I don't see the article as QQ at all. It raises a valid concern: paladin AoE is overpowered, and our single target dps is underpowered. This is already becoming a problem for paladins in raids, where AoE is usually not that important. In Cataclysm where, we are told, AoE will be de-emphasized, it stands to be an even bigger problem.The other problem ret paladins, in particular, face is that our mix of defensive and offensive capabilities makes us very difficult to balance. In solo play, there is no stronger class, and our godlike AoE plus survivability make us the Lords of Random Instances. Similarly, it makes us strong in BGs where play is chaotic and disorganized. Since these are the scenarios that most casual players see, there is a popular perception of ret as OPed. Because we are, especially in the first two situations.Conversely, our limited offence leaves us at the bottom of the pack in raid dps (along with Shamen, who face similar balance issues) and, coupled with our terrible mobility, makes us a singularly weak arena class. These are areas that your more hardcore players tend to prioritize. So amongst arena junkies and hardcore raiders, there is a perception of ret as underpowered. Which we also are.The upshot is a class that has wild swings in performance. Serious players, like myself, want to see changes that will improve raiding and arena, and we don't care if we take a nerf to solo/small group play to get it. However, the majority of players probably feel the opposite.It's not an easy situation to resolve given the basic class mechanics, but I think the move to lower ret survivability and improve its offence (i.e. make it more of a pure dps spec) makes a lot of sense. I also think that it makes no sense at a conceptual level for paladins to be the game's primary AoE class, so I welcome any changes that fix this.
