Breakfast Topic: Mine, all mine

The best example I saw of GHI in use was a friend of mine who made a present for a roleplayer's "baby shower" event. Instead of getting something tangible with gold or crafting something with their chosen profession, my friend decided to use GHI to make something completely unique. The item was labeled as a gnomish baby-rocker, with a description that indicated it was a self-rocking cradle that played a lullaby for the baby as it rocked. The best part was that when the player clicked the item, it would play the sound file for Lament of the Highborne, making it a fully interactive little trinket for the "pregnant" player.
As far as unique items go, the only thing in my regular bags that by all rights shouldn't be there is Taretha's Necklace -- the one mentioned in Lord of the Clans that is retrievable via a horde quest. The last leg of the quest has you obtain the necklace because Thrall would like it back. This is all well and good, but when I looked at it from the eyes of my rogue, all I could think was that it was shiny, and pretty, and she would probably enjoy keeping it. So I did -- I never turned in the quest, and it is one of a few that are left unfinished in my quest log. But with the introduction of GHI, I could make other odds and ends that suited my character, like the journals of Arch Druid Fandral Staghelm pictured above. In addition, I could make copies of every readable book in game and carry them around with me as my very own mini library!
I wondered though, what with the particular ingeniousness of this addon, what sort of items other people would make for their characters. What would represent them, what would they consider something that their character just "had to have" whether it be for looks or just a fun trinket to play with. Would it have a sound file linked to it, or would it just be something to read? With GHI, the possibilities are nearly limitless. So if you guys could make one thing for your character to carry around, what would it be?

I used to use GHI, but it seemed dependent on having a "project lead" on each server to create factions and assign leadership. The one who started it on my server disappeared after only a few weeks, and we ended up kind of stuck.
Also, any word on fixing GHI to not cause errors every time you get in/out of vehicles?

Oh hello! I love your addon, I've recommended it to plenty of players since I began using it well over a year ago. I've only got one quibble with it honestly - the popup window when you hop in a vehicle is awful. I end up having to disable it when I am raiding or running Wintergrasp, which makes me sad. Is there a way to fix the error window issue, or will it continue doing that for the foreseeable future?

I introduced this add-on to my guild a couple months ago and we've since been making fairly extensive use of it in our roleplaying events -- one of my guildies plays a Forsaken rogue with, and I quote, "the memory of a goldfish" and so he's always writing GryphonHeart notes for himself implicating him in hideous assassination plots and all sorts of skullduggery and leaving them laying around once he forgets about their importance, which is usually before the ink is dry. My ex-paladin-by-way-of-undeath DK is currently in the process of writing -- for one his currently-a-paladin-by-way-of-the-Blood-Knights comrades -- a treatise on proper paladinly deportment and martial philosophy, and regularly collects every book on both those topics and general history that he can find.
In terms of pure roleplaying utility, I cannot overstate the joy this add-on has given me.

On my Paladins: holy relics acquired from class specific quests.
On my warrior: a necklace with souvenirs from epic battles (Sindragosa's tooth, Big Bad Wolf's claw, Gruul's codpiece, etc).

I made a Stormwind Messenger Hawk, based on the Messenger Hawk from the GHI forums. (Really, all I did was fix all his typos and add Stormwind where appropriate.) When used, it summons a hawk, then sends it flying with your message off to the appropriate recipient. The hawk returns after delivering its message.
I've also made perfumes that give various "buffs" to coincide with their scents.
You can also make some fun trick items that will put some horrible debuffs on your friends should they use them. Don't get me started on the "Panties of the Goldshire Noblewoman." That is a debuff that won't wash off!
There's so much potential for fun with this addon. (Also among my creations are the "Dick in a Box" and the "Neidsmoore Cowbell.")
I highly recommend checking it out today!

Your "Journals of Fandral Staghelm" looks interesting. Might you have this available somewhere for reading? :)
Anne Stickney Apr 29th 2010 3:52PM
In my rogue's bags. :D
The one pictured above is only volume I. There are two others as well - they were part of an rp story that sadly never quite got off the ground, but I still have the journals, as well as Quintis Jonespyre's dissertation on Morrowgrain.

The O.O.M. It has a script that makes you laugh.
And the O.M.G., which makes you dance.
And then there are all of my renamed weps and armor, and my journals! You can even "take photos" now with books.

I'll make an item that says:
Do not open this box.
Then it plays the OBLIVION sound when opened.

For mage... A Portal gun.
A gun that shoots a portal to a faction city then once to the previously shot faction city back to the other.
A waste of reagents yes. But what an awesome reference it is.

I mostly use it to copy books that I come across in the world, being a lore nut. I've also used it in the past for former RP guilds. I wrote a 2-volume "employee manual" for guildmembers, completely in-character. Was pretty awesome.

You cannot cast spells or use items with GHI. Sorry :(

My warrior has her own perfume that give the buff "Smelling Lovely!" "Because saving the world is no excuse for not smelling your best!"

My Shaman was a Scholar who mastered the elements by studying with their Avatars for short periods (As well as the totem quests). He wrote theses on the elements (Based loosely on Aristotelian elemental thought) Which brought his mastery of them to a fuller conclusion.

Yes indeed it is a problem when the leader disappears. We are working on concepts to fix this issue.
The error message can easily disabled. I did not encounter any problems with this.
Its more a warning that this could happen. But my guess is that this error is fixed from blizzard a while ago.
