Short version: Higher item level is good. Higher item level with haste is even better. :)

That's about the size of it, although I was surprised to discover just how good some 245 and tier 8-era pieces still are. Post-3.3, haste is just too valuable.

When I was in ToC gear, I had 850 haste. I "upgraded" to ICC gear and dropped my haste so low that I had to pick up Celestial Focus again.
