WoW Moviewatch: God's Gonna Cut You Down
The imagery and flow of this video is awesome. I love the techniques Kidsake used in this video. The color images contrasted against the grainy black-and-white film is a powerful tool, and I like that the still-frame cutouts give the audience a chance to really check out each portrait.
Johnny Cash was an amazing musician and brought a lot of depth to the folk song. I think Kidsake did the song justice with his video. The moody, somber colors all speak to the same kind of pensive, threatening tone used by Cash, and the violent battles are complimented by God's Gonna Cut You Down's fierce and unyielding lyrics. Ultimately, this video is just great stuff, and I look forward to seeing more Cash songs turned into video. Kidsake, obviously, should be well received and hopefully he'll keep creating new films.

Great song choice! It's so nice to hear Johnny Cash after so many rap and pop songs.
I love the style of this machinima. The storyboard/diorama feel captures the mood very well. It's simplistic but effective, not to mention unique.
I'll be looking forward to more from this person. :)

Such a great song, Johnny Cash rules.
Very cool video too :)

Great music choice, very nicely put together video. I liked the setup for the shots, and getting to see some of the new Cataclysm race/class combinations. Some of the costume effects were pretty cool too, especially the tauren warpaint. Not sure if that came from an in-game character or not, but it would sure be cool to have that kind of option for my own toons.

I think it's beautiful, and Johnny Cash always gives me chills. I think it's hard to connect with the movie, though, because the subjects of each diorama aren't very clear. Technically, I think it's amazing, and the effects used to bring about the atmosphere are incredible, but I wish I knew what the hell was going on and how they related to the theme.

That was really cool. The video captured the song really well and like all great machina it made me want to play the game.

Hi ya! Thank you all for your words! This video is a representation of our lil Guild, Feckin Feah Bomb Brah (the characters in the 'movies') telling our soon to be new Cata characters(the New Orgrimmar Saints-yes we're mostly New Orleans players/Katrina evacuees) to go forth and slay, so to speak, but that missive contains a warning, that nothing lasts forever.
I am a huge Cash fan and WoW player, so I thought both could go together.
I hope to continue with machinima and entertain you all.

Absolutely awesome, Kidsake - thx!
Love the guild, too!

I admit the song and the video were nearly making one but im surprised at that stylish intro and credits you got. It's very well done and, like it was said earlier, its pretty unique

Everything (even the ending credits?!) was straight up eye candy that was all kinds of awesome. It was a welcome break from the normal music vids with lazy lip syncing being the main thing you see. The pace was great for the song as well, very artys stuff.
I am glad the maker of the vid came in and gave an explanation or two, because honestly, even after watching it twice I could barely understand what exactly was meant by the images combined with the song.

Since my main's a Resto shammy, I should have named my business ShamWoW, since it's so heavily advertised at Wegame, lol

That was quite incredible, and that's not even the Johnny Cash megar-fan in me talking! The static fighting really struck a chord against the fairly brutal lyrics. I loved the Tauren in war-paint at the end. Excellent stuff, top notch work Kidsake!

Simply amazing.
Now, go make more. >.>

Bravo sir, bravo!

An awesome machinima. But beginning a trend for Johnny Case songs? Surely you haven't forgotten Solitary Man (WoW Moviewatch April 15th)

Jesus is LORD! What a fantastic movie and Johnny Cash is with THE Man from Galilee. God bless his family and God bless Kidsake!

You know, as I was watching it, it kinda reminded me of the opening credits of True Blood (only in a general feel sorta way). But having read Kidsake's post, I've gotta ask if that had any influence on the creative process...being from Louisiana and all.
Kidsake Apr 28th 2010 2:32PM
Ya know, I have yet to see True Blood, yet oddly enough, I've read most of the books.
The main influence, of all things, is Splinter Cell: Conviction, wherein the flashbacks all take place on walls and such in that grainy detail I tried to incorporate in the vid.
I wanted to do something to emphasize the violence that is prevalent through the song and really nothing was working til I decided to go the diorama route. I did the very first scene first and it just popped. So hence the rest of the vid.
Thank you all again for your kind words and I hope my next one will be as well received and entertaining.

If anyone's burning to know, the very first song that plays before Mr. Cash begins is track 5, "Dirge of Defeat" off Black Aria, a beautiful musical work by Danzig's lead singer.
I heard the song and went "CRAP! I know that from somewhere", took me a few, but I found it, just thought I'd spread it along, since it's good stuff!

Nice work, keep at it.
