The Queue: Goblins and worgen

Whoa, Cataclysm questions that we might be able to answer? No way! I'm in shock. Truly. Look at the shock on my face. Do you see it? Yeah, pretty sweet, I know.
Babaloo asked:
"Will places like Gilneas be available to other races in Cataclysm, also, will they function as towns and stuff or for one time, one race staging zones? I'm really worried because it seems like they could've done a lot for those."
So far it sounds like Gilneas is going to be primarily used as a starting zone and then a battleground after that. Unless I'm horribly mistaken, they haven't said anything about us getting new capital cities at Gilneas and Kezan. You'll do the starter quests and then you'll move on. Hopefully this analogy isn't totally useless, but picture it as the draenei starting zone except Exodar is a battleground instead of a city with an auction house and that whole bit.
Andostre asked:
"Do we know what the goblin and worgen racial mounts are going to be?"
Goblins are getting some sort of hot rod roadster. Like a Formula 1 racer except smaller, crappier and a goblin made it so it's probably going to explode. Worgen? From the concept art we've seen, they ride some kind of bizarre abyssal pig or something. Personally, I think they should just ride horses since they were originally human. I suppose that would be pretty boring though, they need something original. So they get to ride some absurd thing the Cataclysm coughed up from the bowels of the planet.

"Mage? Or Warlock?"
Shadow priest.
KJP asked:
"What happened to the mobile version of WoW.com?"
It's still there. If you're not seeing it, that's most likely because you hit the link choosing to click through to the full site once upon a time. When you do that, it tells your phone to remember that you did so, and it will always take you to the full site so you don't need to click through every time. It assumes you prefer not seeing the mobile site. Yeah, it's pretty wonky, but the alternative is you need to make that choice every time you switch pages. So it's annoying for some one way, annoying for others the other way. If you clear your cookies on you mobile device it'll go back to the way it was.
No promises, but we may have an iPhone app coming sometime in the future so this isn't even a concern. Don't expect it tomorrow, don't expect it next week. Don't expect it next month. Don't weep if it never happens. It probably will though.
Eldoron asked:
"Are there seriously people who want to roll a goblin? I mean, of course I cannot understand gnomes either, but goblins, really?"
Uh, yeah? Of course I'm rolling a goblin. This world clearly needs a sultry female goblin technomage in it.
Yeah. That's right. I used the world sultry to describe a goblin. You have a problem with that?

That thing he's on *might* have started as a horse. It appears to have hooves at least.
Brandon Apr 21st 2010 3:19PM
My original thought was that it was some sort of boar that was afflicted with the same curse as the Worgen themselves.

It's Manbearpig!!

Actually, the original Worgen were from another dimension. The Gilnean Worgen did come from humans being turned into worgen, but I think it's likely that they're potentially using the mounts that the other-dimensional worgen came into azeroth on...maybe, who knows. :P
Eldoron Apr 21st 2010 3:34PM
To the last commenter: Worgen come from a different TIME, they were native on Kalimdor at some point. That is why it says in the Cataclysm intro that "an ancient ally resurfaces to bring the savage Worgen into the Alliance". And you see the Night Elves on the screen.

@Eldoron:
I'm sorry, but rogues of any race can barely vanish properly at the moment. I can't see any race prior to our current ones being able of time travel.

@Brandon - I agree; that's what I always thought, at least.
And, I don't know. I would honestly rather not have another race that uses some type of horse mount. Humans have tons of horses and there are other horses in the game, as well. I'd rather see something new and different for the Alliance. and, I like that the Worgen mount, as seen in the picture above, seems pretty ferocious. I like that it's darker than the other Alliance mounts that are currently in the game. It shakes things up a bit.

The HUMANS of Gilneas are the ancient ally... the worgen came from another dimension, summoned by Arugal and Velinde Starsong to fight the scourge and demons.
leoaguiar Apr 21st 2010 5:58PM
to me there are two possibilities:
1 - The mount comes from the other dimension and belongs to the originals worgens, as stated above
2 - SUPER UBER WEREHOUNDS, basically dogs that got mutated by the same thing that mutated the humans into worgen

Or, you know, the Worgen mount pictures above could be a species that is unique to the Gilnean peninsula. Perhaps they are simply better suited mounts/work animals in Gilneas than horses are due to terrain and weather conditions. They do appear fairly tough and rugged. I also can't picture these things actually FLEEING from predators, so maybe the Gilneas just became fond of them after seeing them bowl through packs of rampaging worgen before they developed a cure. Or maybe worgen who haven't been "cured" think horse meat is almost as tasty as humans, so they had to come up with a different mount after horses became extinct. =P Who knows!
Honestly, we don't even know for sure that these will be the racial mounts. There's only the one concept art for each that we've seen, and they were released way back at Blizzcon last year. It's possible (and certainly not unusual) for there to be numerous different concepts drawn out (some drastically different) before a final one is decided upon and fleshed out. Although, I do kind of hope the Worgen mount turns out like this. It's pretty cool looking,

Worgens should ride Moonkins!

The Industrial Revolution is coming to Azeroth!!
oo, and if stove-pipe hats (http://lincoln200.delaware.gov/images/photos/23_LincolnsStovePipeHat.jpg) drop from some mobs in the Gilneas region, I will be onto a RP server henceforth :D
Frank Apr 21st 2010 3:39PM
i SO want stovepipe hats, or bowlers. /crossing fingers!

In addition to an iPhone app, is it possible we will see one for the Droid?
wdm+hall Apr 21st 2010 3:12PM
If you've ever felt the shame of being ganked by a female gnome then you'll likely consider rolling a female goblin.
ChocoMuffin Apr 21st 2010 3:17PM
""Mage? Or Warlock?"
Shadow priest."
Right answer!

Agreed!

I literally cheered when you said that.

I have to assume Worgen will have their own capital, and here's my logic.
If they only get to do their starter quests there, and the entirety of Gilneas is like the "starter area of the starter zone" for other races (Shadowglen, Valley of Trials, Northshire Abbey), then Blizzard has to come up with some lame-ass way they get teleported to a capital city around level 8-10, and "logical" reason for doing so. (The closest capital currently is Ironforge, several zones away.)
It would make more sense for Blizzard to design a mini-capital, a medium-sized town plus the bank, AH and all the trainers, that actually serves their needs in the same way everyone else's are, than have their new featured content both missing key features *and* awkwardly disconnected from all other friendly areas in an unprecedented way.
Succulent Apr 21st 2010 3:42PM
I'd take the Death Knight starter zone as an example of what they might possibly do.
Death Knights start in that area, but it's not a city either. You eventually head down into the main cities.
It's entirely possible they'll give a portal or flight path or something to send the Worgen to a capital city.
