Breakfast Topic: My life is a mess

My desk at work has stacks of old reports, many from months ago. There are tons of Post-it notes all around with phone numbers and addresses; to whom they belong, I have no clue. But if it wasn't important, I wouldn't have written it down. The notes stay. (Especially the ones with scribbles of dinosaurs.)
My Warcraft life is no different. I was doing yet another run through of Hellfire Ramparts yesterday on my shaman alt, and I struggled to find a place to put Gargolmar's Hand in my bag. And Omor's Hoof. And ... oh god, there's a third item for this quest, too? What the heck am I going to throw out?
Somehow, the fact that I still had Ice Cold Milk in my bag eluded me for the last 40 levels or so. And Umi's Mechanical Yeti? I don't hate myself enough to spend an hour flying around Kalimdor to actually finish that quest. Six slots are full of Argent Dawn memorabilia. There are probably even a couple of grays in here, but I'll be damned if I can find them when it's time to vendor.
I tried solving the problem by creating a bank alt, but if you couldn't guess, the bank alt's bags quickly became a mess.
Are you a hoarder too? Is there something in your bags that's hopelessly out of date, and yet you can't bring yourself to get rid of it? And good god, man, what am I going to do with these seven stacks of Peacebloom?

I'm the same to an extent, in my WoW life, personal life, and professional (LOL) life.
I tend to keep equips or quest items that are unique to me, and they sit in my bank, sometimes in my bags until I put them in my bank, forever. I know I'll probably have all my Noblegarden stuff claiming a few slots for a while.
I just can't bring myself to get rid of some of this stuff.
Sometimes I wish I could just drop it and someone else could come by and pick it up. At least then I can hope it found a new home...

The Mallet of Zul'Farrak comes to mind because it was such a pain to get.

I usually have the same problem, everytime i got a quest item and no room, or an epic dropped which I can use and full bags, I always tend to throw away something "of value" only later to discover I couldve gone for 1 less stack of conjured strudel :)

SellJunk Addon could get you started, Fox.
Just hit 'Sell Junk' whenever you visit a vendor and see all your gray items disappear in a tenth of a second.

tried a few and reagent restocker's my favourite
autosell not a button and grabs anything i need
arcane powder/tele/port runes on mage
wild spineleaf on druid
exactly 0-199 bullets short of a full quiver of trash bullets on hunter
auto repair
adds stuff to your sell list so its not just greys

Oooooh nooo! The horror of such an addon! Sure I can understand the use for some people, but I would never forgive myself if I accidentally sold things like A Steamy Romance Novel, Broken I.W.I.N. Button or Pet Rock, all gray items of immeasurable value to me.
Looking at my work desk... hmmm.... I'm a bit ashamed to admit it, but my wow bags are definitely better organized then my workspace:S
WTB real life Arkinventory+Altoholic addons; it's SO inconvenient that I cannot run a search command on my house to see where the heck I put my drivers license.....

AutoProfitX autosells your junk and has an exceptions list for the junk you don't want to sell.

GarbageFU - absolutely invaluable when even those grays have a significant sale value. :D
My level 80 Warlock can never part with her Nathrezim Mindblade. We worked very, very hard to get to Prince...then get back to him again and again until he was finally down.

I had the same grey item problem as you did, until I started using this macro:
http://www.wowwiki.com/Useful_macros#Sell_all_grey_items
I got into the habit of clicking it whenever I had a vendor window up - there are addons that do it, of course, but the macro is easier to set up. :)
But of course, the space I save by selling greys is instantly taken up by other non-grey items of equal importance. ;)

My bags used to be a mess like that. But then I got a bag mod, so I can have all my items sorted for me. Makes it a lot easier to find things that don't need to be in my bags, like food/water/greys and sell them.
Which leaves even more room for me to packrat stuff! YAY!
Fun game! See what sorta random things you can find in my bags that probably don't belong there!
Top bag is my bags.
Bottom bags is my bank.

Which bag add-on is that Cary and did you have to config it for all those individual categories?
Noah Apr 11th 2010 9:18AM
Agreed. ArkInventory is beautiful.
Tash Apr 11th 2010 9:19AM
It's ArkInventory a great bag addon, with some custom(?, never messed around with skins on it) skins applied. And yes you do have to config it for all the individual categories, but its quite easy once you see how to do it since its all in drop-down menus.

Someone aught to link back to wow.com for them:

If you don't care for ArkInventory (it has a great feature set but I don't much care for its interface) I would suggest Baggins. It has an amazing number of categories to sort on (expandable via additional addons), is pretty intuitive for setting up sorting, and has a nice clean UI. The default sorting is pretty good, but I spent--well, way too much time--getting it to do some crazy things, like:
* Sorts out level-appropriate potions, food, drink, and bandages.
* Sorts out BoE equipment from other greens & blues.
* Sorts and hides the gear from my equipment sets.
* Has my banks sorted by level into several categories: Current Gear (for more equipment sets), Old Wrath Gear, BC and Vanilla Gear, Professions, and Other.
It's very, very nice. I don't have to think about what's what... I can just log in to any of my toons and everything is and goes where I expect it to. I also use the following plugins with my setup: Scrap, Baggins Scrap, Baggins_LibFilter, and Baggins_Search.

My bank is full of gear that's ridiculously outdated but just looks so cool that i can't get rid of it. In fact, i've never sold/disenchanted/destroyed an epic that i've equipped. I rarely have more than three or four spare slots in my bags.
Bryan Dare Apr 11th 2010 12:22PM
I like pancakes.
And by that, I mean it's always good to be reminded that I'm not the only one who actually cares about keeping cool-looking gear around.
Also, I just like pancakes. =3

That's what I'm doing. Bag slots full of vanity.
Made an RP toon, level 15 with hundreds of gold already collecting nice clothes. Apparently now that I can make money with no real effort there's no stoping even my low level toons from becoming collectors.
...but those grey bracers DO match that green outfit perfectly.
Izzie Apr 11th 2010 8:19AM
I use CrapAway. It's awesome. No thinking required and it only sells gray items. XD

I know the feeling, I still have my first T4 from kara and my T6 + shadow resist pieces from BT. I found a couple addons that help with organization though. First i use Tbag (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/tbag-shefki.aspx), I love how it sorts out my food, gear, mats and such from one another. Along with that i use Sell-O-Matic (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/sell-o-matic.aspx) to pawn off my greys automatically every time I stop to repair. Those two make it way easier to keep that useless junk out of my bags so i have room for anything I might need to pick up in a dungeon or while out questing.
