My issue with inscription is that it is an incredibly boring profession in terms of everyday utility. The only non-glyph items I can create are off-hands, scrolls, vellum, and Darkmoon cards, and the off-hands are essentially worthless to me since my scribe is not a caster. I can see the value of the profession as a money-maker, but that doesn't interest me as much as how a profession can enhance my own game play. I'm waiting to see how Blizzard updates it for Cataclysm, but I am likely going to drop it for Alchemy if it continues to offer so little in terms of fun, useful craftables.

You get free shoulder enchants- it's the same basic type of bonus that all crafting professions have. Except engineering, which sucks for a lot of classes.
