Tuesday Morning Post: We dislike NDAs edition
Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. It looks like the wheels may finally be in motion, inexorably turning toward the release of Cataclysm. Community Manager Zarhym has confirmed that the family and friends alpha is under way, and signs of the beta have begun to crop up on the official site. Could an actual NDA-free beta be close behind?
Speaking of NDAs and betas, now's a good time to remind people of a few things: First, beta invites have not gone out, so if you get an invite in your in-box, be careful. It's very, very likely a scam. Second, the family and friends alpha is under a Non-Disclosure Agreement, so it's likely we won't get much new information, if any, until that's released.
Beyond that, there was plenty of other news dropping this week. Children's Week is upon us again, the night elf mohawk has returned and Cataclysm news continues to trickle out, among other things. We do have the usual 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pacific downtime window this morning, so since you can't log on to WoW, why not read on? Our usual weekly roundup of the news awaits.

Where did you get that? I'm tempted to call "Fake!" but it looks like an actual WoW model.

Looks like an in game model viewer, since you can (sorta) see the players name waaay above Deathwings head...

Take a look at the water under the bridge. Looks like the improved graphics suggesting this is from the alpha and not currently datamine-able client data. As far as I can tell this is friends and family leak # 1.

I have to agree with Narshe. I believe it is the model viewer.

I have the lastest version of the model viewer installed on my computer, which I use for my webcomic creation.
Deathwing isn't there.
Plus, there's blue nametag above the body that is a two-name entry (the second name begins with a capital "A", but I can't make it out) meaning that this is a named creature.
As for why it's in the visage of Deathwing? Dunno...but based upon these things, plus the lighting, shadows, water engine and proper placement, I'd have to say that this is 100% legit.

If this is anything like WoTLK FnF alpha, it's easy to expect leaks, FnF really don't know how to keep their mouth shut, especially when it's so hard to trace who leaked the info in the first place.
mbeck May 4th 2010 11:19AM
^this - I'm not sure why the original author thought little new information would come from the alpha? I am not in the alpha, and as such don't know any details of the agreement, but as with anything, what fun is it if you can't share. Yes, these people aren't going to hold press conferences or post on the blizz forums, but with hundreds of virtually untraceable ways to leak info onto the net these days via 3rd party systems I'm not sure what will stop them if that's what they intend to.

What the hell is a NDA?
@Daniel Whitcomb - Come on man, you know better than this, as a writer you have to first present the reader with the whole phrase before you can refer to the abbreviation throughout the text. Sheesh!
