Children's Week Dalaran orphan quest broken [Updated]

I'm terribly sorry about the delay in getting back to you all regarding this issue; however, this is an issue we are presently looking into. At this time, players who completed the Dalaran Children's Week quests will be unable to re-accept the quests. We hope to resolve this issue as soon as possible, but we do not have an ETA to provide at this time.
We will surely let you know as soon are more information becomes available.
Thank you all for your patience!

Thank you all for your patience!
This annual reset glitch has happened a few times in the past with other seasonal events. This issue should not be affecting the Stormwind, Orgrimmar or Shattrath orphan quests. It should also not be affecting those who are doing the Dalaran orphan quest for the first time. More information about the current seasonal event can be found in our Children's Week guide updated for 2010.
We'll update this post when Blizzard announces the fix.
Update: Blizzard has announced that there is no fix this year:
To clarify, this issue won't be able to be resolved for Children's Week this year. If you completed the quest previously you won't be able to complete it again for the other pet this year.

do it on your alts fast, sometimes these resets let you do it again when they reset everyone. then you get 2 pets this year.

Shattrath IS bugged. The matron there has no quests for me, even though i need Willy for the acheivement

I can't get any of the orphan quests. At most I can get the whistles, but I can't get quests from the matrons or the orphans. My best guess is it has to do with already having completed the meta. This is the first year anyone can be trying the quests with their meta already done. I'm just going for more pets.

I have the meta (got it in Sept 2009 after completing Brewfest), and I was able to do the Azeroth and Outlands orphan quest chains. The only one that isn't appearing is the Dalaran one. Not sure what to say except that it might be realm-based :/

I can accept the quests, but only from someone else's orphan. When I summon my own orphan, he appears and vanishes almost instantly; even if I can click on him, I can't do it fast enough to accept the quest before he disappears. At least the fraction of a second he exists is sufficient to count as having taken him to each place.

I'm having the same problem. Report it on the forums.
Dan O'Halloran May 2nd 2010 1:31PM
Someone reported on the official forums the same disappearing orphan issue. He said it was a problem with a pet AddOn he had. So try disabling any pet AddOns to see if that fixes the problem.

I had this problem with the shatterth orphan...until I realized it was livestock causing the problem. I have it set to summon a pet any time I'm out, but it doesn't register the orphan as a pet, so as soon as I land, I summon the orphan, which dismisses the pet livestock had summoned, and then livestock summons a new one, dismissing the orphan.
If you are using livestock, type /livestock and then deselect everything from the critter menu.
viva May 2nd 2010 1:35PM
OK guys, it appears for me it was the addon Livestock. Turned it off and everything's fine.
Amaxe-1 May 2nd 2010 7:28PM
Livestock auto summon pet will replace the orphan with yours. Disabling it during the quests will help,

I can't even take the quest t get one, I hope they fix this I sooo want a little wolvar orphan. So cute even if they are jerks.
SamLowry May 2nd 2010 2:33PM
I can't even pick up an orphan, either, and Hail to the King is all I need to get Long, Strange Trip.
So yeah, I'm a little ticked.
artifex May 3rd 2010 2:58AM
They're adorable. I took the wolvar orphan around last year and saw his fragile little ego. :)
Zahira May 3rd 2010 7:27AM
@ Sam Lowry - you should still be able to get the orphan from shatrath, stormwind/ogrimar to complete hail to the king...the dalaran one is bugged on my server too but I was able to get the other two orphans with no issue and used the SW one to do all the PVP achievements. Hope that helps you

@Zahira
For me, at least, some of the other matrons are also buggy. SW in particular.

Blizzard are making a bit of a fool of themselves, considering that this particular glitch has occurred before on several occassions.
I do hope they will either fix it fast or extend the event.

You aren't aware of how many lines of code are in this game, are you? It takes time to find the cause of a bug and if it's something that occurs over a large portion of code and what not, it will take time. This is hardly game breaking so just chill.
Mehrik May 2nd 2010 2:27PM
In fact often bugs are found and fixed quickly. But any changes to a code base, such as WoWs, require all kinds of testing and vetting before the changes can be released. It is not as simple as a coder finding a bad line, fixing it and flipping the switch to make it live.
