Official Cataclysm site updated (finally) with Mount Hyjal information

Just shy of seven months since the last update, the official Cataclysm site added a new feature section dedicated to the newly-reopened Mount Hyjal zone. Few pictures to be had in this update, but there's a ton of great info about Hyjal and what's in store for the night elves in Cataclysm as Ragnaros begins his siege against the World Tree.
New info from this preview:
New info from this preview:
- Ysera, Malfurion Stormrage, and Hamuul Runetotem lead the charge against the Twilight's Hammer cult, the black dragonflight, and Ragnaros' army of fire elementals.
- "Players will be able to enter Hyjal by way of Moonglade, to take on a series of high-stakes quests in a historic location alongside some of Azeroth's most renowned heroes."
- Players must seek the help of the Ancients to save Hyjal due to fractured night elf leadership.
- New faction: Guardians of Hyjal. They seek to resurrect many of the night elf gods and goddesses slain during the War of the Ancients, including Aviana, goddess of the air.
- Malorne has been spotted!

Just when I was getting exited about cata being the Shaman expansion here comes the news that Druids will be hugging all the attention.
*go sit on a corner to wait for the ultimate destruction of all totems*

Ok, I don't want to be a total emo shammy. It all sounds awesome and cool. For someone that never made it to MH back in BC, I'm really exited. Meeting Malfurion is going to be awesome too.
I just feel a bit sad cause the day of the shaman is no where in sight. Hope Thrall gets to cast hes doom hammer before getting stun locked.

Every expansion is actually a Rogue expansion, we just don't let you guys know what's going on.
Jonathan Apr 13th 2010 7:16PM
This is an expansion focusing primarily on the elemental planes, the Shamans' bread and butter. I'm reasonably sure you'll get your due.
Druids are getting one zone focused on them when a lot of early indications seemed that we might be the focus of the expansion when everyone was convinced it'd be Emerald Dream. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

What do druids watch over? Nature. So yeah, it'd be a travesty if they didn't have any part to play in all this.
I mean, really. :-/
trefpoid Apr 13th 2010 7:35PM
dude, it's the World Tree, right in the nelfs backyard. Druids are supposed to preserve nature and save their beloved Tree, it's only logical that a druid faction protects it. Malfurion is also there, so it's bound to be full with treehuggers.. but that's just a part of the whole world.. I'm pretty sure shammies are going to be pretty busy, specially since the greatest one of them all had to leave his throne in Orgrimmar to go save the world :D

If they make the Earthen Ring a faction you can actually gain reputation with, I'll be very pleased and impressed.

As someone who primarily plays a druid this is very exciting. The lore surround the druid class is just so beautiful and of course very fitting to play a large role in Cataclysm. Hyjal itself is just so epic. I remember being new to the game and wondering why I couldn't get to that area on the map lol.

I would expect Shamans will have more than enough going on; quests to rebalance the elemental forces that have gone awry in x zone and so forth. Although with Thrall being kind of AWOL form the Horde, its unclear if he's going to actually be *around* until the actual fight against Deathwing kicks in. Have to wait and see I guess.
I very much like the sound of Hyjal, sounds like a good zone with lots of logical progression, which is extra good since all new characters will have a nice long zone to level up through. And the Druid stuff should actually be cool, they're not going to be hanging around being pompous as usual, they're actually going to do kickass things. Hence Malfusion Stromrage.

Stay out of my moonglade!
Rapskallion Apr 13th 2010 6:33PM
Gladly. Dirty hippies the whole lot of them up there.
Seriously... why Moonglade? Why not Winterspring (where there is already a closed route to Hyjal) or Felwood? Moonglade makes is seem like they are going to make it a teleported entrance to the zone.
Arbolamante Apr 13th 2010 6:51PM
Hey, Moonglade teleport just got a lot more valuable. Nice. (Though still hoping for an Emerald Dream expansion.)
LenteP Apr 13th 2010 6:53PM
I wouldn't worry to much yet Rapskallion, don't forget that they're remaking Azeroth a great deal. Feels more like that they'll just make way for a road/tunnel/something over putting in a teleport... that said, also don't forget we'll be able to fly in Azeroth... :)

The Earthmother is near... Maaaan.
Kylenne Apr 13th 2010 8:15PM
Dude. When the Trolls show up? It's gonna smell like a Phish concert up in there.
thawedtheorc Apr 14th 2010 11:22PM
"Seriously... why Moonglade?"
Because the Druids defend the access to the World Tree

/manly SQUEEEE for Malfurion in-game
Come on, it's MALFURION STORMRAGE!
Muse Apr 13th 2010 6:45PM
Very much Malfurion. And with Malfurion being like, back and all that, and taking the Stormrage book into account...
...why do the Night Elves *still* have fractured leadership?
Kylenne Apr 13th 2010 6:56PM
There was a Stormrage book?
/plugs fingers in ears
Clydtsdk-Rivendare Apr 13th 2010 7:30PM
I just imagined the PowerThirst guy (or Saurfang, same diff) yelling "SQUEEEEEEEEEEE".
You may have just made my day.
