The Daily Quest: PvP fun

Today's TDQ was inspired by the lovely time I had in Warsong Gulch late last night. It was a PUG, not a premade, and yet people were competent, encouraging, communicative and polite. If only all battleground experiences were so pleasant. Perhaps these links from the community will help make this happen more often.
- No matter the battleground, Cynwise's Battlefield Manual recommends you Fight at the Flag.
- Gnomeageddon stresses that Midfield is not an Objective.
- Cynwise also breaks it down into Simple Battleground Strategies.
- Our Basil Berntsen at Outdps writes about Communication in Battlegrounds.

I actually find that Arathi Basin has the best chance of good communication. I'm not sure why, but it's a safe bet that there are at least a handful calling out "3 inc to BS" or "I'm goin LM".
And good comms usually means a fun battle, regardless if we win or lose.

Had a great Ab yesterday. Everyone had fun, it was hard fought, and had some epic battles at BS which everyone loved even when the allies pushed us back. Personal highlight, my spriest taking on 2 retadins and winning.

I am sorry Robin, but your title is wrong. PvP and fun, as many hardcore players will tell you, are mutuality exclusive activities.
Tokkar Apr 24th 2010 10:26PM
Hmm...interesting. I'm wondering why this got voted down, because that's been my experience as well. Maybe it was voted down by those self-same hardcore PvPers?
Agony Apr 25th 2010 2:54AM
LOL - now YOU'RE voted back up and Tokkar is voted down. WTF?
swimstarguy Apr 25th 2010 7:42AM
I'm going to agree with loreadict.
I can't stand being in a BG with some hardcore PvP dork who's constantly screaming or insulting everyone. These fun-vampires tend to ruin the game for everyone.
Yes, it is possible to learn, have fun, win, paint your face with the blood of the Alliance, and communicate all at the same time; so long as there isn't a hardcore PvPer there.
Leonardnimoy Apr 25th 2010 2:26PM
How is it any different than the hardcore heroic/raider who does the same yelling and insulting?
loreaddict Apr 25th 2010 4:37PM
Thats it. There goes my career as an internet comedian. :P

They should make a BG where fighting at the flag is a bad idea and controlling the midfield is important.
This change in design would blow so many minds that neurologists would get overtime pay.
swimstarguy Apr 25th 2010 7:46AM
Not a bad idea.
Perhaps the flag emits a buff/aura that helps the players around it. That buff is increased depending on how many resources you're able to defend from the middle?
Win when you capture their flag. Make your flag-aura stronger by taking coconuts from the middle and dropping them off at your flag. :D

Hoggersbud is clearly a neurosurgeon in a highly populated WoW playing region.
I'll be there in 5 :)

I've got it: If more than two players of the same faction are on the node, it starts to deal AOE damage to those players, scaling up by number of players. So, in essence, you can only protect a node with two players...or take it with two.
Oriflame Apr 24th 2010 8:57PM
with the new honor changes... winning by fighting smart in WSG no longer pays the most honor. The middle is the objective that pays the best sadly.
jealouspirate Apr 24th 2010 9:10PM
I could be wrong, but I don't think this is true. If you're using the random BG finder, every win nets you 1800 Honor. Efficient wins should be the fastest way to gain honor.
Oriflame Apr 25th 2010 12:04AM
oh, yes, I should clarify, that this is what I have found Pre-80, queuing for specific BGs. You are probably correct related to the random bg finder.
Leonardnimoy Apr 25th 2010 2:35PM
80 BG or not, fighting in the middle for the entire time, rather than 3 quick caps, will net the most honor. You get the bonus honor, plus all of the HKs and damage honor. I've been in countless BGs at 80 where one team has 2 caps and is in control of the third flag, but doesn't cap - specifically to farm honor points.

Cynwise is brilliant, all her posts are great and everyone should listen to her instructions. Gnomeaggedgon too.
One thing Cynwise really opened my eyes to is the importance of graveyard control and understanding where you and your enemy will be spawning. It's really game changing, but somehow often overlooked. I suggest everyone read her great posts on the topic.
Dave Apr 24th 2010 9:41PM
Cynwise is a dude ;) Good call though, Cynwise has some really awesome tips
Cynwise Apr 29th 2010 4:22PM
Thanks guys! Flattery will get you free healthstones if we find ourselves in the same battleground. :-)
Graveyard control is really interesting. I've been dumped all the way back to FWGY while playing horde, only to then be sent -- with the entire attacking force -- to Dun Baldar. Vann was dead shortly thereafter.
I just shook my head and said, "that's why you don't cap FWGY, people."
