the beta launch date and any new info that comes out of the beta, as soon as it becomes available.
Right now, if you are not a member of the press and get one of these, it is likely a scam. Practice safe browsing.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it. Nothing will be the same. In WoW.com's Guide to Cataclysm you can find out everything you need to know about WoW's third expansion. From Goblins and Worgens to Mastery and Guild changes, it's all there for your cataclysmic enjoyment.Filed under: News items, Cataclysm

I predict a late April/Early may "regular" cataclysm beta, meaning people can opt into a lottery by then.

Is there anyway that you can create a filter on WoW.com to ignore certain tags? I really don't mind reading about things like class changes and what not, but I don't want everything about the new zones, the new raids, and the changes to existing zones spoiled for me, and if Wrath was any indication, that info will hit this site like a deluge.
I know you guys put it behind spoiler cuts, and I know I can just skip past, but I was wondering if there was any way to just skip the spoilery entries all together.

you opt into the beta pool with your battle.net account settings.

Cyanea
try subscribing to the RSS feed and only use that so that way all you have to look at is the titles and if it's talking about zones you can skip it. That might solve your problem.

so as soon as press is able to get into beta are we going to be able to get the information about beta? are any of the WoW.com staff getting this beta invite?

Is there a reason the post above this one can't be commented on? I was going to inquire/suggest my combat rotation.

For some reason the 'comment' page is absent.

@ the people wondering why they can't comment on the thread above this
Comments are not allowed for any page but the last, so just go to the last page and bam. You can comment

an easy way to check if the email is real without even opening it is by going to your Battle.net page and see if cataclysm beta is added to your games.
Did it the same way fo Starcraft 2, never even opened the email but it was genuine after all.

@jishdefish: Read the entire article. It's three pages, and comments are only open on the last.

Awwwwww shit chea
devilsei Apr 7th 2010 4:39PM
Huh... anyone else more than a little worried about the fact they are skipping through some stages of testing apparently? If what is said in this article is true, they are skipping both the end of alpha-phase testing, and closed beta testing...
Which sounds like they are wanting to push this out the door sooner rather than later. Last time they've done this, we learned that bombs can magically fix broken things and put them back together.
AltairAntares Apr 7th 2010 4:41PM
The idea of alpha and closed beta is that you don't know about it, so how exactly do you know they haven't done it?
phoenixblight Apr 7th 2010 4:42PM
You are worrying too much. For all we know they just did the testing internally then those that are friends and family will be the first wave for the beta. They have been doing this for how long? They know what they are doing after fixing the issues of the last two expansion releases.
