Breakfast Topic: Big Mistake

Everyone makes mistakes. Sometimes, we make really, really big mistakes. Mistakes that take, and I wish I was exaggerating, months to remedy. Take for instance my giant blunder around the time patch 3.1 came around.
It was a bright, sunny day in Dalaran. I was minding my own business in trade chat when, out of the blue, a lone trader was requesting a large amount of Northern Spices. See, on my server at the time, these were going for some decent cash. I guess there was a lack of chefs, feasts were in demand, and all that jazz? Nonetheless, I was sitting on a heaping pile of Dalaran Cooking Awards doing absolutely nothing in my currency tab. 133 to be exact. With all my recipes learned and Cooking Awards burning a hole in my proverbial pocket, I liquidated them all for a mass amount of spices, collected my gold from this wayward traveler, and smiled a happy grin.
Then this happened.
Have you done anything monumentally stupid before a patch that you never could have seen coming? What was your biggest head slap moment in WoW? Don't be like me, kids. Save everything, or you'll be doing cooking dailies for months again for a stupid hat.

I'm not so sure that ignorance in this case equates to stupidity. You can't predict the future.
Valt May 1st 2010 8:10AM
And to be fair blue posters responded before that they have no plans to make chefs hat anything else than just vanity item.
Lars Petersson May 1st 2010 10:06AM
This.
Similar to how people who sold their Frozen Orbs before Frozo was announced can't really ba called stupid.
On the tother hand, wasting emblems because you didn't bother looking into what you were doing, now that's a /facepalm moment...
Not that I did that when I hit 80 and got overexcited... :-/

Well, technically it's not JUST a vanity item, it does double your cooking speed. Seems superfluous I know, but when you want to craft several stacks of buff food it's nice to have.
Noah May 1st 2010 10:15AM
Right, but Valt is saying that they originally announced it as only a vanity item.

I had 4,7k gold, but for some reason, dailies were going slow, so I bought non-combat pets with it. I wanted to buy epic flying. Never had I have that much money again.
Deathknighty May 1st 2010 10:14AM
Same. I was getting epic flying, got past 3k gold, then...
...celebrated by whittling that down to under 1k. And then I decided, "why not gear up an alt!" >_<
And now I complaon to everyone that I don't any money. /facepalm

Not quite the same, but way, way back in Vanilla, I'd been levelling as fast as I could so that I could get a black NElf mount. The patch that took the cats away and gave them that stupid armor instead hit the day before I hit 60.
Furlover May 1st 2010 8:16AM
This made me chuckle - I did practically the exact same thing. I cursed that hat when I saw it announced yet I still did the dailies again to get it :D
CaryEverett May 1st 2010 9:15AM
I actually, didn't care that much for the Chef's Hat.
I did however realize that there was going to be a spike in the value of Spices due to people buying hats, and I dumped my entire spice stockpile for crazy money.

I rolled a Druid. Now I can't play any other character for any decent amount of time... The call of the druid always pulls me back! I am now working on a second druid, to cover 2 specs that I don't have on my main one. Sigh... Druidism is much more addictive than fel magic :)

Sold a half a dozen stacks of frozen orbs for the cash. Got more from the vendor than the AH...
Oh.
natural20media May 1st 2010 8:29AM
I did that too. Four stacks vendored at 6g a pop cause they were 6g 50s on the AH.

My own stupidity beats that..
One time I joined a TBC heroic to Mechanaar on my hunter.
You need flying, I didn't have it.
I pretended to DC and logged my Paladin and sent my hunter 1000g.
The I pretended to fly the wrong way (to Shadowmoon - I don't know how I blaged that one, we weren't going to BT!) and learnt flying.. so with my spanky pants new mount I flew all the way to Netherstorm and realised I didn't have the Heroic Key.
What a stupid cunt.
Oh well... I deleted my S1 geared shit for brains hunter. Good fucking riddence.
Thick twat! hahaha
Deathknighty May 1st 2010 8:34AM
I...think you could have just told them you were very sorry but you didn't have flying, silly you. You don't need to send 100g to the character, buy flying, then delete your level capped character with newly purchased flying skill. That, I believe, is a overreaction. :P
Kemikalkadet May 1st 2010 10:28AM
Well this topic is about monumental stupidity. I think this post wins it.
Kanap May 1st 2010 11:11AM
this post super wins for biggest mistake.

Language!

I bought a chopper.
For my Death Knight. Hardly played it since, what with it making little sense in a RP mindset.
