Official: Dalaran Children's Week quests not repeatable this year

Bornakk -- Dalaran Children's Week Quest Line IssueWe are aware of the issue that is currently affecting the Children's Week quest line in Dalaran which does not allow players who have completed the quest line last year to take part in it again this year. We do not currently have a fix planned to address this issue at this point in time.
Bashlok -- Dalaran Children's Week Quest Line IssueTo clarify, this issue won't be able to be resolved for Children's Week this year. If you completed the quest previously you won't be able to complete it again for the other pet this year.

Both my alts are level 80. I have used the dialogue from the matron to no avail. I have checked in and out of dungeon queues. I filed a ticket which received the answer "This is a known issue." I posted in Customer Service and nothing. =/

So let me get this right, people who have already done it can't, but if you just started this year, you'll be able to do it next year as well? How is that fair?
Donegan May 4th 2010 7:22PM
It's simple. Orphan Matron Aria is a socialist.
Nadi May 4th 2010 7:25PM
It's not, and no one is saying it is. That's just the way it is, though.
As we've seen, they're almost always able to fix these holiday bugs, but this one's just not worth the resource allocation at this time. I trust Blizzard's assessment of that.
Try not to drown in the spilled milk.

The way I understand it, those who did the Dalaran orphan quests when they were introduced last fall effectively got to do that portion of this year's Children's Week several months early. Those quests were not yet available during Children's Week 2009, so those were really a sneak preview of the 2010 quests. From that perspective, nobody is out anything. If you can't pick up the Dal quests now it's because you did them already for this year. Nobody will have both the Oracle and Wolvar pets until Children's Week 2011. It sounds eminently fair to me. Why all the QQ?

"The way I understand it, those who did the Dalaran orphan quests when they were introduced last fall effectively got to do that portion of this year's Children's Week several months early."
It was stated when the quests were introduced last fall that they were originally intended to be introduced in 2009's Children's Week but due to time constraints, were not. If no one was intended to be able to repeat the quests until the 2011 Children's Week there was no reason to for them to implement them in the fall on 2009 in what players were led to believe was akin to a one-time rescheduling of the quest.
"If you can't pick up the Dal quests now it's because you did them already for this year." Not technically. I did them in last year's make up that you prefer to consider a sneak preview. See, it's all in how you look at it.
"Why all the QQ?"
Because people don't like to wait.

Rajah, nice to see someone out there is looking at this from the same perspective I am instead of bringing out the pitchforks and torches (Seriously, the amount of rage on the official forum post is staggering to say the least).
Personally, I think of it as the holidays have a 1 year cooldown. You did your Shattrath Orphan chain last year? Hey! It's off cooldown. However, those who did their Dalaran orphan in the fall, it's still on Cooldown. Downside? The event doesn't last until they come off of cooldown. Next year? All quests will be off of cooldown and ready to do!
Perfect world? No. But hardly enough to storm the gates of Blizzard over imo.

Why not just make the holiday longer?
SamLowry May 4th 2010 11:11PM
Because then people would actually expect them to fix it. But since Blizz is so busy with Cataclysm and SC2, well, how can they actually be expected to spend a little time to make sure their cash cow is working?
Anyway, HA! HA! at those who voted me down on Sunday for saying Blizz should really test this crap ahead of time to make sure it really does work. So much for "I'm sure they'll have it up in no time!"
Bananacup May 5th 2010 4:17AM
Yes, because having freaking hildrens week which not everyone participates in working perfectly would be so worth SC2 and cata being buggy pieces of crap.
...Since it's the internet and it's hard to tell i'm going to throw you a bone and tell you I was being sarcastic.
SamLowry May 5th 2010 7:06AM
Once again the "We're busy" excuse pops up. I'm sure, though, that if someone found a new way to gank people into coordinate point 0,0,0 we'd see a flurry of patching, but for such a minor little problem like this, nothing.
Must be really tough getting anything done with only, oh, twenty people on their staff. And I'm being sarcastic--I'm sure they actually have twenty-five people on their staff.

C'est la vie...

Thanks for the update - I'd been wondering if this issue had gotten fixed in last night's maintenance.
Hopefully they'll have it fixed in time for next year.
Siorra May 4th 2010 7:39PM
You'd think so, wouldn't you?
Schadenfreude May 4th 2010 7:25PM
Umm, this is kind of silly. Why wouldn't they make it available when they DO fix it? :/
Jez May 4th 2010 7:26PM
What a bunch of fucking gyppos...
At least acknowledge your fuck-up and give us some gold,...
... or something...
Fuckin'.... pony..... 'r.... new hat, or somethin'.
Hot-dang.
wutsconflag May 4th 2010 7:31PM
Star pony is that way ---->
(It'll cost you $25 USD.)
Grumblecakes May 4th 2010 7:30PM
Frankly, I'm not surprised that they made this decision. It'd be a little unfair (not much, mind you, but a little) to be able to get both pets in a six month period, instead of a one year period as is clearly meant to be the rule. I'm sure they could fix it if they wanted to, but their decision not to makes sense.
V Magius May 4th 2010 7:33PM
It's probably rather simple since GMs can reset a quest for you. They should just be able to reset everyone on the quest. Since it's a repeatable yearly quest, it should have the protections necessary to screw it up. Then, again, if it was that simple, they probably would have gone that route or claim it will be fixed later this week. Reset on Thursday and everyone has a chance at it.
Toddo May 4th 2010 7:32PM
That's some good quality assurance you got there, Blizzard.
