i don't understand why people have this expectation that every tree ought to be both pve and pvp viable. that is a pipe dreaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam.

when a game has 10 classes' worth of diversity on the playing field, and three very unique sub-specializations per each class (not even getting into hybrids), there is mathematically no possible way to make each of the 30 potential choices equally appealing on a basis of being truly functionally unique, each of them pvp and pve functional, and to integrate each of them into a very balanced pvp landscape. the old adage quality over quantity can really be reinforced here; it makes much more design sense to carve out different roles (i.e. pvp, pve) of a class via multiple trees rather than to make three trees jack-of-all-trades. all that does is blur the lines between specs and dilute distinction, and really, rob the player of any meaningful decisions. if you don't like ice mage pve, well, there are 9 other classes to choose from! don't whine when you have two other trees that are amazing for dps; you can still pve (extremely well i might add) as a mage. that's the important thing.

so be happy frost is so dominant at one (very fun) aspect of the game! don't be greedy and unreasonable and ask for impossible things.
