Aesthetics matter. I enjoy being a tree. I enjoy the cast animation, the dance animation, the cower animation, the sleep animation. I wish that when I died in tree form I'd split in half and spin like any other treant upon death.
I do not enjoy being a tauren. I play a tauren so I can be a druid, I do not play a druid so I can be a tauren.
I see this as an easy way for Blizzard to get a paid race change out of me, because if I have to look at my druid in caster form I'd much rather look at a troll than have so much of my screen blocked by a tauren.
I'm against this. I rolled my druid in early BC, shortly after tree form was introduced. I did it in order to fill a healer gap in my guild. I could have picked any class that could heal, but I chose druid due to tree form. Now I've invested to much time to give him up, but I'm still upset about this change.
