PTR character copy service active (Updated)

Of note: my particular character copies haven't been reset since the last PTR testing phase, giving me a grand total of one possible character copy to the PTR servers. You may be in a similar or worse boat.
As always, when Blizzard provides more information about the status of the PTR, as well as its contents, we'll be sure to let you know. Until then, feel free to hammer the character copy server -- you were going to anyway.
Update: MMO-Champion points out that instead of our normal Anasterian and Broxigar realms on the PTR realm list, we have Broxigar and BlizzCon Event. As Boubouille notes: "When was the last time Blizzard needed a server for BlizzCon?"

Woot!
Given that they've recently been talking about the Battle.Net integration and releasing the new information on Echo Isles and/or Gnomer, my bet is for at least the beginning step of that.

If you look at the character copy, when selecting the realm to transfer to there is something new and interesting. Instead of the typical servers Anasterion and Broxigar, we have Broxigar and Blizzcon Event.
Transferring a character to Blizzcon Event. Let's see what happens...

Blizzcon Event. Cataclysm was tested at Blizzcon and was quite the event. Hmmm...just saying. Betalolwut?

My fanciful hypothesis is that Blizz is gonna let us all playtest the new zones during Blizzcon, instead of just convention-goers.
Which is great press and awesome and going to kill their servers.

Blizzcon isn't until late October. I'd imagine that Cata will either be out or almost out at that time, so I doubt it.

tried to xfer to blizzcon event and it failed
ConvictElm Apr 28th 2010 3:17PM
I just tried and it isn't working for me... maybe overloaded with people trying to do the same thing or it isn't really up.
Gabriel Apr 28th 2010 3:07PM
It fails to copy to either get an error every time
Rowan Apr 28th 2010 3:12PM
It's failing for people because there is no actual PTR server yet. This little bit of information though is very much inclining me to believe there will be one very, very soon...
Rowan Apr 28th 2010 3:14PM
Not to mention not everyone can get on the beta PTR. You'll only be able to copy toons if you have an invite...
Tethra Apr 28th 2010 3:15PM
LOL Beta?
*crosses fingers*

The last time blizzard needed a server for blizzcon was you know when they had a live raid? The one where they pitted one of the worlds top guilds against things one of which was mega hogger?

I doubt people signed up for those events through a public PTR transfer option visible by everyone. It makes no sense to activate the PTR option just to invite a few pre-selected people for Blizzcon.

The live raid was done by Premonition on their actual server, Sen'jin. It wasn't on a ptr server.

Man this month has been full of surprises from Blizz. The start of the Beta would be awesome though. Even if I don't get an invite (I'm still hoping I do, even though I got the Starcraft II beta).
I remember during the Wrath beta, watching all the new videos on youtube.
But something tells me, this isn't for the Beta. Echo Isles & Gnomer content makes more sense though. Still, what's the deal with the Blizzcon server?
Lichkingspawn Apr 28th 2010 3:53PM
most likely just a event to test out the pre-patch 4.0 events but could be cataclysm hope it is >-_->
jfofla Apr 28th 2010 3:55PM
I have been in every Beta, and I always do the same thing. Log on, look around for 10 minutes, and never log on again.
Just can't make myself do Beta or PTRs.
Hyacinthe Apr 28th 2010 3:59PM
I'm the same way. I like that giddy feeling of seeing the "new world" for the first time with the rest of the playerbase. Riding over to Northrend was pretty magical.

Then do us all a favor and don't sign up for the beta this time. Some of us actually want to get into the beta so that we can help with the testing and what not.
Irem Apr 28th 2010 4:51PM
Then don't sign up for a beta invite? Some of us would like one so that we can actually help with testing, and not because we want a free, ten-minute-long sneak peek at the expansion. If you can't be asked to log in aside from that, you can probably wait until it hits retail and let invites go to people doing what they're supposed to. There are enough clowns who spend their entire time in beta whining that the servers aren't stable or that everything doesn't work properly, but at least they play a bit and give some information.
