"However, it appears that they are not against exchanging useful in-game items for real money."
Useful is a relative term, it will only go as fast and have as many capabilities (ie flying) as mounts you already have. You cannot upgrade to 310% flying with it. Other than the looks, you gain nothing from it. This is exactly the same as the pets; merely cosmetic.

Agreed. I don't see this as anything more than a "pimp my steed" purchase. I think if they were going to sell epic weapons or gear, then it would be an issue.

This is exactly what I was going to say. The only "use" this item provides is the miniscule amount of gold you'll save on buying mounts for your alts. You still need to buy the riding skills, you still need to raid hardmodes or PvP your way to an arena drake or spend a year grinding seasonal achievements to get 310% speed with it. If anything, the Celestial Steed is more like a BoA mount than anything else, and when half the alts in the Barrens are riding one around, they're going to look about as special as well-lit dirt.
I have no problem with other people buying one. It gives no in-game advantage, and it gives Blizzard more money to do neat things with for us. But I don't plan on picking one up myself; with those stubby little legs, it looks more like a Celestial Dachshund than a noble steed. Me, I'll stick to my talbuks!

Well, it does save a little gold on mounts for alts (not much though). Since this is for every toon you have on this account, everyone gets it. That means when my latest alt hits 60, I only shell out for the flight training, and not the mount :) plus it looks cool as hell with Starshard Edge :)

It is a little more useful than you think... if you use a lot of spells it frees up a spot (you use 2 spots, one for flying and one for regular), just like headless horseman's mount. In other words, you are buying a smart mount.
GrumblyStuff Apr 15th 2010 4:57PM
Well... there is some use from it. It is a mount after all. It moves the needle just a hair in what's acceptable and what isn't. I consider the RAF mount to be in the same boat.
MasterAsh Apr 15th 2010 3:03PM
I won't vote until I know how fast it is.
MasterAsh Apr 15th 2010 3:05PM
Okay, only 310% if you have a 310%. Fine by me, especially since for me it's like I'm paying $25 to reskin my Violet Protodrake.
kyle.blackburn Apr 15th 2010 3:06PM
Scales to your riding skill and if you have a 310% it matches it.
Jack Apr 15th 2010 3:06PM
It is as fast as your fastest existing Mount.
Barinthos Apr 15th 2010 3:06PM
It scales in speed depending on your fastest mount and level.

"this supernatural warhorse will fly as fast as your riding skill will take you, and it will travel at 310% speed if you have at least one other 310% mount. "
This is from the blizzard store

"this supernatural warhorse will fly as fast as your riding skill will take you..."
Suppose you don't have flying yet. Will it be unusable or will it downgrade itself to, say.... a basic 60% land mount?
Thius Apr 15th 2010 3:04PM
I was the first Okay vote, what do I win!?!? Oh yeah... a shiny new pony!
rainbowblack Apr 15th 2010 3:06PM
I knew it would only be a matter of time before Activision started making their presence felt
OUCH!
28K people are in queue to buy this. at least they are limited quantities otherwise every tom dick and xXxClOuDsTrIfExXx would be running around on this thing
Liz D Apr 15th 2010 3:05PM
It is a vanity pet that happens to fly. It will be insanely common (considering the queues, almost everyone and their brother is getting one) yet I believe the hard-to-acquire mounts (Violet Protodrake and Headless Horseman's mount) will still retain their unique luster and respect for the work or luck involved in their acquisition.
I was one of the first to grab a Celestial Mount, the moment I heard the store was open. (I had no queue at all.) It's incredibly gorgeous. I don't regret spending $25 for all my toons to have the pony GC promised us.
Tokkar Apr 15th 2010 3:06PM
Vanity pets? Sure.
Mounts?
I'm sorry, I can't get behind their decision to make this one for sale from their online store. Why? Because this is an awesome looking mount!
You're not following me? Okay, here's the scenario:
This is an awesome looking mount! Well, at least it WAS...now so many people are going to be riding around on them that it will become a "ho-hum...yay...another celestial steed" thing as you see the 30th one ride by in Orgrimmar within 3 minutes.
Way to ruin a nice mount, Blizzard.
Barinthos Apr 15th 2010 3:08PM
That doesn't make sense. The coolness of an item isn't determined by how many people have it or not have it, it's determined by how it looks. And i'm not alone in saying that it's pretty damn cool.
Tokkar Apr 15th 2010 3:10PM
I'll admit, it's cool. But I thought the deathcharger was cool as well. It's since worn off.
Brian Apr 15th 2010 3:11PM
The fact that every current and future toon will get this mount is the reason why I am in queue to buy this. It's an investment that will last you for life.... of WoW.
