We made them Feats of Strength before (no points). We will likely do the same for 85. They are kind of fun.
Ghostcrawler -- Resto Druid Rotation & FSRQuote:
I'm still not clear where you are going with resto druids specifically, though- in particular why you maintain that we already have a good tank healing rotation when no guild in their right mind would choose a resto druid over a holy pally for tank healing. If we're going to be going into Cata with druids offering present-day lifebloom and healing touch to compete with holy light, I think a guild officer would be committing gamer malpractice by taking the druid ahead of the pally.

Right, my point though was that you do have a good tank healing rotation. In a world in which druids were the only healer, you could put druids on the MT and druids on the raid and do fine... probably a lot better than trying to do the same thing with a Disc priest or Holy paladin.
In Cataclysm, we'd ideally like for you to put a druid on the tank and a paladin on the raid if that works better for your group. I agree that would be raid malpractice (usually) trying to do that today. :)

I remember Vanilla and healing too sitting all the time waiting for mana to regen after every pull it seemed. I am in complete agreement with you if the game goes back to sitting and drinking after every pull I can tell you this much i wont be playing a healer it sucked to have to make a choice oh this person dies or that person dies take your pick one person is dieing because I dont have enough mana to heal both.
We're changing the 5 second rule to just be an out of combat rule, so you can regen your mana pretty quickly in between pulls. You'll likely want to still drink before boss attempts (even in a 5-player dungeon), but that's typical even today. Ghostcrawler -- Rogue LevelingRogue leveling is getting some pretty significant changes for Cataclysm. The original intent seemed to be that you would constantly be in stealth using openers on targets. That's fine for particularly powerful foes, but it gets pretty tedious when you have to approach every single kill quest that way.
A related problem is things dying so quickly that you don't ever really get a chance to use finishing moves.

Ghostcrawler -- Armor Pen for WarriorsQuote:
Because whats the point in giving us a passive ArP buff after you remove all gems and other such items from the game?
Because whats the point in giving us a passive ArP buff after you remove all gems and other such items from the game?
Well, it likely won't be "massive" and more importantly, it will be controlled. We can decide exactly how much armor pen you can get out of your talent tree and you won't be able to go over that by getting more powerful gear or skewing your stat choices so heavily in one direction.
Ghostcrawler -- What will Wrath stat gems become? Some gems will change. Armor pen gems will be going away. Some gems are changing color. At the moment we think we'll probably keep current attack power and spellpower gems, though if you are a min-maxer it's possible you'd be better off changing to Agility or Intellect.
Because some gems are changing color, you may gain or lose some socket bonuses you have now. In general, not many players take those very seriously so hopefully it won't be a big issue. It's possible you might have to do something to keep a meta gem bonus.
We'll try and announce all of the changes (though you'll probably get all of the info out of the public beta too) in plenty of time that not too many folks will be surprised when the changes go live.
It's not ideal to change existing gear on players obviously, but given the scope of the Cataclysm changes (including changing so many stats and talent trees), there is going to have to be a little bit of relearning. In this case it's really only an issue for the short window in between when the new rules go into effect and the Cataclysm itself (opening up new zones, level cap, etc.) actually occurs.

It's been awhile, but I believe this is the plan, yes. So for the most part, if you have heirlooms right now they will work fine for most new characters, then when you get to Cataclysm zones you will start using the quest rewards for 81-85. At 85 you can get new heirlooms that will probably fit the 81-85 experience better. Yes, all of this could change too.
Ancliorn -- Flying Mounts at 85 ClarificationQuote:
I didn't know that they were making 310 flying trainable. If they are then this should also cost a LOT of gold, around 16k would be appropriate.

It certainly is happening, but it will only be purchasable by characters who are level 85. Players who already own a 310% mount will be 'gifted' the training, and it goes without saying that once the skill is learned all flying mounts will become 310% mounts. That's the current plan at least, and we don't plan on offering any further speed increases to these mounts.

Ah, relearning. It was fun to play around with the new talents in Wrath. With practically three entire trees of new talents, plus stat changes, gem changes, likely enchant changes, plus all the new content? Kid in a candy store.
What I've been awaiting all this time, ever since Blizzcon, is those danged new talent trees. I know that's probably one of the last things we'll get, if we even see them before Beta, but I had so much fun with the updated ones, I can't wait to mess around with these. Everything else is tiding me over (albeit pretty well at times).

