What hunter pets would you like to see tamable?

NethaeraWe're looking to get some feedback on the types of pets that hunters would like to be able to tame and the types of abilities that might be interesting for those pets to have. Is there a type of creature in the game now that you would like to be able to tame or an ability that you've always thought should be added? Here's your chance to share a bit more about what you think could be great additions for the hunter class.
Head on over and make sure to get your ideas in! Personally, I'd been saying for months on the Hunting Party that they should make pet special abilities debuffs to allow hunters to use a greater variety of pets in end game raiding and remain competitive with those nasty melee classes. Wolves are cool, and all, but are boring as sin when they're all you see.
So far, they've announced that, in Cataclysm:
- Wind Serpents will debuff spell damage taken
- Ravagers will provide a physical damage vulnerability
- Hyenas will provide a bleed damage magnifier
Of course, there would always have to be a personal DPS option. I think that the wolf's Furious Howl fits the bill perfectly in its current form, and so long as the personal DPS option is one of the classic hunter pet archetypes (wolves, cats, or bears), I'll be happy.
Another thing that they could do to make a lot of hunters happy would be to create a wider profile of not just debuffs, but buffs that pets could provide. Not to pick on shaman specifically, but if we could tame something that would act like a mobile Windfury Totem, or maybe provide a shorter/weaker Heroism, we could move that much closer toward bringing the player instead of the class.
As for PvP, right now the most commonly used pets have specials that stun or root opponents. If they wanted to broaden the pool of PvP abilities people use, they could add pets with specials that apply a Mortal Strike style healing debuff. I know, we already have Aimed Shot, but nobody has the ability to MS two players at once. If they needed to make sure this remained balanced, they could make it a little weaker than 50%, as well as prevent the uptime from passing some threshold. Or they could force the pet to channel it while stationary, so the target could escape the range easily. Either way, it would add some welcome depth to hunter PvP.
Lastly, I think we should be able to tame druids. Wait, don't close this browser yet! Hear me out! I think that during PvP, hunters should have a short term Mind Control they could cast that would allow them to temporarily replace their pet with a druid opponent. We can already fear them, so this doesn't go much farther than that. I'd totally support "Tame Druid" sharing a cooldown with Scare Beast. Now in addition to the druids' cacophony, I hear priests screaming at me. You want to keep your signature ability? Fine, make a tamed druid only as controllable as a pet and immune to falling damage. There's no easy way to throw your pet off a cliff in a battleground, short of Eyes of the Beast, and that could be made to not work.
What do you think? What new exotic pets or abilities should we have? Should we seriously be able to tame druids?

When I finally got my wife to start playing WoW, I picked a hunter for her since it was pretty easy to start at.
When I told her she could tame a pet, she wanted to have a moose pet. Unfortunately, there are no tameable moose in the game and she hasn't logged on in 4 months now.
PLEASE GIVE ME A MOOSE SO MY WIFE WILL PLAY!

Special ability: Fall over - Moose pet falls sideways onto target, causing 1000 physical damage and stunning it for 3 secs.

I too, support the taming of Mooses and all deer and elk like animals for the future.
Tirrimas May 10th 2010 2:26PM
...and to clarify: I would LOVE a moose pet. Even if it's just a vanity pet.

I would support the taming of meese. it would give me a reason to level my hunter again. He's stuck at 68 with a Rhino pet.

Well, a moose would certainly mean Ghostcrawler kept his promise. :P

Ghostcrawler promised me a moose!

I would totally reactivate my account if I could tame a moose and one of the special attacks would be moose knuckle!
MusedMoose May 10th 2010 6:50PM
I don't know what you guys are talking about - I've been in this game since 2007 at least.

Damn GC, I almost forgot about his promise.
A moose pet will be insane. But what would be more insane is to make pets on par with wolves. Problem is that the wolf is way too good compared to other pets. Make all the other pets have the howl ability in the talent tree.
A bonus if I could as crazy as it sounds is make all pets tamable without beast mastery. And allow the beast mastery talent that allows exotic pets allow the user to tame 2 pets at the same time. To balance I guess the talent would do something similar like the titan grip nerf and reduce the amount of damage the pets do by 10%.
This could also add to depth to BM dps. Maybe the pets will do more damage based on the timing of their attacks together. Maybe animal A does a bleed effect that increases damage with every stack. And animal B does a attack that does allot of damage based on how many stacks there is. But when done gets rid of the stacks.
Doesn't that sound cool at all?

We should definitely be able to tame druids, provided they are in a 'beast' form like bear or cat. Not necessarily on a permanent basis, but temporarily.
Meatwadz May 10th 2010 2:18PM
Tame druids? Sure! But for sake of balance I'd like [Dismantle] in kitty form only usable on hunters. kthanks.
Basil Berntsen May 10th 2010 2:25PM
In my defense, we already have a fear that works on you in kitty form. This would share a cooldown and have all the same disadvantages, as well as possibly some new ones.
Therar May 10th 2010 2:32PM
I was just thinking that. It'll be hard to get added since it'll only be useful in PvP and you never know if a Druid will be present.
But if it was added, the Druid would lose control of their character for a short duration and under the control of the hunter, as well as not be able to be attacked by players of the opposing faction. Alternatively, the Druid will attack a player of its own faction w/o being under the control of the hunter nor can be attacked by players of the opposing faction during this time.

So you want to tame a druid, while he's in beast form.
And of course, you'll consent to the same terms as usual, right? You have to stand still and channel, can't attack or defend, and are immediately flagged as attackable, for the duration of the attempt?
Myself, I just don't like those odds when you consider that a cat druid can do an unspeakable amount of damage in the time it takes you to do that taming.
