WoW Moviewatch: The Legend of the Sister Blade
This movie is based entirely on in-game lore, recounted by a blood elf named Melvenor. This movie is absolutely gorgeous and incredibly compelling. I'm very familiar with the story of the Sister Blade, but Melvenor kept the story fresh and inviting. Even using a few files directly from the quest line, The Legend of Sister Blade felt entirely original. Melvenor did a great job narrating his original script, and conveyed the emotion and events without sounding melodramatic or overwrought. He was also truthful and loyal to WoW's lore, which means this is a great video for folks looking for exposure to the backstory of the game.
I am continuously impressed by Melvenor. As a small note, you might recognize the song -- it's Katethegreat's rendition of the Lament of the Highborne. That makes me love Melvenor's work even more, since he's using fan art to create new fan art.

Ohhhh...Yes, for a story i've heard many times before it was beautifully done. I played it expecting to watch a little and come back later, but i ended up sitting here and watching the whole thing in one go, it was incredibly well done, beautiful work. Definately. He told it in a way that would bring in someone that isn't even interested in WoW. absolutely wonderful!

That was just breathtaking. I even cried a bit. Lana'thel's fate is truly horrible.

Amazing story telling. Melvenor does a really good job crafting his movie. It's a cut above the normal. I enjoyed it.

If it weren't for the guy's horribly inappropriate voice, it would be great. That is the one thing that causes it to feel so amateur.

I kind of agree.
I don't actually know what's wrong with the voice, either. It's not bad, it just somehow doesn't feel right. The script, music and visuals are all extremely well done though.

He sounds like wowcrendor.
Banic Rhys Apr 13th 2010 2:03PM
Except if it was WoWcrendor this would be the most epic thing ever.

If there's one thing I resist with all my powers is negatively critiquing voice acting. Its an incredibly difficult thing that takes practice and training to get down well.
Therefore, in the attitude of "if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything" I have merely say I disagree with the assessment of the narration. The visuals, however, were EXCELLENT. You almost could understand that whole story without it being explained to you at all and it grabbed your attention to the very end.
Very nicely done movie

It's hard to write a novel; that doesn't mean that I can't criticise poorly-written ones.

dang.. now that was excellently done!

I think it was generally really good. :-) I don't follow lore much myself (I know, I know. x.x), but now that I know the story, I think it's pretty hilarious how the sword has ended up as an almost easily obtainable epic. >.>
Anyways, back to the story. I did really enjoy it, though I felt the narration was a bit off at times, was still good. :-)

Brilliant use of in game music, fantastic visuals.
Unfortunately, the voice acting hinders the brilliance of this machinima, however every voice apart from the main narrator's was up to par.
I agree with wkennaway.

This is not new.

But it is awesome.

Wasn't this posted like a week ago?

I think it was put in one of the "know your lore" articles if I recall correctly. I believe Anne did it to easily summarize that part. I don't think it was posted in Moviewatch.
Anne Stickney Apr 13th 2010 4:51PM
I used it in the KYL for Blood Elf politics ( http://www.wow.com/2010/04/03/know-your-lore-current-horde-politics-the-blood-elves/ ), because it is a gorgeous summary of a pretty important questline.
But I poked Michael Gray about it too. I was hoping he would give me his puppy for the information, but no dice.
Someday, the puppy will be MINE...
