It stands for Random Number Generator.

Usually when it's used as it was in this article, it's just describing how random elements of certain fights can screw you up no matter how coordinated you are.

Alone in the Darkness... Tribute to Dedicated Insanity... all achievements where even the best groups can get screwed by an unlucky combination of random events.
