Official: Dalaran Children's Week quests not repeatable this year

Bornakk -- Dalaran Children's Week Quest Line IssueWe are aware of the issue that is currently affecting the Children's Week quest line in Dalaran which does not allow players who have completed the quest line last year to take part in it again this year. We do not currently have a fix planned to address this issue at this point in time.
Bashlok -- Dalaran Children's Week Quest Line IssueTo clarify, this issue won't be able to be resolved for Children's Week this year. If you completed the quest previously you won't be able to complete it again for the other pet this year.

Some advice for the haters from a full time computer programmer...
1. Go look at a Cataclysm screenshot.
2. Smile at how pretty it is.
3. Now realize that pretty picture is going to become your game in probably less then nine months.
4. Now take your foot out of your mouth and thank the Blizzard Programmers and Designers for working so hard on something 75% of which your getting for free.
5. Do you want to wait another 2-4 weeks for cataclysm because Blizzard had to stop and test/tweak a quest line that you received outside of Children's Week last year?
...didn't think so
SamLowry May 4th 2010 11:44PM
So we should be okay with Blizz letting the game coast on its training wheels for the next few months because they have so much to do?
Okay, so maybe they'll get around to fixing things at the end of July after SC2 comes out...but then they'll still be working on Cataclysm. Hmm, maybe after Cataclysm comes out they'll be able to catch up on their maintenance...but then they'll be working on Diablo 3. Hmm, maybe after Diablo 3 comes out...um, they'll still be working on MMO#2...so, uh, it looks like they really have NO time for bug fixes.
Tough luck for us, I guess.

If the problem where crippling to the game then of course not, but dropping a few F bombs on blizzards doorstep just because ya cant get a single freebie pet is nothing short of childish. Be appreciative for what you have and what you are getting. If you still have something to say then let it be constructive.
How about being thankful for even getting the damn quest last year when it was several weeks after "Children's Week". They didn't have to release it, but hey you DESERVE a free pet.
Glaras May 5th 2010 7:20AM
First, I'm a little puzzled at what you think I'm getting for free, that I should be "grateful" for.
Second, from a computer programmer QA perspective (since we're dishing our real-world experience and all), this shouldn't have slipped through. You see, it *was* working. Now it's not. That's called "a failure in regression testing". And frankly, we see that alot.
Yes, yes. "It's a complicated program. And besides, it's only a game." I keep hearing that kind talk from people who try to insist that my expectations as a paying customer that the software I use will be properly tested need to be lowered, because the software isn't being used in an ICU.
You're a programmer, so maybe your QA inclinations aren't as stringent as mine, but the end user's QA expectations will always be 100%. Asking them to cut us some slack never works, no matter how "reasonable" you think you're being.

If Blizzard legally obligated to give you this content?
Yes? Then consider this my apology to MR. QQ SamLowry
No? Then Blizzard does not owe you anything. This is extra content beyond what you signed for when you purchased this game and with every content patch. That means your expectations are out of line. Expecting a little gratitude for the extra content ;however; is not. I work a lot harder for customers who appreciate my work. Don't you?
SamLowry May 5th 2010 10:47PM
If a customer got upset because I screwed up, I would be expected to apologize and make amends as soon as humanly possible. But if instead I tell them "Tough shit", I'd be fired in a heartbeat.
"Not this year" sounds an awful lot like "Tough shit". Or maybe it might actually be closer to "Go screw yourself".
Your fanboyish groveling at the altar of Blizzard has grown tiresome. If you fellate them on the official boards maybe they'll give you a job in customer service.

Just a small problemette I encountered. Having done the whole Long Strange Trip, Pain, Stocism achieve last year on one character, I'm trying to do it on another, who's already got one Dal orphan pet. Made the BIG mistake of going for the 2 orphan pets in SW and Shatt thinking I'd be able to get another orphan in Dal to complete the other achievements such as UP etc. Handed in the other 2 orphans... oops, one in Dal isn't there. So just a warning for everyone. Don't hand in the other orphans till you've done all your achieves, if you're in the same situation. Bit stupid of me.. should've checked. Never mind.
Bronwyn May 4th 2010 11:05PM
Just FYI if you talk to the shatt or org/SW orphan matrons, they will give you a whistle so you can still summon an orphan.
Velaxis May 4th 2010 11:49PM
@Bronwyn. Thanks a bunch, didn't realise that! :)

The dal quest didn't show up on my server until well after children's week last year, it was like Julyish maybe even later and stayed for a long time.
Maybe this is the problem, it was on some kind of timer and isn't set to go off until later on. I am not sure if this was the case on all servers but on Eldra'Thalas it was NOT part of Children's week, it just kinda showed up one day.
SamLowry May 4th 2010 11:48PM
...but then nobody can reset the timers because they're all busy making Cataclysm for us.
No can do, too busy. Sorry 'bout that--better luck next year. Or the year after that. Or the year after that....
Scooter May 5th 2010 1:46AM
If it were that simple Sam they would have done it.
Sick Freak May 4th 2010 11:42PM
Well Poop on a stick. :( I was looking forward to getting my Wolvar pup this year.
MagicNat May 5th 2010 1:00AM
I blame Breanni. She was probably too busy rounding up new mini pets for Cat and forgot to get enough orphan pets for Dalaran.
Al May 5th 2010 2:18AM
Fantastic. Not only did they suddenly and silently change Children's Week on the Oceanic realms to only activate when the U.S realms did to save the effort, now they can't even be bothered fixing it this year.
Mushanga May 5th 2010 3:25AM
Pffff, that's just lazy. I know I'm probably underestimating the amount of work it would take but come on, we're talking about Blizzard here. If anyone's got the skilled coders it'd them.
Alassiel May 5th 2010 3:48AM
I cry foul. This was supposed to be the year I finally finished with all the childrens week pets for every xpack. Sad, sad times.
Shadamehr May 5th 2010 4:30AM
I think Bashlok's clarification needs clarification.
A) He is saying that you cannot get the 2nd Dalaran pet this year during Children's Week if you got one last year.
B) But is he also saying you will have to wait till next year (a total of 2 years) to get the 2nd pet ?
C) If that's the case then, for better customer relations and rapport, he really needs to explain why. To simply say No Pet for You ! is just bad form.
D) If we do have to wait another year, why not just mail the pet now to all those who did the quests last year ?
Aceman67 May 5th 2010 5:41AM
if I can't do the dalaran ones this year, how come the Stormwind and Shatt orphens aren't doable either.
