Battle.net will integrate with Facebook

Vaneras -- Battle.net Facebook IntegrationOf course, the integration will be voluntary. This announcement does not mean that all those friends you have in Facebook just to increase your mafia will automatically know you are playing WoW. You will choose if you want to integrate and which friends to import.

Blizzard PRBlizzard Entertainment's next-generation online gaming platform will integrate with Facebook to enhance social gaming experience.
PARIS, France – May 5, 2010 - Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. announced today that its Battle.net® gaming service will integrate with Facebook®, linking the world's premier online gaming platform with the world's most popular social platform. The first step in the integration will enable StarCraft® II: Wings of Liberty™ players to quickly add Blizzard gamers who are friends on Facebook to their Battle.net friend lists, facilitating their social gaming experience on the service.
"We're pleased to be working with Facebook to integrate their platform with Battle.net to enhance the social-entertainment experience for our players," said Paul Sams, chief operating officer of Blizzard Entertainment. "This new functionality will make it easier than ever to connect with friends on Battle.net and play StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games together."
The new Facebook functionality in Battle.net will be tested in the near future via the ongoing StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty beta test and will be available to all StarCraft II players when the game ships later this year. Information about other Facebook-related features on Battle.net will be announced at a later date.
Facebook® is a registered trademark of Facebook Inc.

What's Facebook?
Just kidding, I'm actually for this change. I love things integrating and this is no exception!
Torlaz May 5th 2010 12:56PM
Just another way/tool to Refer-A-Friend spam for more sub.
*Tom is looking for someone to play WoW with. *

Yeah, Blizzard will make it optional on their end, but Facebook will opt you in without your consent and then you have to navigate through a labyrinth, don a barbarian war-bikini, survive a zergling rush, and kill Onyxia in order to opt out.
And my family wonders why I don't use FB more...
Falcon6 May 5th 2010 12:56PM
Yeah, if Facebook was able to actually make it easy to do some of the things they complicate, I would be much happier with the service. Nowadays, I just use it for random "hi"s and such.

MANY "LIKES." HANDLE THEM.

Someone give this man a prize.

Luckily, I don't have a Facebook (nor do I want one), so this "integration" thing shouldn't affect me (although, if I start seeing Farmville spam via Battle.net, I might just have to go hurt some people...).
thegatherer May 5th 2010 12:55PM
LOL bob, I was just going to say that. So, the final boss in the expac after Cata will be..
Annoying Facebook Stalker

hmmmm.... do not mind me, apparently me and the reply system do not get along.
hpkomic May 5th 2010 12:58PM
I would so love to have some sort of auction tool through facebook, or some small game on facebook that could turn into rewards in WoW.
KillerKarl May 5th 2010 12:57PM
Well it is voluntary, at least for the time being. I was worried there for a minute that Blizzard was going to force us to get facebook accounts. Would have been the end of my Blizzard gaming.
Stan Marsh May 5th 2010 1:18PM
I am NOT getting sucked into Facebook.
Geo Lara May 5th 2010 1:01PM
I'm totally supportive of this because I've been lobbing to get our guild members off guild portal and on to a FB group and this could make my job easier.
I'd rather schedule a raid via an event with a tool that a lot of people use anyway than give folks yet another online profile to manage.
Cetha May 5th 2010 1:31PM
Our guild just recently moved to a facebook page instead. It's been a HUGE help in getting people to actually use the guild site.
DigitalRacer May 5th 2010 1:03PM
Does this mean I can make an addon to play Farmville in WoW. How cool!

Oh, BTW
"You have 0 friends"

In other news, Facebook Chat is down today because of a GRIEVOUS PRIVACY FAILURE that has recently occurred, which allows one user to look at the private chats of anyone on their friends list. Do we really want Blizz in the same pool as these guys? I somehow don't trust it.
