Breakfast Topic: 101 things to do before the world dies

Then Slorkuz chimed in with the following:

The old world is changing forever. Let's compile a list of things to do before the end.
1) Play through all the starter zones, to give some idea if each race's lore.

Visit the Shimmering Flats!
We already know that Thousand Needles is going to be mostly underwater in Cataclysm, but it was another nudge to the realization that the world we know is going bye-bye forever. Right now, my personal "bucket list" includes doing the dungeon set 2 quest line, but I'd love to hear from other players on how they're approaching the "end of the world."

Although one of the things I can't do (Staff of Atiesh), the other is get one entire tier set. I am already 4/8 T2 so my goal is to finish the set.

I've been playing since day one of retail, pretty much on a regular basis. I've seen enough of the Old World ten times over, so I'm quite ready to see it go.

Finish Loremaster and The Seeker...for Loremaster I've got Kalimdor and Outland left. About 500 quests for The Seeker. I definitely want to see as much as I can of the old world, since I only started playing about a year ago, so I haven't leveled tons of alts through the different zones.
Finish the Scepter chain. I need the red shard (clearing BWL again), and 7 elementium ore to get to the last stage of the blue shard.
I want to see a few selected Alliance areas, I've only got some low toons on another server. I know that Duskwood is a must-see.
As far as rep grinds, I'm revered with Hydraxian Waterlords and Brood of Nozdormu...but I really only care about the Brood. If the those elementals on some forsaken rock in Azshara did more than give you a quest...maybe. I'd like to get the Diplomat though...so back to grinding Timbermaw.

On my main I'm pretty close to all the old world achievements. I still need exalted with Brood of Nozdormu (only honored) and Hydraxian Waterlords (about a third of the way into revered). (Yes, I have Insane in the Membrane. Yes, I'm insane.) I'd like to finish the dungeon set 2, but I'm stalled on the part that requires killing a Duke of Cynders. I haven't bothered yet farming all the stuff I need to summon him specifically. As for the AQ scepter quest, I still need 10 elementium ore. Ouch. (The other materials too, but that's by far the hardest part.)
I plan to get one or two of those (exalted with one of the factions, or the dungeon quest chain, or the scepter quest chain) done before Cataclysm hits, but as for all of them, meh, close enough.
I have a warrior who I'm keeping at 60, but there's absolutely no way he's getting more than a few of the major old world achievements. If I finally take him to UBRS (it's harder to find a group to finish that place than it is to finish MC) and the Breastplate of Valor just happens to drop I'll shed a tear because there's no way I'll finish the dungeon set quest line on him, not in less than a year. Still though, he's got a few pieces of T1 and can probably get Loremaster of EK and Kalimdor a few raid achievements before the Cataclysm hits, that alone is pretty damn cool.

I recommend that everyone that hasn't been to the Room of Upside Down Sinners go visit it now, the mysterious place might be gone when Cata hits =[
Lemons Apr 23rd 2010 3:36PM
I just want to run all the old raids on the offchance they get Cataclysm'd. I do not want to miss out on the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj...I've done temple and it was awesome and now I just gotta do the ruins portion.
Master Apr 23rd 2010 4:13PM
I'm doing the quest line for the Winterspring Frostsaber. It's pretty grindtastic, but the cool thing is that you can do it more than once a day. I recommend bringing a friend or doing it when your guild is on so you don't get bored out of your skull.

Do the Raene's Cleansing quest in Ashenvale to get the Furbolg Stick!!
jeanericuser001 Apr 23rd 2010 4:53PM
My bucket list:
1. Gliding fun at thousand needles
2. Join the race at the vs goblins vs gnomes race at shimmering flats
3. Sob at Mankirk's wife then wish her a happy cremation
4. Tame a ghost kodo in desolace since that may possibly get changed
5. Defend camp Taurajo one more time from ally attack before its destroyed
6. Do a noob speed run with my hunter and warlock pet running hog wild
7. Visit the giant dump gardens at azshara
8. Take a pick of me waiting for the hyjal entrance portal at winterspring to open up
9. Do a horde hunter streaking nude run through darkshore and head to get a kurken pet and ghost sabre cat
10. Goto southshore as an ally noob and start cursing about the end of days for the outpost
And that I intend to do on the last few days before they make the big change.