Hmmmm, about the 310% speed flying. He says that if you already have a mount it will be gifted, or, if you don't have one of those mounts, it will be trainable at 85. That would mean that people who bought a Celestial Steed would be granted a skill above every other player who did not buy one of the steeds. IDK if it is really that big of a deal (because you can still earn a 310% speed mount in game), but if they make 310% speed flying somewhat expensive, I can see a lot of people getting very, VERY, angry that some people bought there way into it......even though $25 is a lot of money to spend on flight training.
jordan May 6th 2010 12:26AM
No, that is not correct, the steed is not a 310% mount on it's own, it will go up to 310% speed if you have a 310% mount (like swift flight form).
Zrob May 6th 2010 12:22AM
Celestial Steed does not grant 310 flying for purchase. If you already have a 310 it will fly at 310, but it you do not, it will not.
C.J.Katz May 6th 2010 12:22AM
The Celestial Steed is not a 310% mount, so the people who buy it won't be getting anything extra out of it come Cataclysm.
Fletcher May 6th 2010 12:24AM
Um, what? The sparklepony doesn't innately go at 310% speed. Unless sparklepony owners have somehow got their hands on a violet protodrake or similar, they'll only be flying at 280% (presuming they've bought epic flying). They'll have to buy 310% flying at level 85 like the rest of us. I don't know how you got the idea that sparklepony owners would get 310% flying free of charge - all they've bought is the *mount*, it doesn't come with the riding training!
Eric J. May 6th 2010 12:24AM
If I'm not mistaken, a Celestial Steed is only 310% if you've already got another 310% mount. So SparklePony owners won't be gifted 310 flying unless they would have been anyway.
Michael May 6th 2010 12:27AM
What are you talking about? The Celestial Steed only goes to whatever highest speed of mounts you *already* own on each toon. So no, you will need to earn a mount or purchase it before the Celestial Steed would be a 310 mount.
windstalker668 May 6th 2010 12:48AM
Oh, my bad then, well, I guess my whole question is moot then. I still have feeling that some people will be upset that others got the flying "for free" (even though they did the achievements to earn it) while they have to pay for it.
Blondies May 6th 2010 3:26AM
I will imagine that Legendary(?) flying will be at least another couple of thousands of gold, which will make quite a few go "It's not worth the gold just to fly a little faster". They'll just wait until they get an acheivement/pvp/drop mount that flies at 310%.
begedinnikola May 6th 2010 3:53AM
Why was this person downrated? He raised a question in a polite way and admitted his mistake when he was told why he was wrong. I was under the impression that downrating serves as a way to determine if a post was useful to the discussion. I'm pretty sure this one was.
He gets a thumbs up from me, even though he was wrong.
Thundrcrackr May 6th 2010 9:52AM
"all flying mounts will become 310% mounts"
I assume he means all EPIC (280%) flying mounts and not the regular flying mounts? And if it DOES include regular flying mounts (which would be cool) then regular ground mounts should go at epic ground mount speed once you train for that, as well.

"We'll try and announce all of the changes (though you'll probably get all of the info out of the public beta too) in plenty of time that not too many folks will be surprised when the changes go live. "
Sadly, he says this and people will still be foaming at the mouth about the changes when Cata goes live.
I know some people don't like spoilers and such, but is game mechanics part of it? Even if I didn't want to know about quests, zones or lore coming up, I'd like to know about core character changes so I can be ready to go when it goes live. A stack of epic gems ready for cutting. Enchanting mats. Whatever I can afford to help me level to 85.
Fletcher May 6th 2010 12:28AM
I think a lot of people don't follow WoW.com or MMO-Champion or the Blizzard forums, and are going to be utterly ignorant of all the information divulged through blue posts, and will be taken off guard when 4.0 hits and suddenly their treeform is a cooldown or whatever.
On the one hand, you shouldn't have to read third-party sites to play the game (and Blizzard has been pretty good about not making you have to do so), but on the other hand, if the information is out there they've no right to whine about it after the fact. People should be getting their whining out of the way now ... but some of them won't, and we'll have to suffer the QQ in-game.
cwallis24 May 6th 2010 1:43AM
I think there will be far more people who are happy to experiment with new stuff than there will be who have a sincere grief with losing their gems and cookie-spec. Most people I know who play often also like to experiment constantly. Big Changes = Big Fun, as long as they are properly spread out.
There are always the types who vote conservative because change bothers them...
Stephen May 6th 2010 2:12AM
I run a fine line about spoilers. My general rule is I want to know new mechanics, but avoid major story issues. That's worked out well, especially with the Tree Form change. Got my RAGE out early. :-)
adyuaa May 6th 2010 2:14AM
I know a lot more people who don't like to experiment than people who do, but the non-experimenters are far more likely to come to the experimenters for advice (read: tell me what to do and don't make me make decisions) than spend a long time crying over changes.
It helps that most experimenters in my guild are more than happy to talk at length about what they know or have discovered.
Nekosama37 May 6th 2010 12:22AM
The sparkle pony does not go 310 speed unless you have a 310 speed mount.
