The Queue: Video unrelated
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today.
The above video has nothing to do with WoW or The Queue, it's just damn funny.
Finiks asked:
"Any word on when we can expect the new Recruit-a-Friend mount to be available?"
Soon, that's all we know.
Aubie asked:
"How's that cross-faction mail possibility coming? I gots all my good toons on the Alli side and my Goblin's gonna need some heirlooms."
You can send heirloom items cross-faction now. However you cannot send gold or regular items. It's unlikely Blizzard will allow that level of cross-faction mailing. Instead, you'll need to transfer the items using the neutral auction house. And before someone asks, Zarhym recently said that cross-server heirloom mailing is on the list of features they want, but that they don't have a timeframe for it and it's not for sure going to be in Cataclysm.
Atdt1991 asked:
"Are they actually going to make fishing less boring?"
Yes. Blizzard has said a few times a major fishing revamp is on the docket for Cataclysm.
A couple people have commented before:
"Slow news day, eh?"
I love when we see this comment on the site.
WoW.com is a multidisciplinary site. We cover news, analysis, and opinion. There are some sites that mainly cover just news (MMO-Champion), some that mainly analyze (TankSpot), and some that mainly give opinions (a lot of the blogs and user communities). WoW.com is everything. While posting news is a top priority of the site, WoW news doesn't happen every day. Even though WoW is the largest game out there, Blizzard doesn't produce news on a 24 hour cycle; but we can produce other content like that.
So yes, some days, like yesterday, are slow news days. But that doesn't mean we're going to stop delivering content. Our staff is on a deadline schedule for their columns, and are free to write other material as it comes up. If you're here just for the breaking news, then you can check the "Breaking News" sidebar right at the top of the page. Everyone can be happy and live in harmony at WoW.com, just like in the game.

Slow news day, eh?
foust117 Apr 20th 2010 1:13PM
More like a slow maintenance day. The real question is since everything is slowing down, are we at the eye of the storm before Blizzard announces the beta?
Malkavos Apr 20th 2010 1:16PM
I kind of think we'll see Ruby Sanctum and the Gnomeregan / Echo Isles events happen before the beta hits. My thinking is that we'll see those in a month or two, Cataclysm Beta will begin sometime this summer, and we'll see release around October/November. Could be wrong though, and certainly wouldn't mind seeing it sooner.

Here is a question I'd like to see answered or talked about other than the peeps who troll comments.
"Any word on to what the Collectors edition of Cata will have? I have a pre-order for it already because i heard they were giving rockets and star bases and...oh wait...wrong game. But still, Will it be a pet, sound track and something else cool? Or something small like a mat or cloth thingy?"
Wulfkin Apr 21st 2010 3:57AM
Well a unique pet and a soundtrack cd are both pretty much guranteed, they've been in the previous editions. An artwork book and a mousepase are also pretty likely.
Now as for what else, Blizzard have said nothing, and likely won't until just before release. I just hope the pet is something cool, like a mini-Ragnaros!

Will places like Gilneas be available to other races in Cataclysm, also, will they function as towns and stuff or for one time, one race staging zones? I'm really worried because it seems like they could've done a lot for those.
Malkavos Apr 20th 2010 1:11PM
From the sound of the storyline, the earliest parts of the Goblin and Worgen Starting zones are going to be a one time deal, but it would be pretty cool if there was some mechanism to show your character what happened, a la talking to Alexsastra at the wrathgate. Maybe speak to some npc and get a chance to relive the "good old days" before the whole cataclysm thing.
tatsumasa Apr 20th 2010 3:39PM
is the dk starting area available to players who don't have wrath? yes, because the events that take place in the starting area take place in the past. when you go there in the present, the town is obliterated, but it's still there.
not to be a dick (inc downvote) but i would be surprised if the new starting zones aren't phased in a way that you can't leave them until you play through to a certain part of the story-line and i don't understand why this sort of common-sense thinking isn't applied by people who ask these types of questions every single day.
Babaloo Apr 20th 2010 3:58PM
The reason I was asking, you ass, was because why would they add a Worgen area to Stormwind if they had their own town? And yes, I understand how phasing works, so before you start jumping to conclusions, stop and think as to why someone's asking the question. From what we've seen so far, it doesn't seem likely that we'll get to go back to the zones, and the DK zone is completely different in terms of what happens there when compared to Cataclysm's starting zones. What about the Goblin starting zone? Does it seem likely that you'll be able to go back to there? No, if so, why? It's blatantly obvious that they'll make you go through some phasing related quests or whatever before leaving, so don't just assume someone's stupid and doesn't use their common sense. It's a rather valid question, so I don't know why you immediately assume that it's obvious what the answer to it is.
Hanak Apr 20th 2010 5:39PM
It's been said numerous times that the worgen starting zone, aka Gilneas, will be an ordinary battleground for everyone not currently lvling through the first (phased) levels. I presume that puts it in the same category as Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and others in regards to visiting on a whim. (as in NOT possible)
Argojax Apr 20th 2010 7:04PM
@tatsumasa: the difference potentially between rhe starting area of a new class and a new race is that one, potentially, has a reputation faction joined to it that isn't tied to the new content. For instance if my Tauren alt wanted to get exalted with the trolls he could go to Sen'jin Village and do the starter quests for rep. If there's a new Goblin rep faction it is valid to ask if we'll still have that ability and if not what will be implemented to allow the achievement of Goblen rep by current max level chars who wouldn't be redoing old world content. In contrast the KotEB rep could be gained by non-DKs through normal gameplay. There are other ramifications on questing and exploration achievements as well that are all valid areas of inquiry.
icepyro Apr 20th 2010 7:25PM
Is silvermoon city available to those without BC?
No. It isn't.
I think that makes this a fairly valid question.
The difference here is that iirc, the dk starting area did exist pre-wrath, but I could be mistaken? While the new starting zones are in fact completely zoned with loading screen and all. The goblin/worgen starting zones don't exist in game, so phasing isn't so much an option as this method.
Speaking of, with new maps et al, are they still going to cut off those areas with portals or will I be able to safely see beyond the borders finally?