With my new-and-improved Pally, I will cut rep gain at lv60, so that I can run the Old World raids, especially Nefarian, so that I may get full Judgment Armor. I will keep grinding Blackwing Lair until I at least get Draconic Avenger if not Ashkandi, because it's an axe with dragons on it and I love dragons to death. I don't care how nerfed the encounters have become due to the lv 70 and 80 people lending a helping hand, a raid is still a raid, dammit!
As for the AQ raids, considering how much people tend to hate them so it takes forever to put together a raiding party (Molten Core and BWL seem to be far more popular by comparison), I think I'll actually keep C'Thun on hold until I get to Northrend, so that I may take down C'Thun and then Yogg-Saron in an Old Gods storyline of sorts.
Aloix Apr 23rd 2010 7:42PM
It surprises me that ppl wouldnt want to do AQ40. I would in a heartbeat, partly for nostalgia (in vanilla the guild I was in stopped @ Huhu) and partly for rep!
People of course though are so all over the place with focus, you need to find a handful of ppl who are interested in doing it. If not now, make a plan with your guildmates maybe to add it to some future thing?

Same story for me, most people I met when I made a horde toon was friendly and nice. Until I mentioned I mainly play Alliance. Three different servers and I had comments ranging from:"Lol Ally noob. Re-roll a real fraction!" to, /spit and teabag spam, armory insults, and one guy wanted told me he was reporting harassment... :S Maybe because the orc I made was naked and took it as an vague insult, but I always level new characters to lvl 15 naked anyway.
I have several alts, and know the Alliance on my server are jerks, maybe one day I'll level a horde past 24 and see how many jerks they have too.
Aloix Apr 23rd 2010 7:33PM
My bucket list is ridiculously long. Mostly achievement-oriented.
The Insane
The Exalted
Starcaller
Loremaster
The Seeker
Its Over Nine Thousand
Kill LK (fortunately I've recently moved from a casual/social to a raiding guild, they're still in mid-ICC content but progressing so this should happen)
I'm not an altoholic, which is to my benefit, at least. Focus is good. Granted I'm working on a rogue for Ravenholt help, but otherwise I'm keeping things on my main.
Gold cap too, but that will happen, regardless. I'll do mountain o' mounts *after* I cap. I've been pretty stingy on mounts thusfar, although I have considered the vendor one for practical purposes when doing some old farming stuff, still may change mind on that. Could be handy for ZG or something.
Helps too that main is a Pally, makes solo farming some things ridiculously easy.
NecDW4 Apr 23rd 2010 8:10PM
Hurry up and get my paly and warlock to 60 so i can do their epic mount quests, also the doomguard for the lock.
Red Viking Apr 23rd 2010 10:25PM
I've already completed my bucket list.
Got my Loremaster title and all of the PvE heirloom equipment.
That's right. All of them.
Rajinnu Apr 23rd 2010 11:36PM

There is so much I want to accomplish, that I have virtually given up doing anything in Northrend on my main.
Every comment I read added another thing to my list :(
I've been working on it for a month or so, and stepped up the pace on Tuesday after I finished my last final. I have a feeling that I am going to have to create a more realistic list if I want to get it done.
WTB more time.
Dalehan Apr 24th 2010 2:36AM
I'm pretty much set with everything I want to do and give to my Cataclysm alts, plus I've put a nice amount of gold aside for them. The only distinctive thing I've done now was going into BM spec and tame that rare spawn Silithid from Shimmering Flats to save it. :D
Juzelle Apr 24th 2010 2:50AM
One thing 'm seriously going to miss is all the completely borked, unfinished terrain in the game. Armed with a priest and a glyphed levitate you can access some pretty hilarious things most players were never meant to see.
Among these things that I will truly miss are:
- old silithus (the unfinished outdoor concept instance)
- Dancing troll village
- The abandoned tauren village Southeast of silithus (reachable via the coast)
- all the glitchy landscapes up in the hills & in between zones
World exploring will never be the same :'(
And color me crazy, but of all the zones that are changing, I will miss the Barrens the most. I know alot of people, new horde and old alike were never very fond of the barrens, but as a whole I find the entire zone to be pleasantly relaxing. Especially at night, it's a nice place to just sit and idle with your ambience turned up.
I hold as much affection for the place as I do for Nagrand, so i will be sorry to see it change.
I'll tell you what though, i'd like to see tanaris get BIGGER. Nothing I love more than windswept sand dunes full of giant skeletons & ancient ruins. not enough deserts in this game, to be sure. Same thing with Azshara. Azshara is just a big empty space filled with promise but lacking in everything. Can't wait tos ee what the goblins do to the old gal :3
Smoe Apr 26th 2010 7:15PM
Same here. I specifically leveled engineering for this purpose. The only few places I haven't gotten to are the instanced version of Silithus, the Emerald Forrest, the Secret Deadmines area (old outlands?), and the glacier behind ZF (Instanced).
