In the busy, comfortable common room of the inn in Thelsamar, someone is passing around a well-handled letter addressed to Mama Sweetbarley. The words are carefully penned, the parchment pages smelling slightly of leather and oil:
Dear Mama and Papa and everyone else at home who will surely read this,
Hello from the great wide world! I know it seems like only a few weeks ago I left for Ironforge to see Uncle Donnaghal and then find my fortune beyond, but how amazing these weeks have turned out to be.
I am writing you from Kalimdor - it's a town called Auberdine, in the land of Darkshore. And it IS pretty dark, it's not just a clever name. I feel like I should always be carrying a lantern around here! But at least it's warm, if a bit muggy. Uncle Donn and his compatriots had me running errands and doing chores in Dun Morogh for a while, and it was so cold I thought my ears would fall off!
You would be proud of me, I am now learning how to make things from leather! Partially out of necessity, because my usual duds from days by the Loch weren't holding up to the mountain cold. My hands and face were getting so chapped, several of the Kharanos locals sent me back to Ironforge, and Uncle Donn told me the best idea would be for me to learn how to make my own clothes from the leather I skin. It was the best suggestion anyone ever made! I learned the basics from a friend of his and now I have yet another marketable skill. And Gran said I'd never make anything of myself! Ha!
I have yet to find a decent hat, by the way, Mama, so if you could see clear to cobbling something together for me ... You can ship it to Auberdine and hopefully it will find me. Also, feel free to ship some of your famous tarts, if you think they'll stand up to mailbox handling. While being out and about has been exciting and thrilling, I do feel a little homesick now and again, mainly for your cooking!
Anyhow, as you have probably guessed, Uncle Donn had a shipment of goods bound all the way to the other side of the world by way of Stormwind, and I managed to beg and barter my way into accompanying the shipment. He has promised me a job as a door-to-door mining pick salesperson if I ever change my mind about being an adventurer and explorer, wasn't that kind of him? I am planning to send him a great artifact or jewel or something ... once I find one, that is.
Now that I'm in Kalimdor, I expect I'll be here a little while. Although, I told the head of the trade train that if they needed a hand on their way back in a week or so I would travel with them. Until then, I am meeting all sorts of new people and seeing amazing things. I can't but wonder whether I'll ever tire of the awe I get from traveling and exploration!
Anyhow, I hope this letter finds you and everyone at home in excellent health. Both Sandburg and Tobias are well, I'm keeping them fed, and they send their love, I am sure.
Until the next time,
Much love,
Your diligent daughter,
Glynnis
