Weren't Blackrock Depths and Blackrock Spire once 40-man raids? They're 5-mans now. I never ran them in the olden days but I ran them recently on a healer I'm leveling up. I'm not actually sure how you would fit 40 characters in that space and still be able to see what's going on.
Those dungeons have some big open spaces, but they also have many small spaces. I think there's more room in any given part of Utgarde Keep than in most of the rooms in LBRS I ran across (although I didn't finish it - those instances are NOT compatible with RDF groups). Would you say that those experiences are just as epic as Molten Core? I can see the length and the sheer number of regular mobs and bosses making them epic, but the size factor we're talking about just isn't there.

UBRS and BRD were once 10-man; UBRS is still 10-man, BRD is now 5 man. As far as I know, LBRS has always been 5.

Actually, before it was 10man, UBRS/LBRS was 15man
I believe, way back back back, that you could run 40 people through whatever instance. You would have 40 people tearing through BRD to get to the portal to Molten Core. Then they added the NPC that let you port into MC if you did the run once. (That was before I started, so not sure).
