StarCraft II Collector's Edition to include WoW vanity pet
Blizzard has just recently announced StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty's collector's edition. Normally this isn't something we would talk about here on WoW.com, but the contents make it worth mentioning. Specifically, WoW players will receive a Thor mini-pet, seen to the right. For those of you who don't follow StarCraft at all, the Thor is a new ubermech unit for the Terran faction. It's not only voice acted by Chris Metzen, but the pilot of the unit is based directly off him. One of his old aliases is Thundergod, after all. The Thor is big and it's bad-ass, and that's about all that you need to know. I wonder if it will interact with Grunty and the Zergling?BigDownload has the full scoop on the contents of the collector's edition. There's great value there, even for people who don't play WoW. The collector's edition also includes a 2GB flash drive made to resemble Jimmy Raynor's dog tags, a 172-page art book, a behind the scenes DVD and more.

hahaha! Again, I laugh at the scenarios Role players must create and explain in order to incorporate these crazy new pets.

Well, we do have intergalactic jewel crafters. And watch-makers. Maybe they joined forces to make the most exquisite little robot in Azeroth.
Not sure where the murloc got that gun though.

I would have preferred a baneling pet. Those things are just too damned adorable when they roll around.

Put the cookie down.....NOW!!!!!!!!

That makes sense, a World of Warcraft vanity pet for a Starcraft game... Well that's what Ebay's for I guess.
The mini-pet had better have the Arny voice as well though >_>

Yeah, this is really disappointing. :/ I have never played StarCraft and am not interested in it at all. Guess I'll have to stalk eBay for this guy. /sigh

He needs a new soundfile:
I will THOR-MINATE you!
I hope he interacts with the Zergling or Murloc Marine pets.

I was actually hoping for:
"I hope you leave enough room for my 600pound gattling gun, CAUSE I"M ABOUT TO RAM IT INTO YOUR STOMACH!!"

In other stories on this development, the SC2:CE is being priced at $99.99 (with the standard release sitting at $59.99). Significantly higher than the WoW CEs.

And I know I'll be downvoted for it, but I think $60 for the base game is expensive. *puts on old man glasses and takes out walking stick* In my days, SC1 came out in 1998 for just $40! What happened to those old reasonable prices? EA sold the PC version of Mass Effect 2 for $10 less than consoles at a $50 price tag. Activision-Blizzard knows everyone will buy SC2 for $60 and like it though, so we have that price. I miss the $40 days though.

Games cost more to produce than they did back in the day
RogueJedi86 Apr 8th 2010 2:34PM
It's not like games were cheap to make back then. Games from 10 years ago may look simple now, but they were tough and expensive to produce then too. Technology moves on, I'm sure it was the same effort to make a game 10 years ago as it is now. You're deluding yourself if you think they didn't raise game prices to $60 just because they could. They knew people would pay it, so they raised it. Even if development costs remained the same for the next 50 years, you know they'd try to raise the price of games so they can make even more profit.
You can sell a game at $40 and make profit, you just have to sell more, which is easier when your game is being bought by impulse shoppers who see the cheap price and buy it for that. You know, the kind of people who already wait for new games to have a price drop before they buy.
Here's hoping the expansion packs aren't $60 too. In light of the $60 price tag of the base game, I doubt we'll see $20 expansion packs like the original game. My bet is they'll sell them for $40 like WoW expansions.

They've been working on that game for a gazillion years, it should be expensive.

Recessions and inflation happen.

Um, methinks WOW costs $15 a month. . . . while starcraft 2 and battlenet playing will be free.
THey need to get more out of first time sales of SC2.
THink Wc3 and SC1 have are still being played on Battlenet after 10 and 15 years.
Battlenet is not a money maker.
