Emerald Dream is a big collaboration move created about a half dozen machinima personalities. The lyrics were written by Gigi, who obviously also did a large number of the vocals. But you can also hear Sharm and Princess Superstar performing in this piece. Other collaborators include Bloodvein Movies, WoPairs, Teagen and Kam. The video is in part intended to bring some attention to snowleopard.org, so take a moment and go check out that site after you've seen the video.
Emerald Dream is a pretty interesting music video, and I think it definitely grows the "belf rap" genre by leaps and bounds. The music is refreshingly original, although I'm sure as soon as I say that someone will point out that I don't recognize the original version. Even if that's the case, the lyrics and beat were both intriguing. I felt like the overall narrative was much stronger than most music videos, and it definitely raises the bar for these performers.
The video was obviously beautiful. I think if we were to ever see the Emerald Dream archetypified in the game, this must be how it will look. My hat's off to the machinimators who created this video.
Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an e-mail at machinima AT wow DOT com.
I just realized why everyone kept mentioning The Nutcracker, he didn't recognize it? Hehe. My 5 year old niece recognized that tune, they had an episode of Wonder Pets dedicated to the Nutcracker.
Are you so blinded by artists' names that seeing one you dislike automatically makes you reject and insult a creative work?
People rightly criticized that "Diamond Are A girl's Best Friend" because it was an atrocity.
THIS piece is very well done, the 2 minutes of ads were taken out, it brings attention to a current world problem, the video lets the performers do what they do best (your hated Gigi included), the picture is delightful, and the choice of music is pretty exciting for WoW rap machinima.
You can dislike someone but still appreciate their better work.
I'm not one of her fans, but neither am I one of those who see her name and automatically click "next". The girl's still finding her voice, so I listen.
I think that this one was interestingly twisty. The writer and machinimator (neither of whom were Gigi, if I recall the credits correctly*) managed to really capture the sense of being in a really disorienting dream. The half-seen things, the half-remembered clips of conversation and song, all there. Gigi's crisp and cutting voice, normally a detracting factor from her videos, helped her be really clear through the intentional chaos of the music and ambiance.
I can't say that I would watch this over and over again** but I can't say it was bad, and it's definitely interesting enough to watch through at least once.
*I'm writing this a day after I saw it over on Youtube **and indeed, I didn't watch it here.

It's arranged around Dance of the Sugar Plum Faeries from the Nutcracker, haha.

As its been said nutcracker suite. Mr. Gray I'm afraid you fail classical music theory forever.
Chukie Apr 12th 2010 12:20PM
Though that being said it is an excellent modern rendition of the piece.

Just when I thought anything Gigi-related couldn't get any more ridiculous.
Good grief.

I don't know what's worse: this video, or your shocking ignorance.

Zhuangzi AND Tchaikovsky in one video. Makes me wish the powers that be at WoW would do more with the emerald dream.

Please don't post any more gigi. Please Mr. Gray, please.
