What has two thumbs but can't heal? was the final project for the class "Governance of Virtual Worlds" at Arizona State University's Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law. The team created this machinima as a tie-in to their paper, which was a complaint filed in court alleging civil rights violations against gnomes.
In a world where people still punt gnomes, I look to this video for guidance in how to stop the travesties. Gnomes are people, too. Thanks to John for the tip -- this video brings a little light into the dark world of gnome abuse. While the video was meant to be funny and kind of absurd, it definitely exemplifies a valid legal argument. It's awesome to see how WoW machinima can help teaching strategies; What has two thumbs but can't heal? is a total win in that regard.
Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an e-mail at machinima AT wow DOT com.
Those gnomes are such ingrates, after we dwarves have given them free room and board for 5+ years, protected them from their own stupidity they have the audacity to complain about their choice jobs in the gardens? pfft let alone giving them a healing class.. how else are we to police their populace as they already breed like rabbits!
Are you kidding me? Free room and board? Hardly! You keep us crammed in that tiny joke of a housing complex called Tinker Town, all the while demanding that we churn out invention after invention. We built a high-speed railway between Ironforge and Stormwind and did we even get so much as a thank you? No!
You dwarves need to learn to appreciate your gnome brethren more. If it weren't for us gnomes you never would have stayed sober long enough to get admitted into the Alliance. The next time you need someone to pick you up from an all night kegger in Orgrimmar don't call us. You're on your own.
Gnomes! It's high time we retake our beloved capital and remove the yoke of oppression from off our necks! Equal Rights for Gnomes now!
You must be daft. To the core with ya, ya blasted irradiated half pint!
Go take your precious Gnomergon back, but keep your green goo off my bar stool, ya here me! In fact here's a few Dwarvish tanks! You know the kind that don't blow up when you turn the ignition.
boring, horrible quality voice work, not funny. About 2 minutes in I lost interest and was shocked that the thing is somehow 5mins long, lol. Sure I could praise them for their effort I guess, but the fact is that I have watched many videos being posted on this blog and this is easily one of the worst.
Yikes, someone needs to take some film classes while they're going to that law school at ASU. Also, microphones are not for eating. :\
There was some funny stuff at the beginning but they lost me when the audio got even worse. Sorry, I guess I have high standards when it comes to silly internet videos.
You know you're on the interwebs when someone takes the time to post and say that West Chester is 2 words, not one as they spelled it here- they had me till they specified PA.
Why on earth did they use it? I am prolly a total noob here, but was there something about the resulting acronym that I missed? They're in Arizona! They could have used any place! (Also I couldn't blame them for misspelling West Chester)... but it prolly screws up their acronym.
I would have liked if the sound quality for the voice acting was a little better, but it was a cute movie. The little "commercial" during the clip dragged on a little too long imo, but otherwise I liked it.
I chuckled at the name Gnomey-one Kenobi, but the rest of it was so very "meh". I expected it to lead to, or at least address, gnomes gaining the priest class in Cataclysm, but it ended up being more of the gnomes-are-treated-poorly routine that we've seen over and over in other videos and comics and such.
Has Rosa Parks, so soon after her death, already become a mere keyword to evoke the concept of civil rights? She's a real person with a really important story to tell. I'm picturing 10th graders going into their American History classes next year and thinking, "Rosa Parks? Wasn't she the gnome who got 1-shot by that death knight?"
It's apparent that these are law students and not storytellers. The production values were pretty low, and there's very little thought here that is original or even cute.
Also, when incorporating public domain material in its entirety (such as the music in this video), it's still common courtesy to identify its source in the credits. You took the time to thank by name the players who showed up to be frapsed, but not the individuals who wrote, performed, and recorded the music?
If you ask me (I know you didn't), movies featured here should be of much better quality than this. I realize sifting through all the crap videos out there is tough, but I'd rather see WoW moviewatch once a week with something amazing than every day with crap.
