One note: You say to use a Reckless Ametrine to fill a Spell Power socket bonus Yellow/Red socket. If it is red, why not just use the Runed Cardinal?

At a certain point in gearing, Haste and Crit becomes equivalent to spellpower (you'd have to check Rawr to see if you're at that point), so a Reckless Ametrine would have more stats (12 spellpower / 10 haste) than Runed Cardinal Ruby (23 spellpower). Granted, the difference is very small, but it is a difference.

The mixed gems are often worth it to pick up set bonuses. If SP is worth 1 and haste & crit .9 and the set bonus for one yellow is +7 SP you get 23 SP with a cardinal or 28 effective SP [12 + (.9*10) + 7] with an ametrine.Dreadstones can go ahead of a cardinal too but it's really tight. In good gear with raid buffs, a .6 value for spirit is a reasonable guestimate but a tool like Rawr is required to start cutting things so close. Straight reds is always safe and you know, it kinda just feels more mage-y. Red, red like fire!
