Breakfast Topic: Mine, all mine

The best example I saw of GHI in use was a friend of mine who made a present for a roleplayer's "baby shower" event. Instead of getting something tangible with gold or crafting something with their chosen profession, my friend decided to use GHI to make something completely unique. The item was labeled as a gnomish baby-rocker, with a description that indicated it was a self-rocking cradle that played a lullaby for the baby as it rocked. The best part was that when the player clicked the item, it would play the sound file for Lament of the Highborne, making it a fully interactive little trinket for the "pregnant" player.
As far as unique items go, the only thing in my regular bags that by all rights shouldn't be there is Taretha's Necklace -- the one mentioned in Lord of the Clans that is retrievable via a horde quest. The last leg of the quest has you obtain the necklace because Thrall would like it back. This is all well and good, but when I looked at it from the eyes of my rogue, all I could think was that it was shiny, and pretty, and she would probably enjoy keeping it. So I did -- I never turned in the quest, and it is one of a few that are left unfinished in my quest log. But with the introduction of GHI, I could make other odds and ends that suited my character, like the journals of Arch Druid Fandral Staghelm pictured above. In addition, I could make copies of every readable book in game and carry them around with me as my very own mini library!
I wondered though, what with the particular ingeniousness of this addon, what sort of items other people would make for their characters. What would represent them, what would they consider something that their character just "had to have" whether it be for looks or just a fun trinket to play with. Would it have a sound file linked to it, or would it just be something to read? With GHI, the possibilities are nearly limitless. So if you guys could make one thing for your character to carry around, what would it be?

I would use it to carry the coins from the Dalaran fountain without having to bother fishing them up.
And the music box that plays Lament of the Highborne.

After reading up on what this can do;
* plays an audio file
* performs emotes
* is scriptable
* can be an object
Hmmmm....
I wonder if the "It doesn't bend that way" clip can be played loudly with it?
Kemikalkadet Apr 29th 2010 10:07AM
Yes but only you will hear it. It just uses the /script PlaySoundFile API that you often see on the wowhead boss pages for listening to the boss' audio.

These items can only traded to other players and not vendored/equipped, correct? And made books do not count toward any achevements?
Mimzy Apr 29th 2010 9:19AM
Yup. No selling them to vendors, you can only trade them to other players that have GHI, and nothing counts towards achievements. The addon is purely for fun.

My gnome warlock had his own "Spoon of Undead Turning" that would place the "Haunted" debuff on the character and randomly play tracks from the original corrupted Ashbringer when clicked. And no, he wasn't named Tasslehoff :)

I dislike GHI simply because I can't skin the button. I've tried ButtonFacade, BlizzFacade, several options, and I still can't make the button fit in with my interface. It's the button I rarely use that doesn't fit in at all, so I ended up deleting the addon.

GHI is amazing fun! I swear by it on all my RP toons. The corniest "d'awwww" thing I've done with it is make a set of rings that were important to my blood elf paladin's backstory: they were family heirlooms that were passed down in his noble house, which pretty much bit the dust during the fall of Silvermoon. Each person in his small circle of friends has one, as they consider themselves chosen family.
Other than that, I'm a big fan of silly books. I have a priest who secretly loves trashy romance novels, and has even been known to write them. He wrote a particularly awful one featuring a San'layn Kael and a thinly-veiled version of himself, called "Sunlight". That one always gets a ton of laughs when I give it to people. My Death Knight carries "Chicken Soup for the Soulless", with corny inspirational quotes, and has been known to give them to other DKs with particularly wangsty RSPs.

Oh, that last one is almost too wonderful.

I love the romance novel thing. One of my elves is particularly fond of them as well (though she'd be really embarrassed if anyone knew it- she considers herself way too proper for anything like that.)

I love GHI, but I really need to learn more about scripting. But, even without any scripting know-how, I've been making journals for my RP characters. Writing down some thoughts here and there during long flights or waiting on the tram helps me shape my characters' pasts and personality.
Though, I've gotta say, I like Joerendous' idea for a Tricorder. I may have to steal that one.

My main character is a cat druid and I made her "Strangle Fleas"
These little fleas are indigenous to Strangle Thorn Vale and are known to get to the size of a small hampster. They are vicious little guys and will make a character twitch uncontrollably, as they prefer to dine on skin tissues that are close to more nerve endings. They can make a good pet, i suppose...considering once you get strangle fleas, it's quite difficult to rid yourself of them!
hers is named Norbert

I used it to make an encyclopedia of Azeroth by copy and pasting the entire Lore section on www.WorldofWarcraft.com. I also had a friend who used it to make "Evil Cookies" that played a random Yogg-Saron sound set whenever eaten.

Image of Archmage Vargoth.
Whoever..
I put him on the steps to the Eventide bank because I have no other friends and I need someone to look like they're happy standing next to someone with a Gearscore below 6 million and who spams Piccolo of the Flaming Fire everytime he mounts his Chopper.
Everyone hates me. Except Image of Archmage Vargoth.
I asked if we were friends... he didn't say no.
"If you eliminate all else, then whatever remains, however improbably must be true."
Shout out to the Archmage.

Need a bit more information on this mod. If you make an item, can this be linked in chat and seen by others, even by people who don't also have the mod?
How does this mod fit in with players without also the mod installed?
Daniel Apr 29th 2010 11:27AM
As a part of the Gryphonheart team I'm glad that wow.com finally recognized this Addon.
Those who like GHI may also like Gryphonheart Reputation, which is almost finished in version 1.2.4 :)

They did. Or rather they mentioned another Blog that did which is basically the same thing.
