This is one of the things I enjoy about 10 man raiding. The larger space makes it seem more desperate. Knowing this place was designed for more adventurers to come into and we few are attempting it adds a sense of danger. The impression given by the wide halls and large rooms hearkens back to my days of table top role playing, knowing we were out manned and outclassed, dreading what may be around each corner. That's part of what I love about ICC, especially the plague area. The tall wide (though short) halls are eerie, and the traps in there are excellent, knowing our 10 man run didn't have a rogue added another layer of despair. We were a tiny huddled mass, all grouped up not knowing what types of horrors awaited us.That's part of what I like about running 10 mans in a place designed for 25 people. Places like Ulduar should be huge, it's designed as a prison for the gods. Why should anything scale to my tiny group in a place like that? Why should it even scale to 25 people? Look at the types of places we'll be going to once Cataclysm hits, Uldum, Grim Batol, why should places Titans and dragons inhabit be anywhere near scaled to human, tauren, or gnome?

You know, the more I read the arguments from both sides, the more I really suspect this debate has less to do with space and design and more to do with how you cut your teeth in fantasy gaming. I would heavily wager that those of us who think 10 mans feel more epic are tabletop veterans in the D&D mold, who are used to having anywhere from 3-8 "raiding" places like the Temple of Elemental Evil, the Demonweb Pits, etc. Something I keep reading over and over again--and agree with wholeheartedly--is the sentiment that there is nothing "epic" about strolling into a joint surrounded by 24/39 other people to kill something, no matter how scary lookin' the joint and/or thing in the joint is. I mean can you freaking imagine rolling up on Lolth with 39 level 14 1st edition D&D characters? Yeah, she might be freaking *Lolth*, but that doesn't even seem fair. And it seems like those of us who feel that way play/ed a LOT of D&D-esque games.I think this even applies to people who just came of age playing single player cRPGs like Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest, etc. (Hell, even stuff like Castlevania where it's just ONE GUY--or girl, screw IGA's retcons--literally storming the castle.) I think this also applies to people who never gamed at all before WoW and just read a lot of fantasy novels in the Tolkien mold. Yeah, a lot of times in these stories, there will be epic battles between armies at some point, but more often than not the pivotal battles/confrontations end up being the Hero/ine with or without hir small, ragtag group of friends vs. the Big Bad. Even in the Warcraft universe, for every Battle of Mt. Hyjal you've got stuff like Grom and Thrall vs. Mannoroth, Orgrim Doomhammer vs. Anduin Lothar, etc.On the other side, it seems like people who are natural born wargamers are more likely to feel it's NOT epic unless you've got a small army for a raiding party. FWIW, I'm not saying that one group is necessarily more a fan of 10 or 25 man raids than the other, I'm just saying that from the very subjective idea of "feel", it seems like there's correlations.
