Cataclysm: Halls of Origination information on official site

Blizzard just unveiled more information about one of the new dungeons in Cataclysm -- the Halls of Origination, located in the desert zone of Uldum.
"The Halls of Origination in Uldum is a level-85 five-player dungeon available in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, featuring an unparalleled journey through the timeless titan construction and seven unique boss fights. Hidden deep within its halls lies an ancient treasure that, if placed in the wrong hands, could endanger all life on Azeroth. Should players survive the perils of Uldum, they will be called to help Brann Bronzebeard unlock the mysteries within these treacherous titan halls and protect the titans' ancient secrets."
The place looks amazing, with a very Egyptian motif. Blizzard says this instance will have seven separate bosses, which is a surprisingly large number for a post-vanilla five-man instance. Check out the images and boss information on the official site!
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it. Nothing will be the same. In WoW.com's Guide to Cataclysm you can find out everything you need to know about WoW's third expansion. From Goblins and Worgens to Mastery and Guild changes, it's all there for your cataclysmic enjoyment.Filed under: Cataclysm

Longer heroics are back! Thank god!
Don't get me wrong, I like heroics that you can blitz through in under a half hour, but I miss the longer, more-indepth dungeons too.
Maybe there can be a mix of them this time, Blizz? Yes yes?
Nodonn May 6th 2010 2:46PM
You'll be begging for short heroics when you've done the long ones hundreds of times.
Cyanea May 6th 2010 2:54PM
Probably.
But up until that point, I'll be having a blast. I'll probably be running the long ones with guildies-only anyway, just like in Vanilla.

Never forget the queue; it turns a half-hour dungeon into a 45 minute dungeon depending on your class.
I will take multiple sections of the same dungeon - think the new Maraudon sectionals in the LFD leveling tool - over a single long dungeon any day.

With the new system with points instead of emblems and a max limit per week hopefully you don't need to do heroics everyday if you raid instead. So yeah, looking forward to longer heroics if I don't need to run them hundreds of time for 1,5 years.

Also, a lot of those bosses are probably going to be skippable, for when the time comes for heroics to be more about getting the 2 daily random badges (if they even keep that system at all) than being "progress content".

Long ones. Yay! I still enjoy Wailing Caverns. I think they should make a distinction between long and short heroics in the dungeon finder somehow. So you can select *queue for short heroic* *queue for long heroic* maybe have the long ones give an extra reward or something so it's worth the time. The wham bam thank you ma'am heroics get a little tiresome. Sometimes I just want to get down and do something that takes an hour.

Brann, would you help us in battle this time?
Um, put on some plate gear, can you?
johnthediver May 6th 2010 2:47PM
When is someone going to kill that guy already? All the problems we have seem to come from that dude meddling where he doesn't belong.

Johnthediver: No one kills Brann Bronzebeard. He's way too awesome.
Avan May 6th 2010 3:16PM
He probably won't. Look at some of the leaked Cata info from today and read back on this preview, and you'll get an idea. Hint: "help Brann unlock mysteries"
Rai May 6th 2010 6:31PM
I bet there's at least another Tribunal-like encounter.
Ol' Brann's spankin' ain't over yet.

It seems that while Cataclysm is continuing to embrace and extend the lessons learned in BC and Wrath, there is definitely a motive to revisit the gameplay and style of vanilla.

It's a new design team. We'll have to suffer through them relearning what the first team did.
Personally, I'm not liking a lot of what this "B-Team" is doing.
Arashikou May 6th 2010 3:53PM
@Gilgamesh
I hadn't heard that before, that a different design team was working on Cata than had previously worked on WoW. Can you point me at a source for that?
CaryEverett May 6th 2010 4:02PM
The B-Team has been working on WoW for a while now. Ghostcrawler himself is part of the B-Team.
Blizzard basically went on a huge hiring spree near the end of Burning Crusade, and assigned those new people to work on WotLK, and moved their A-Team to work on Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, and their new secret MMO.
WotLK, Death Knights, 10 and 25 man raiding, PvE/PvP transfers, race change, faction change, all the long list of traditions that Blizzard has overturned recently were all decisions made by the B-Team.
For better or for worse, I agree with some of their decisions, and abhor other decisions they have made. The B-Team is really willing to bend their design decisions based on the forums in a way that the A-Team never did (At least not in these sorta quantities).
Ghostcrawler, and the rest of the B-Team basically hopped in and was all like "Okay new guys, we're going to fix all the things the old people did!" and they've kinda just been really hit and miss with all the stuff they've done.
Cedric May 6th 2010 4:36PM
@ Cary: B-Team huh? In my opinion they surpassed A-Team with their innovative ideas. I think most of what they implemented was very good for the game.
Jamus May 6th 2010 6:57PM
The rest of the A-Team might have left, but Mr. T stayed to toss us a few more Mohawk Gen-ades...
CrimsonEyedDeath May 6th 2010 2:32PM
This should be a raid, really. But I'm still convinced Ulduar was the best raid I've ever done, so......
I do like that it's longer than your average heroic. Though I wonder if that's going to cause people to quit when they see the queued up for it on their random.
Barinthos May 6th 2010 2:38PM
So it should be a raid because it has more than 4 bosses? I wasn't aware that 5 or more bosses = Raid only
I for one am glad there is a long 5 man coming in Cataclysm. After the 3 boss ICC dungeons, it left something to be desired as far as length and drop potential.
