The Queue: Goblins and worgen

Whoa, Cataclysm questions that we might be able to answer? No way! I'm in shock. Truly. Look at the shock on my face. Do you see it? Yeah, pretty sweet, I know.
Babaloo asked:
"Will places like Gilneas be available to other races in Cataclysm, also, will they function as towns and stuff or for one time, one race staging zones? I'm really worried because it seems like they could've done a lot for those."
So far it sounds like Gilneas is going to be primarily used as a starting zone and then a battleground after that. Unless I'm horribly mistaken, they haven't said anything about us getting new capital cities at Gilneas and Kezan. You'll do the starter quests and then you'll move on. Hopefully this analogy isn't totally useless, but picture it as the draenei starting zone except Exodar is a battleground instead of a city with an auction house and that whole bit.
Andostre asked:
"Do we know what the goblin and worgen racial mounts are going to be?"
Goblins are getting some sort of hot rod roadster. Like a Formula 1 racer except smaller, crappier and a goblin made it so it's probably going to explode. Worgen? From the concept art we've seen, they ride some kind of bizarre abyssal pig or something. Personally, I think they should just ride horses since they were originally human. I suppose that would be pretty boring though, they need something original. So they get to ride some absurd thing the Cataclysm coughed up from the bowels of the planet.

"Mage? Or Warlock?"
Shadow priest.
KJP asked:
"What happened to the mobile version of WoW.com?"
It's still there. If you're not seeing it, that's most likely because you hit the link choosing to click through to the full site once upon a time. When you do that, it tells your phone to remember that you did so, and it will always take you to the full site so you don't need to click through every time. It assumes you prefer not seeing the mobile site. Yeah, it's pretty wonky, but the alternative is you need to make that choice every time you switch pages. So it's annoying for some one way, annoying for others the other way. If you clear your cookies on you mobile device it'll go back to the way it was.
No promises, but we may have an iPhone app coming sometime in the future so this isn't even a concern. Don't expect it tomorrow, don't expect it next week. Don't expect it next month. Don't weep if it never happens. It probably will though.
Eldoron asked:
"Are there seriously people who want to roll a goblin? I mean, of course I cannot understand gnomes either, but goblins, really?"
Uh, yeah? Of course I'm rolling a goblin. This world clearly needs a sultry female goblin technomage in it.
Yeah. That's right. I used the world sultry to describe a goblin. You have a problem with that?

Are worgen going to have a British Accent?
IF NOT WHY NOT
Faerillis Apr 21st 2010 3:14PM
They won't because they use Gothic (as in not Victorian) architecture and even their race sounds Germanic. Ergo burly German voice FTW

British accents would rock.

I think you mean English. British could mean either Scottish, Welsh, Irish or English =P

Except that Gothic Architecture was eventually common throughout all of Western Europe. Also, the Draenei already have eastern European accents. Plus the appearance they're giving Gilneas is more akin to Sweeney Todd than The Brother's Grimm (the movie not the authors).

Turpster gets my vote for ALL of the worgen voices. It might even convince me to turn my sound on
Hollow Leviathan Apr 21st 2010 3:54PM
I'd say Romanian if the Draenei weren't already Russian.
redrum Apr 21st 2010 3:57PM
Gothic architecture is actually French. I'm sure there's an "American Werewolves in Paris" joke here somewhere.
Moonkinmaniac Apr 21st 2010 3:57PM
I say give the worgens vampire accents to mess with twilight fans heads.
Samutz Apr 21st 2010 3:59PM
They're wolves. I imagine they're going to growl and snarl.
I keep imagining Genn Greymane having a voice that's a bit of a cross between Rexxar and Carine Bloodhoof in WC3.

@ Darkleeroy
I fail to see how Draenei having an Eastern European accent is any more relevant to Worgen getting Germanic accents than Humans having an American accent is to Worgen getting British accents. See Germany can be classified as Northern or Western European, it cannot however be considered Eastern European. The accents are extremely different especially the kind I am thinking of, the typically heavy on consonants and extremely cacophonous
Also while it may be true that Gothic architecture spread through most of Europe on the British Isles it was blended into Victorian style. Also Gilneas is rather the point-of-origin of this architecture, once more Germanic.

You think Russian? I was thinking more Latvi-eston-bania-roation. With some Balki Bartokomous thrown in.
BigBadGooz Apr 21st 2010 4:11PM
ever roll a dranie guess what they sound like
Elmo Apr 21st 2010 5:11PM
Draenei are not Russian they're Indian (from India)
it's obvious: Elephants, the Tunak Tunak Tun Dance, Bellydancing females...
zweitblom Apr 21st 2010 5:18PM
No, Draenei are modelled after Ashkenazi Jews (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashkenazi_Jews): they consider themselves a Chosen People, they have fled the Holocaust of their race in a ship, and some Draenei NPCs even have names from the Old Testament (Ezekiel, for example).

"I think you mean English. British could mean either Scottish, Welsh, Irish or English =P"
You should try calling someone who's Irish or Scottish British and see what happens

@faerillis
the gothic period of art centered around 1100-1500 a.d., victorian didn't come about till the reign of queen victoria, in the mid 1800s. english gothic started a few years after the french, just like most of the rest of europe, but not so late as to mix with victorian. salisbury cathedral is one of the primary examples of gothic architecture in europe, alongside chartres and notre dame de paris. it may be that you are thinking of the gothic revival period that was and is still rather popular
Ragen Apr 21st 2010 6:31PM
No offense to those comparing architecture, but I'm sure the floating crystals of the Draenei did not hint of their accent.
I've always considered German to be more of a gruff (in a postive way) language than most European languages. It would also be a fitting accent.
Volkrin Apr 21st 2010 7:13PM
Seeing as Lorderoneans had generic NA accents, and Stormwinders have generic NA accents, and indeed, from the voices on many BElf NPCs they have generic NA accents too, it'll probably be the same with Gilneas. Really the only groups native to the Eastern Kingdoms that don't have that generic NA accent are the Dwarves, Trolls, Kobolds, and Gnolls, and I'm not even sure about the second two.
