Originally previewed at
BlizzCon 2009, the new collectible n00bz figures are now in the
Blizzard online store. These are small, customizable action figures that are available in either a blank version or in a variety of pre-painted models from
murlocs to
ghouls and even
Ragnaros himself. Blizzard has said they'll slowly be releasing more of these little guys as time goes on and has already offered a limited-edition n00b this past BlizzCon of
Raynor from
StarCraft.
So, check out the n00bz and send us your pictures of them in strange places, or grab some blank n00bz and paint up your own. If you're looking for some ideas,
here is a gallery of some custom n00bz that were on display at BlizzCon this past year.

So need to paint one to make it look like my Wind Rider Cub...
Jay Apr 13th 2010 9:43AM
I'd probably buy it if it came with an in-game pet like my wonderful wind-rider cub, but as it stands, it's rather meh.

Wut?
Barinthos Apr 13th 2010 10:01AM
I'd get one...but $25 is a bit pricey for a small vinyl figure. $15 and then we'll talk :P
Zayd Apr 13th 2010 10:06AM
What a huge waste of money.
Where can I get one?
Mr. Tastix Apr 13th 2010 11:07AM
Woot!
BigBadGooz Apr 13th 2010 11:28AM
*Blowes the dust off his that he got from blizzcon*.
Yeah still have mine
mcdingo Apr 13th 2010 11:50AM
Im not sure I get these things. So you pay a lot for them, then you have to paint it. But if you screw up once you just lost 25$. Also no matter what you paint its marine shaped. I just dont understand the desire for this product.

Some folks, myself included, enjoy the creativity required in painting it to our own specs. If you're not a crafty type, then it *is* kind of pointless to buy one, if you won't enjoy designing and finishing it.
Pro-tip too: it's just paint. If you screw up, you can paint over it.
Alan Falcon Apr 13th 2010 12:21PM
You didn't screw up, you just made a "Happy Mistake."
That's what I learned in the first grade, anyway.
Missescake Apr 13th 2010 12:49PM
Now that the store's back from maintainence, the pre-painted ones- Ghoul, Murloc, or Ragnaros- run $30 each, unpainted are $25. If you dig any of those designs, no art skills needed.

It's akin to those (like me) who play miniature wargames or like to paint figures for use in tabletop RPGs. We spend dozens/hundreds/thousands of dollars on little pieces of metal and plastic and then paint them certain funny colors. Why? Because it's cool...
For me, i wish these were cheaper because I just know I'm going to end up buying more than one and painting each one differently. One for me, one for my friend the Starcraft nut... Plus, mine could double as a custom titan when I play warhammer 40k!
And some quick tips for those who are going to paint one themselves:
- I find enamel paints can be painted over fairly easy with other enamels.
- Simple Green will eat most any acrylic paint without damaging the plastic underneath
- Always use a good primer. Krylon works wonders.
Happy painting!

Yeah, $25 is ridiculous. I'd rather go buy a Transformer or something.
mcdingo Apr 13th 2010 5:28PM
@ falcon- good Bob Ross reference.
@ Jim- ya I agree but those are smaller and not 25$ I mean I would understand many starcraft miniatures that are smaller then one big vinyl thing for the same price.
@cake I don't want to sound mean but a creative thing would be to make your own. That is a really simple shaped figure. I mean it looks as hard to reproduce as a lego man.
I don't know I just think big and smooth and cartoons fits warcraft more than starcraft. I would have prefered something marine shapped to be able to look more badass and tough when painted. I think its getting a bit rediculouse with all the baby stuff they are doing. Baby windrider is cute, baby marine that is...well cute but that seems to be against the point of marines.
JustPlainJim Apr 14th 2010 12:24AM
Believe me, if I spent as much on these guys as I have on Warhammer stuff, I could have an army. Believe me, I'm tempted.
I looked around and similar products (specifically "Munny"s) are going for about the same price for a similar-sized product.
I think it's just a matter of what you do and don't like. Personally, I saw these and the ideas just started flowing. I would have bought one sooner if I wasn't at work.
As for being creative.... Dude, look at some of the crap people have done with the Munnys I mentioned previously. Combine an art nerd with a toy nerd and you get some awesome stuff! Oh, here. I'll start you off: http://kidnotorious.deviantart.com/art/Munny-Rorshach-107017032

Further FYI (I need to stop posting before I've had my coffee), all of them are painted from the same base mold shape, the blank simply comes with a removable gun. It's listed as "Marine" because the noob folks recieved in their Blizzcon goodie bag was painted up as a Starcraft marine with gun, if memory serves.
In any case, I'll be ordering a blank come payday; I played around with a few potential sketches last year and want to try one out.

I love the Facehugger one. Very creative.
tfwagner2001 Apr 13th 2010 3:53PM
Having n00bz in the Blizzard store is better than the limited quantity that were only at Blizzcon 2009 and you had to look at eBay to purchase afterwards. I really expected to see these in the store sooner. As it turned out, the ones you could buy have been far more valuable than the thousands that were given away.
catharsis80 Apr 13th 2010 7:33PM
"Huggable" and "vinyl" totally go together. O.o

Oh jesus christ. People clearly have way too much money on their hands if this kind of crap actually sells.. They charge for every expansion. They charge a monthly fee. They also sell a useless WoW merchandise such as this, and vanity pets. Why? Blizzard, why? Are you really aiming to buy Jupiter? I can't see where else all your money must be going.
Why do I have a gripe with this? Some MMO's don't charge for expansions, some don't have monthly fees, and likely due to that, make only a fraction of money what Activsion-Blizzard does. They still have a game engine and graphics that has been updated once or twice over the years. Act-Bliz really do seem to love money, but why don't they actually do something with it to improve ours, the gamer's gaming experience? Fixing framerate lags for clearly powerful gaming PC's would be a start. Hell, rewriting the whole game engine might be in order about now. Really, please Blizzard. If you get people to buy these things, please, could you start actually improving your game? I hope Cataclysm does some of this, but for some reason m not holding my breath on that.
Inb4 people saying "if you don't want one, don't buy one." Wasn't planning to. Just wanted to rant how other developers seem to care about their customers a bit more for a lot less money. No, not quitting WoW yet - I'll see cata and what it brings and even if I do, I'll be following the happenings of the lore for a long time, and yes, I underdstand Act-Blizzard is a corporation that needs to make money, but I never understood how people still worship this company like an egyptian deity when it neglects it's userbase very thoroughly. Proper game engine would run better even on older computers, GM's/Customer Support seem to be never available, some very old feature request such as minor adds to character window to add for example a full name, for roleplayers to use, have not surfaced, when you think about their resources all this neglect makes one think. Makes me at least.
/Rant over.
