MMO Roundup: Billing errors, FFXIV leaks and more
Sometimes you'd like to know that there are other MMOs out there, right? It's not all WoW, all the time! Our sister site Massively can provide you with everything you need to know about all of the other MMOs around: past, present and future.
Star Wars: The Old Republic reveals Voss The looks we've gotten inside the planets of Star Wars: The Old Republic paint a number of different pictures, but for most of them the conflict is fairly cut and dry. There are objectives for Imperial Sith forces or the Republic, but there haven't been things that are external to both forces. But Voss, the latest world revealed, is a bit different. There is already an intelligent species living there, and they face utter annihilation even as both the Empire and the Republic try to curry their favor.

Massively Speaking Episode 95: A chat with Perfect World Entertainment Massively Speaking, Massively's MMO podcast, returns this week with Sera, Rubi Bayer and special guests Jason Varden and Jonathan Belliss of Perfect World Entertainment. Discussions include the upcoming Battle of the Immortals and the general state of free-to-play games.

Alganon founder David Allen strikes back Derek Smart is famous for having the subtlety of an Imperial Walker, so it's only fair that we give the target of one of his laser-focused rants the chance to respond. In a press release over at PRWeb.com, Quest Online founder David Allen addresses his role in the development of the troubled MMORPG known as Alganon, as well as the fallout from the hiring of Smart and the events that led to Allen's departure.
Japanese leaks for Final Fantasy XIV Blizzard might be bad about unreleased content leaks, but they're not alone. Information about Final Fantasy XIV's alpha phase is coming out all over the place. While there's nothing world-shattering, the picture being painted is increasingly alluring, and it's hard to argue Final Fantasy XIV isn't learning a lot from its predecessor.

Billing issues hitting Warhammer Online and Dark Age of Camelot Many players of these two Mythic MMOs were erroneously being billed more than once for their subscriptions last week, sometimes for hundreds of dollars at one time. The customer service team at Mythic Entertainment was quick to explain that they were aware of the issue and working with their vendor to resolve it. Unfortunately, the official solution requires a call and a fair bit of time spent confirming and reversing the charges, rather than being a straight refund behind the scenes.

Former Ensemble staffer talks about canceled Halo MMO Here's a blast from the past for you: Halo MMO. The project from Ensemble studios -- codenamed Titan -- left a lot of disappointed fans when Ensemble closed and development was canceled. We've not heard much from that area for several months, but IncGamers got a chance today to speak to Dusty Monk for some new information on the now-defunct MMO.

That site looks kinda scary, as in if I was not running FF with noscript I think it would have infected me.
I'm paranoid though.

Voss looks cool. The yellow/orange-tinged atmosphere in the pics on TOR's site reminds me of Azshara. I'm saying nothing of them being similar beyond that, but I like that autumn feel both seem to have.

I heard about the Warhammer billing issues, and I really hope the players get a full refund, I mean, some of them lost more than $1000...
Banic Rhys Apr 13th 2010 1:35PM
One guy apparently lost over $800,000.

I guess Mythic are giving their customers the authentic Games Workshop experience, hur hur.

Well, the post I was replying to was deleted while I was typing. So please disregard my comment above.

They billed my hub 10 times and reimbursed every penny, including overdraft fees, yesterday. I'm still a bit irked about it all but they did make it right.

I am increasingly becoming torn about whether to play FF14 or Cataclysm (as both are likely to be coming out at roughly the same time).
Cataclysm looks so exciting. But so does FF14, and I used to love FF11.

EDIT: Oh god wait. Oh god seriously. I hadn't read the article yet, I just assumed it was something I had seen earlier this week.
There are going to be male mito'qe and female roegadyn this time around!
Oh god. Oh god. Oh god. I wanted to play a female Galka so bad in FF11.
This may be the the winning thing right here. Sorry Blizzard, I love ya mate, but if I can seriously play a female Roegadyn, I just, wow.
RogueJedi86 Apr 13th 2010 2:25PM
Well technically FFXI didn't have male Galka either. They were gender-neutral and bred through reincarnation. But I get what you mean. Roegadyn are completely different, so we could easily have female Roegadyn. And I'm hoping Square Enix doesn't pull the "females are common and males are rare and hidden in areas far from playable areas" crap that they pulled with both the Mithra in FFXI and Viera in FFXII. Give me some Miqo'te men!
I'm excited about FFXIV too. Besides TOR, it's the only other MMO I'm looking forward to. I say go with FFXIV, since it'll be completely new, as opposed to Cataclysm only being a little new.

anyone know if the battles system for ff is the same i hated it in the first one.
RogueJedi86 Apr 13th 2010 2:45PM
Suffice to say, the combat systems of FF games have advanced quite a bit from the first FF game,(Final Fantasy I). 20 years of technology moving on will do that.
That aside, I don't know if this will be that close to FFXI's or not. Apparently it'll be based a lot less on auto-attacking and more on using abilities, so that probably answers your FFXI complaint.
Ant Apr 13th 2010 3:57PM
Well, judging that this game is also going to be on the consoles again... probably be the same.
originalzombieslayer888 Apr 13th 2010 2:54PM
I just didn't like the whole menu thing to attack was werid to me.
Here is to this one being better.
Long live ff!
Binya Apr 13th 2010 5:36PM
Wow, the SE machine must be hard at work if my comment about the unauthorized live stream was deleted. The first rule of FFXIV is don't talk about FFXIV, I guess.
Alex Ziebart Apr 13th 2010 6:41PM
Actually, the first rule of FFXIV is don't link to squatted domains slathered in gold selling advertisements.
