The Queue: A rebuttal

Adam isn't the only one that can kick off The Queue with pictures of good-looking ladies from geeky TV shows. Behold: Christina Hendricks. You may recognize her from shows such as Firefly and Mad Men. I think I'll let the header image speak for itself and get right into the Q&A.
Pumabackup asked:
"I've been wondering about worgen and goblin death knights. How will they explain the story with them?"
My understanding is they won't. It's a case where they're not going to worry about the lore at all in the interest of maximizing fun. There probably shouldn't be any worgen death knights since they've all been locked away in Gilneas until after the events of Wrath of the Lich King, but it's just more fun if they can be death knights. It's like when they brought back Onyxia a few patches ago. There was no lore around it, she was never actually resurrected in the story, it was just for fun.
Jamie asked:
"Is there any way WoW.com can fund a breeding programme between Dawn Moore & Chris Belt to create the best WoW blogger?"
You frighten me. And I think Mr. Belt is already married with children, so you're out of luck.
JFetch asked:
"Why are there NPCs that sell higher level white weapons? These weapons seem useless since they have no stat bonuses, but cost large sums of gold. Who is buying these?"I'm pretty sure I've answered this before, but oh well. A few of my guild mates have bought them to level up weapon skills. The white weapons you can buy in Dalaran have very fast swing speeds. The Dalaran Great Axe is a two-handed axe with a 1.8 second swing speed. If you're a protection warrior/paladin and don't plan on ever actually getting a two-handed axe, you might as well use that for your skill ups.
It also just adds flavor to the game. Not everything you find on vendors is something you're going to take into a raid or use for character progression. The little things like that make a city feel more city-like. The random civvies living in Dalaran need weapons too, but they don't have the luxury of going out and killing boars all day long. Or ... you know, gods.
Grinton asked:
"I have met some RL friends that I want to play with, but they play on an EU Server. What would be the best way to go about switching?"
You're going to need to start over from scratch, unfortunately. You can't transfer characters from US to EU servers. You're going to need to go to WoW-Europe.com and repurchase the game and all of its expansions. Switching regions is not an easy task, but hopefully playing with friends will make it worthwhile.
That was our last question for today, but I want to jot down two notes for everybody reading: First, I'll have eye candy for the opposite gender on Wednesday. Ladies, don't feel left out. Second, my warrior is crit-immune, you jerks.

I was always of the opinion that Worgen Death Knights are likely to hail from Pyrewood Village, as they're in close enough proximity to Gilneas and SFK to have become Worgen-ized, themselves, and, during the day, they're friendly to Alliance players...
Maybe I'm grasping at straws, but yeah...
vinniedcleaner Apr 26th 2010 2:01PM
...and don't they turn into worgens at night?
Fletcher Apr 26th 2010 3:08PM
I don't know why everyone has such trouble with worgen and goblins being death knights. Goblins have been all over Azeroth since the Second War; there'd have been plenty in Lordaeron when the Scourge hit. That abomination you killed in Eastern Plaguelands? Probably at least 30% goblin. The Lich King would have no trouble finding dead goblins.
As for worgen, well, they're a little harder, but not by much. For one thing; they're all over Silverpine Forest. Take a ride through there someday, you'll see they're not exactly confined to Gilneas. And for another thing; Arugal - the guy who *invented* the worgen curse* - was resurrected by the Lich King as a ghost. There are worgen all over Grizzly Hills too because of that. It'd be no trouble for Arugal to have said "Hey Arthas, this damn worgen keeps chewing on my slippers, won't you take him off of my hands?".
*Arugal's "cursed" worgen - regular humans who turn into ravening wolfmen - should be distinguished from "regular" worgen - the ones summoned by the Scythe of Elune in Darkshire and Ashenvale, and which are ravening wolfmen all the time.

the problem lies not with their existence, but rather why they would be a part of the Horde/Alliance once they are free of the Lich King.
If no goblin is a member of the horde before the Lich King dies, why does my goblin go to ... Garrosh? to "rejoin" the Horde's ranks?
And yes, the worgen should be distinguished as the worgen people will be playing supposedly involves the curse brought by the worgen summoned by the scythe or something. There are worgen druids because of the 'ancient alliance' between worgen and Elune. Or something. So again, how would those be running to Varian if the Lich King is dead before they join the Alliance? It's even worse if you claim these are Arugal's worgen as part of the story of why you rebel against the LK is because he's making you lose your humanity (or whatever the word for your race is) by making you kill a relative. It would be detrimental then to claim you are free and then killing your family again.
Of course, the problem with this logic is the fact that Goblins/Worgen/any new race they introduce will be able to face the Lich King anyways. And it will be even worse (logically) to see my DK go to Garrosh and then shortly thereafter visit him in nagrand and then report to him as a commander and not warchief. Unless they retcon that stuff too. I especially can't wait for my various Horde alts to make visits for similar reasons.
pandaba Apr 26th 2010 5:11PM
Icepyro: your points are excellent and I agree with you that the problem with the worgen is pretty unsurmountable from a lore point of view.
But for the goblins there is an easy solution. So some poor goblin gets captured, turned into a DK, manages to break free, etc., and tries to return to work at her father's business in Steamwheedle, only to be told to take a hike because having a DK in the family firm would just scare customers away. So she goes to Orgrimmar because she heard other DK's were being accepted into service with the Horde and because of the Horde's special relationship with goblin nations / companies even before a particular set of goblins were accepted into the Horde.
I don't plan on making a goblin DK, but if I did, I'd definitely use that backstory.

How I will explain it in my own little head:
You got those worgen that were created for the Lich King in Grizzly Hills. Lord knows how long they've been up there, and how many people got "turned" during the Lich King's attack.
For goblins, that one is easy... Goblins have been everywhere forever. :)

When are you posting the question and answer portion of the queue?!?
Undarl Apr 26th 2010 1:13PM
I don't think this has been announced yet, but I'll ask anyway: what kind of mounts will tauren paladins be summoning? Been thinking about that for weeks. :) Also hoping for a nifty tabard like the blood knights, maybe something of a native american-ish stylized sun for the Sunwalkers.
Qot Apr 26th 2010 1:18PM
I can't decide if a Tauren paladin mount question is a legitimate topic for discussion or the most dirty Christina Hendricks reference yet.
Kylenne Apr 26th 2010 1:23PM
Tauren Paladins are getting special kodo mounts. A blue confirmed it a few months ago on the official Cataclysm board. Draenei Paladins are also getting a special elekk mount as well.
Basically the idea is that every order of paladins has their own mount, which is why Dwarves aren't getting a ram.
Vaeku Apr 26th 2010 1:37PM
Thank god Draenei paladins are getting their own Vindicator/Hand of Argus mount. They look ridiculous on the regular paladin horses.
