Cataclysm screenshot of the day
The latest Cataclysm screenshot from Blizzard is shown above, featuring a look at a Forsaken armada sailing over Cataclysm's shiny new water. The armada is accompanied by what is either the Orgrim's Hammer down from Northrend or a brand new addition to the Horde's aerial fleet.

So sweet. Reminds me of Warcraft 2 opening cinematic.

^ This.
Plus the new water looks fantastic.

Here's hoping for some naval combat. Missed it in WC3. Even if it's just using the existing vehicle system...

This screenshot is taken far off the coast of Gilneas, I guess the horde is invading or something. These ships are so far off the coast you can barely see them from shore. I don't think players will interact with these particular ships...but naval battles do sound nice. I imagine they would use the siege engine mechanics.

That's the first thing that came to mind. Glad I'm not the only one.

In case anyone hasn't seen the WC2 opening cinematic before to get the reference, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYsLatPRvQU&annotation_id=annotation_391067&feature=iv
It certainly has that look, probably what Blizzard was going for. Very bad ass picture.

I see weather effects! That's good news, love that stuff. Now heres for hoping it's not just in certain phased areas.

I don't see why the forsaken ships have ragged sails... surely that can't be practical?
busuan May 12th 2010 8:18PM
It's hard to skin, you know, humanoids...
Blacked Out [XBL: Biacked_Out] May 12th 2010 8:26PM
Oh, dear god why did you ask.
I love playing Horde, but I can't look at an Abomination for too long.
Jay May 12th 2010 8:52PM
...but we do try to get as much practice as we can.
Vaeku May 12th 2010 9:14PM
I guess you've never seen Pirates of the Caribbean.

Yeah I'd Like our Forsaken ships to be more polished. Just like how we are polishing up old towns with new forsaken designs. Would add a nice effect but they still look cool.

We'll use the same explanation we use for all the other things that do not make sense in a fantasy world... Magic!
BUt that aside, I love how detailed the boats are.

Busuan: Ironically, worgen are skinnable. I don't know if it's going to be the case in Cataclysm (someone should ask), but right now if you're a skinner you can go to Duskwood, kill some worgen, and take their skins.
Iirdan May 12th 2010 8:13PM
That... is amazing.
Valt May 12th 2010 8:14PM
Well that water is gonna lag my computer for ages. Hopefully theres way to turn it off (sadly too)
Wts wooden pc.
Drakkenfyre May 12th 2010 8:28PM
There is an option for low-quality water.
And, SPOILER.
I am sure that isn't Ogrim's Hammer. One of the areas found in the alpha is an area with a crashed airship. So there are multiple ones.
tehaxe May 13th 2010 3:23PM
thats the horde atacking Gilneas.
Drakkenfyre May 12th 2010 8:30PM
