This paragraph mystifies me: "Gathering skills are considered to be inferior to production skills, due to the ease of leveling a gathering skill and the fact that it generates a solid income for the player. Production skills, on the other hand, require a large investment of both time and money. They reward us with the ability to make some very powerful items, and similarly reward us with better perks as well. If you're looking to maximize your rogue's potential, you should leave your gathering skills behind and use two different production skills. You can always use an alt to farm materials with, or use other means of making an income."
You're saying gathering is inferior to production because it's easier to level with and because it makes money. Something is bad because it's easy and because it gives you cash? That makes no sense. The inferiority because of numerically inferior bonuses I buy, but this reason doesn't work.
Also, I appear to be in the minority here, but I really prefer to having (one) gathering skill on my main. Why? Because I actually *play* my main, and hence I'm constantly flying over herb nodes on my way to raids or between dailies or whatnot. That is, having the gathering on my main means that gathering happens automatically while I'm doing something else. Having gathering on an alt means I have to devote special time to logging over to an alt and saying "ok, time to go farm now". That's not something I enjoy doing. But like I said, maybe I'm in the minority

Mining and herbalism don't give you DPS boosts. Skinning's DPS boost is inferior to the crafting professions' boosts. The reason Blizz doesn't balance the underlying bonuses is for the reason given: you get gold from gathering (to buy better gear/gems/enchants), so you don't need as strong of an underlying bonus for the tradeskill.
As a result, having two crafting professions, even if it's not profitable or convenient, is superior in terms of the main purpose of a rogue: doing damage.

He is referring to the fact the two crafting professions will give your character more of a DPS boost vs making money. Gathering skills don't really add much (little stam, crit, healing) to a characters output vs two crafting professions.

Totally agree. I refuse to drop Mining on my rogue because I know I won't play my other characters enough to get the materials I need. :c I just leveled a Tailor / Alchemist and it was one of the worst experiences I've had in the game. Constantly having to switch characters to go farm herbs only to mail them and switch back.
Guh.

I dunno, my rogue's min/skin and so far it's great.
Or at least, my LW/Eng hunter main that I raid on is pretty happy with it. :)
